“I Don’T Want To Be The Bad Kind Of Special”: The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Youth In Extracurricular Programs In Their Communities, Catherine A. Sargent Ph.D. Jan 2026

“I Don’T Want To Be The Bad Kind Of Special”: The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Youth In Extracurricular Programs In Their Communities, Catherine A. Sargent Ph.D.

Counseling and Psychology Dissertations

Autistic youth face barriers to participation and belonging in community settings. Historically, autism research has privileged researcher perspectives and deficit-based frameworks, often excluding the authentic voices of autistic individuals, particularly young people. This qualitative, phenomenological study sought to address that gap by exploring the lived experiences of autistic youth (ages 13–18) participating in extracurricular community programs in Massachusetts. Framed by critical disability theory, critical autism studies, ecological systems theory, and intersectionality, the study examined how autistic youth experience inclusion, connection, and self-expression within programs designed largely for neurotypical participants.

Seven autistic youths contributed to this research through participant-generated photographs and …

Emara, Brian T. Ford, Ameer Tabbaa, Divya Gouni, Jacquelyn J. Xu, Paul G. Mastrokostas, Jad Bou Monsef, Afshin E. Razi

Rothman Institute Papers

Context:  Low bone density is common among lumbar fusion patients and increases the risks of pseudarthrosis, hardware failure, and revision. Teriparatide improves bone mass and fusion in osteoporosis, but its benefit in osteopenia or normal bone remains uncertain.

Aims:  To evaluate the association between teriparatide exposure and (1) postoperative complications, (2) 90-day readmission, and (3) 2-year reoperation, stratified by bone health status (osteoporotic, osteopenic, and normal) in patients undergoing single-level lumbar fusion.

Setting and Design:  A retrospective cohort study using the PearlDiver database from 2010 to 2021 identified patients undergoing single-level lumbar fusion.

Subjects and Methods:  Patients on teriparatide were …

Knowledge, Attitude, And Practice Of Pharmacovigilance And Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting Among Healthcare Providers In The Middle East: A Systematic Review, Amina H. Saleem, Harith Kh. Al-Qazaz, Omer Q. Allela, Ramadan M. Elkalmi Jan 2026

Knowledge, Attitude, And Practice Of Pharmacovigilance And Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting Among Healthcare Providers In The Middle East: A Systematic Review, Amina H. Saleem, Harith Kh. Al-Qazaz, Omer Q. Allela, Ramadan M. Elkalmi

BioMed Visions Journal

The main purpose of pharmacovigilance (PV) is to ensure medication safety through detecting, assessing, and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Healthcare providers (HCPs) are the main contributors in PV systems all over the world. However, their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of PV and ADRs reporting vary among different medical professions and different countries.

Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices among the HCPs in the Middle East, toward PV and ADRs reporting.

Methods: A systematic review was performed. EBSCO, PubMed, and Semantic Scholar, FreeFullPDF and Google Scholar were searched for articles published from January 2014 to December 2024. …

Developing Pharmacy Education: Review Of Virtual Reality Technology In Improving Clinical Training And Learning Skill Development, Samer Imad Mohammed, Mohammed Khudhair Hasan, Mohammad Yawuz Jamal

BioMed Visions Journal

Incorporating modern technology into education is becoming imperative. Numerous pharmacy institutions are incorporating virtual reality (VR) technology training into their curricula to enhance educational experience. This review examines the current state, historical evolution, and application of VR programs in pharmacy education and training. The review also provides details about the main challenges and limitations associated with the use of this technology. The VR technology, including virtual laboratories and simulations, significantly improves clinical training and educational outcomes. The utilization of VR in clinical teaching encounters numerous barriers, including ethical concerns and technological constraints, as well as other restrictions in its execution …

Becoming Tricky In Measure For Measure: Isabella's Silences Revisited, Laura Kolb Jan 2026

Becoming Tricky In Measure For Measure: Isabella's Silences Revisited, Laura Kolb

Publications and Research

At Measure for Measure’s start, Isabella is presented as radically self-same, possessed of “no tongue but one.” By its end, she has helped orchestrate a bed trick and publicly lied about her sexual history. Measure for Measure presents trickery as a vehicle for truth-telling in the face of injustice that is both situationally specific—created by Angelo’s hypocrisy—and utterly mundane: a feature of being a woman in the world. Ultimately, the play suggests that trickery is woven into the fabric of femininity itself: into the repertoire of linguistic, embodied, and behavioral strategies women like Isabella develop in navigating masculinist systems, …

Anoikis resistance, or evasion of cell death triggered by matrix detachment, is a hallmark of cancer cell survival and metastasis. We showed that repeated exposure to suspension stress followed by recovery under attached conditions leads to development of anoikis resistance. The acquisition of anoikis resistance was associated with enhanced invasion, chemoresistance, and immune evasion in vitro and distant metastasis in vivo. This acquired anoikis resistance was not genetic, persisting for a finite duration without detachment stress, but was sensitive to CDK8/19 mediator kinase inhibition that could also reverse anoikis resistance. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that CDK8/19 kinase inhibition induces bidirectional transcriptional …

Conundrums In The Realization Of Healthcare And Education Through Waqf In Nigeria, Isa Olawale Solahudeen Jan 2026

Conundrums In The Realization Of Healthcare And Education Through Waqf In Nigeria, Isa Olawale Solahudeen

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 4 emphasize the importance of good health and quality education, respectively. However, based on available progress report released by Nigerian government, implementations of SDGs 3 (Good Health) and 4 (Quality Education) in the country were not promising. The unpleasant situation requires collaborative efforts of private sector. Meanwhile, waqf, an Islamic philanthropic instrument, has the potential to contribute significantly to the realization of these goals in Nigeria. Several conundrums hinder the effective utilization of waqf for healthcare and education. This paper identifies and examines some challenges ranging from lack of awareness, parochialism, religious …

Analytic Continuation Of Time In Brownian Motion. Stochastic Distributions Approach, Luis Daniel Abreu, Daniel Alpay, Tryphon T. Georgiou, Palle Jorgensen Jan 2026

Analytic Continuation Of Time In Brownian Motion. Stochastic Distributions Approach, Luis Daniel Abreu, Daniel Alpay, Tryphon T. Georgiou, Palle Jorgensen

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

With the use of Hida's white noise space theory and spaces of stochastic distributions, we present a detailed analytic continuation theory for classes of Gaussian processes, with focus here on Brownian motion. For the latter, we prove and make use of bounds in the complex plane for the Hermite functions; as well as a new approach to stochastic distributions. This in turn allows us to present (in Section 6) an explicit formula for an analytically continued white noise process, realized this way in the complex domain. With the use of the Wick product, we then apply our complex white noise …

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Limited studies have examined pandemic-related stressors among urban refugee youth in low and middle-income humanitarian countries (LMICs), such as Uganda. We explored the lived experience of COVID-19-related stressors among urban refugee youth in Kampala, Uganda. We analyzed qualitative data (text messages, WhatsApp chats, photos) collected in an interactive mobile health intervention with 346 refugee youth aged 16–24 in Kampala. Findings revealed stressors across socioecological levels: individual (e.g., financial-related distress), social (e.g., limited social interactions), community (e.g., food insecurity), and policy (e.g., unprecedented lockdowns). Findings can inform social work organization pandemic preparedness strategies for economic empowerment and social cohesion with youth.
