Hybrid Sensing For Near-Earth Space Domain Awareness: Leveraging Space-Based Assets For Augmenting Optical Ground Observations, Smriti Nandan Paul, Hang Woon Lee

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Because of recent advancements in space technologies, easier and more economical access to space, and an increase in commercial interests, the near-Earth space environment has witnessed an exploding number of objects being put into orbit. In particular, the low Earth orbit (LEO) region is at an increased risk of orbital collisions from large satellite constellation projects. Thus, monitoring LEO objects for space domain awareness and space traffic management has become increasingly imperative. In this paper, we use the concept of limited-CDF (cumulative distribution function) surface and mutual information for designing sensor tasking algorithms focusing on regular observation of known catalog …

Machine Learning In Peak Demand Forecasting: Foundations, Trends, And Insights, Shuang Dai, Fanlin Meng, Hongsheng Dai, Qian Wang, Xizhong Chen, Wenlei Bai, Peizhi Shi, Richard Allmendinger, Yuchen Zhang, Jian Liu

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Peak demand forecasting involves predicting the maximum electricity demand within a specific period, which plays a key role in maintaining the efficiency and stability of power systems. The rapid evolution of power systems, driven by advanced metering infrastructure, local energy applications such as electric vehicles, and the increasing adoption of intermittent renewable energy, has introduced greater randomness and reduced predictability in peak demand. Given the pressing need to address more diverse implementation requirements across different contexts, accurate and reliable peak demand forecasting has become increasingly important. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to provide a …

Efficient Function Orchestration For Large Language Models, Xiaoxia Liu, Peng Di, Cong Li, Jun Sun, Jingyi Wang Feb 2026

Efficient Function Orchestration For Large Language Models, Xiaoxia Liu, Peng Di, Cong Li, Jun Sun, Jingyi Wang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Function calling is a fundamental capability of today's large language models, but sequential function calling posed efficiency problems. Recent studies have proposed to request function calls with parallelism support in order to alleviate this issue. However, they either delegate the concurrent function calls to users for execution which are conversely executed sequentially, or overlook the relations among various function calls, rending limited efficiency. This paper introduces LLMOrch, an advanced framework for automated, parallel function calling in large language models. The key principle behind LLMOrch is to identify an available processor to execute a function call while preventing any single processor …

Constrained Pricing In Logit-Based Revenue Management, Qian Shao, Tien Mai, Shih-Fen Cheng Feb 2026

Constrained Pricing In Logit-Based Revenue Management, Qian Shao, Tien Mai, Shih-Fen Cheng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We consider a dynamic pricing problem in network revenue management in which customer behavior is predicted by a choice model, that is, the multinomial logit model. The problem, even in the static setting (i.e., customer demand remains unchanged over time), is highly nonconcave in prices. Existing studies mostly rely on the observation that the objective function is concave in terms of purchasing probabilities, implying that the static pricing problem with linear constraints on purchasing probabilities can be efficiently solved. However, this approach is limited in handling constraints on prices, noting that such constraints could be highly relevant in some real …

The evolution of decentralized identity (DID) and self-sovereign identity (SSI) frameworks, as endorsed by W3C Verifiable Credentials (VC) and eIDAS 2.0, underscores the need for secure, efficient, and privacy-preserving credential management. However, existing credential systems often depend on centralized issuers, lack efficient aggregation mechanisms, or fail to ensure unlinkability across authentication sessions. To address these challenges, we propose DISC (Decentralized Identity System with Self-Sovereign Credential Aggregation), a novel credential system that enables multi-authority credential issuance, user-controlled credential aggregation, and unlinkable authentication. DISC allows users to aggregate credentials from multiple issuers while maintaining constant-size authentication tokens and supporting batch verification for …

Prompt Tuning Without Labeled Samples For Zero-Shot Node Classification In Text-Attributed Graphs, Sethupathy Parameswaran, Suresh Sundaram, Yuan Fang Feb 2026

