This study aims to compare how Indonesian and English Native writers use hedges in their published research articles. The source of data was 40 research articles published in English written by Indonesian and English Native writers. The study investigated three sections of each research article (Introduction, Discussion, and Conclusion) where hedging devices are usually used. To get the hedge frequencies, the data were analysed using concordance program called Ant FileConverter (1.2.1) and AntConc (3.5.0). Flipped-classroom strategy, as the name suggests, flips the conventional teaching and learning process. In a flipped classroom, students learn the materials at home in an online platform (out-class) and then they learn more through discussion with their peers in the classroom (in-class). This study focuses on students' perceptions of the activities in a flipped academic writing classroom. The result shows that the activities were able to help students to learn and improve their academic writing. In addition, students also gave positive responses to the use of teaching media and peer feedback sessions.

The aim of this study is to describe students' willingness to communicate in English through virtual classroom during Covids-19 Pandemic. This study used descriptive qualitative research design, conducted at SMK Negeri 8 Malang. Data collection methods were obtained from students' responses on questionnaires and compiled with transcripts of the virtual interview result. The finding showed the students preferred to communicate in English written rather than English spoken.

This research is aimed at (1) finding out whether the EFL students taught using Google docs show better writing ability than those taught without using Google docs, (2) discovering if there is a significant difference in writing ability between the introverted students and extroverted students taught using Google docs. The results showed that the mean score of experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. When it comes to personality learning styles, there was no significant difference in the mean scores obtained by the extroverted students and introverted students.

This study is intended to investigate the communication using IRF sequence, issues occurred during teaching-process, and critical thinking in Basic Analysis of Poetry class. The result indicates that the faculty member used questions to build ELT students' critical thinking and ELT students believe that by reading a lot of poems will help them to develop their critical thinking. In conclusion IRF sequence with certain modification will help the faculty member to communicate with the students.

Language learning strategies (LLSs) play an essential role in the process of English language learning. This study is aimed at investigating language-learning strategies employed by successful Indonesian EFL high school students. This study is of significance to provide a model of strategies practiced by successful EFL students who manage to develop good command of English regardless certain limitations and challenges they face. The results of this study show the students actively employ a combination of affective and cognitive-social learning strategies to develop their English skills.

This qualitative survey study investigated the students’ perspectives on the emerging factors of anxiety and enjoyment during ESP class of non-English department students. This study involved 35 freshmen of non-English department study program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang who were joining ESP class. ReadyRead is an Android-based application which provides several features for scaffolding reading comprehension practice. It is the product of Design-Based Research. The present study examined high school students’ experience in using the application. An online questionnaire was employed to gather information on students’ opinions regarding the content, learning activities, and usability of the app. Results of the data analysis revealed the most favorable feature in the app perceived to be the most helpful for students in learning reading independently. Engaging in research can benefit students in several ways. However, higher learning institutions have been challenged to engage students in research experiences. The present study is conducted to discover what undergraduate students experience in the research process, and how they accomplish their tasks during the process. Narrative research is used for this study to understand present real-life experiences. The study revealed that students experience different conditions and apply various techniques in the research process. Besides, when they encountered the same or similar challenges, they were prone to accomplish their tasks with the same attempt.

This study explores illocutionary acts and politeness strategies employed by the academic staff and also the students' perceptions on the academic staff 's language and politeness strategies in EFL classroom interaction. Twelve different classes of six English academic staff in one term lasting 100 minutes each were observed and recorded and then transcribed. The results showed that four out of five types of illocutionary acts were employed; directive, representative, commisive, and expressive. Teaching practicum is one of the most fundamental and crucial stages in the teacher preparation program. The pre-service teacher readiness can be developed to become a qualified future teacher. This descriptive qualitative study is aimed to find the challenges and expectations of pre-service English teachers, mentor teachers, university supervisor, and the head of the teaching practice program. The findings indicated that pre-service teachers are challenged to improve their classroom management, strategies, and methods of teaching. The pre-service teachers, mentor teachers, and university supervisor are expected to gain benefits and successful school-university partnership.

This study is intended to investigate the underlying factors contributing to students’ speaking anxiety across learning styles. This article is a part of a larger study on EFL freshmen speaking anxiety across their learning styles which highlight the main factors that lay behind speaking anxiety. This study was carried out in one of Islamic universities in Malang. The data were collected through students’ questionnaires. The results reveal that fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety, and communication apprehension play the underlying factors of speaking anxiety across learning styles. This research aims to analyse a piece of argumentative writing produced by fifth semester of Darussunnah students in a term of cohesion issues of discourse analysis. The cohesive devices are viewed as a structure of analysis to investigate the grammatical and lexical cohesion in writing. Qualitative and quantitative (mixed method) were applied in analysing the data. The result showed