Prompt Tuning Without Labeled Samples For Zero-Shot Node Classification In Text-Attributed Graphs, Sethupathy Parameswaran, Suresh Sundaram, Yuan Fang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Node classification is a fundamental problem in information retrieval with many real-world applications, such as community detection in social networks, grouping articles published online and product categorization in e-commerce. Zero-shot node classification in text-attributed graphs (TAGs) presents a significant challenge, particularly due to the absence of labeled data. In this paper, we propose a novel Zero-shot Prompt Tuning (ZPT) framework to address this problem by leveraging a Universal Bimodal Conditional Generator (UBCG). Our approach begins with pre-training a graph-language model to capture both the graph structure and the associated textual descriptions of each node. Following this, a conditional generative model …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) parsing aims to extract key threat information from massive data, transform it into actionable intelligence, enhance threat detection and defense efficiency, including attack graph construction, intelligence fusion, and indicator extraction. Among these research topics, Attack Graph Construction (AGC) is essential for visualizing and understanding the potential attack paths of threat events from CTI reports. Existing approaches primarily construct the attack graphs purely from the textual data to reveal the logical threat relationships between entities within the attack behavioral sequence. However, they typically overlook the specific threat information inherent in visual modalities, which preserves key threat details …

Reflections On Linear B (Part 14) – Sign 76 (With Two Parallel Wavy Lines Pronounced /Ra/); Possible Derivation From The River Traveled Nightly By The Sun God Ra., Gerald Leonard Cohen

Arts, Languages and Philosophy Faculty Research & Creative Works

This article suggests that the two parallel wavy lines in Linear B sign 76 depict the river traveled nightly by the Egyptian sun god Ra. Also:

1. The Egyptian influence was likely exerted already on the Linear A and Cretan hieroglyphic antecedents of Linear B sign 76.

2. Variants of Linear B sign 76 contain a horizontal line across the two wavy vertical lines. The present article suggests the horizontal line might indicate one of the river’s twelve gates that Ra had to navigate through in his nightly journey.

3. But the single line for that one gate was likely …

Electric Dipole Forbidden, Quadrupole Allowed Transitions In The Pure Rotational Spectrum Of Cyclopropylchloromethyldifluorosilane, Alexander R. Davies, Abanob G. Hanna, Alma Lutas, Gamil A. Guirgis, S. A. Cooke, Garry S. Grubbs

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

In a recent publication, some electric dipole forbidden, quadrupole allowed ΔJ = +2 and x-type transitions were observed in the chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrum of two conformations of cyclopropylchloromethyldifluorosilane. Many of these transitions arise from a handful of mixed states and mechanisms are proposed through which these transitions become weakly allowed. Observations of electric dipole forbidden, quadrupole allowed transitions in rotational spectra are unusual for molecules which contain a chlorine nucleus owing to the small quadrupole moment of 35Cl and 37Cl; thus, we believe we are the first to observe x-type transitions arising from perturbations caused by …

Full Core Fuel Burnup Assessment Of The Itu Triga Mark Ii Research Reactor Using Gamma Spectroscopy, Z. Boduroglu, A. Kaya, O. Erbay, I. A. Reyhancan, M. S. Kiziltas, T. Akyurek

Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

This study investigates the burnup distribution of fuel elements in the ITU TRIGA Mark II research reactor core through gamma spectroscopy using137Cs as a burnup indicator. Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) techniques were employed to analyze fuel depletion, utilizing a specialized fuel investigation system installed above the reactor pool. The results indicate that the highest burnup values, exceeding 5 %, were concentrated in the inner core rings (B and C) due to intense neutron flux exposure, while the outer rings (D, E, F) exhibited lower burnup levels. To address this asymmetric distribution, a proposed fuel reshuffling strategy was analyzed, aiming …

Originalism, Official History, And Perspectives Versus Methodologies, Keith N. Hylton Feb 2026

Originalism, Official History, And Perspectives Versus Methodologies, Keith N. Hylton

Faculty Scholarship

This paper addresses a well-worn topic: originalism, the theory that judges should interpret the U.S. Constitution in a manner consistent with the intent of its framers. I am interested in the real-world effects of originalism. The primary effect advanced by originalists is the tendency of the approach to constrain the discretion of judges. However, I identify another effect of originalism: the creation of official histories, a practice that imposes a hidden tax on society. Another question I consider is whether originalism should be considered a methodology of analyzing the law or a perspective on the law; I argue that originalism …

Flare guns are pyrotechnic devices capable of causing serious injury due to high-temperature combustion and projectile discharge. Though intended for signaling in maritime or wilderness settings, improper use can result in trauma patterns distinct from those seen with typical burns or fireworks. Despite their severity, flare gun injuries remain underreported and poorly characterized. We conducted a scoping review of PubMed, Scopus, and Ovid to identify 12 case reports involving 13 patients, and reviewed US National Electronic Injury Surveillance System records from 2015 to 2024, identifying 18 flare gun-specific injuries for a combined total of 31 injuries. Demographic, injury mechanism, body …

The Case For Ai Authorship In Copyright Law, Cheng Lim Saw, Duncan Lim

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

Today, with generative AI, literary and artistic works can be created almost effortlessly. There is at present intense debate as to whether works generated by AI – broadly categorised as “AI-assisted” and “AI-generated” works – ought to attract copyright protection. AI-assisted works are those that involve some degree of human intervention. Where AI-generated works are concerned, however, such works are created autonomously by the AI itself with minimal (de minimis) input from an identifiable human being. Presently, it is generally accepted that AI-generated works do not attract copyright protection for want of a human author. This article examines whether it …

Reflections On Judicial Supervision Of Prosecutorial Powers, Benjamin Joshua Ong

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

The courts occasionally claim that the limits to the power to prosecute are different from the limits to other executive powers. They say that prosecutorial decisions are subject to judicial review on a reduced set of grounds compared to other executive decisions. I have previously argued that this approach is wrong, and aim to elaborate on the argument in this blog post. The focus will be on the laws of the UK and of Singapore, but it is hoped that the reflections here will be of some use in other common-law jurisdictions as well.

The serine/threonine kinase PAK1 serves as a mediator of cytoskeletal reorganization and cancer-related signaling downstream of the small GTPases. Due to the challenges in purifying PAK1 complexes, a 46-residue peptide from PAK1, is widely used to study PAK1-Cdc42 signaling. Traditionally, this purification involved multi-step chromatography of recombinant GST-PBD46 complexes, yielding approximately 1 mg per 1.5 L culture. In this study, a 30 min heat treatment step after thrombin cleavage was used to precipitate GST while leaving pure PBD46 in solution. This step eliminated the need for further affinity and size-exclusion chromatography steps. This improved protocol produces proteins with a 6.5-fold …

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a fatal condition that affects individuals with systemic sclerosis (SSc), a multiorgan fibrotic disease with limited treatment options. A central feature of PH is vascular remodeling, defined by the narrowing of the arteriole lumen due to cell proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition. Herein, we identify a central mechanism that can regulate multiple transcripts important for vascular remodeling. The highlight of our study is the demonstration that reduced pulmonary artery smooth muscle (PASMC) Nudt21, which codes for the RNA binding protein Cleavage and Polyadenylation Specificity Factor Subunit 5 (CPSF5) The, known to regulate alternative polyadenylation, results …

MECOM rearrangement in AML involves either inv(3)(q21;q26.2) or t(3;3)(q21;q26.2), where the dislocated GATA2 enhancer drives overexpression of the transcriptional regulator EVI1, causes concomitant GATA2 repression, and promotes AML progression, aggressive phenotype and therapy refractoriness. Treatment with BET protein inhibitor (BETi) induces in vitro and in vivo efficacy in MECOM-r AML cells. Utilizing an unbiased, high-throughput drug screen, focused on mechanistically-annotated drugs, we identified BRD4, PIK3CA, mTOR, BCL-xL and XIAP as dependencies in the MECOM-r AML cells. Monotherapy with mivebresib (BETi), dactolisib (PI3K/mTORi) and LCL161 (IAPi) dose-dependently induced greater lethality in PD MECOM-r versus non-MECOM-r AML cells. RNA-Seq and/or mass spectrometry …

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a prevalent disease arising from complex molecular mechanisms. Here we leverage T2D genetic associations to identify causal molecular mechanisms in an ancestry-aware and tissue-aware manner. Using two-sample Mendelian randomization corroborated by colocalization across four global ancestries, we analyse 20,307 gene and 1,630 protein expression levels using blood-derived cis-quantitative trait loci (QTLs). We detect causal effects of genetically predicted levels of 335 genes and 46 proteins on T2D risk, with 16.4% and 50% replication in independent cohorts, respectively. Using gene expression cis-QTLs derived from seven T2D-relevant tissues, we identify causal links between the expression of 676 …

A 7-year-old girl presented with a 10-day history of generalized purpura and petechiae. The eruption began with a solitary violaceous macule on the trunk and progressed within 1 week to multiple oval and round dark-red to violaceous purpuric macules, ecchymoses, and petechiae affecting the face, trunk, and extremities. Lesions were distributed parallel to skin cleavage lines with a characteristic “Christmas-tree” pattern on the back (Fig 1). No oropharyngeal lesions were noted on examination, and the patient denied sore throat or oral discomfort. She reported no pruritus, pain, fever, or systemic symptoms.
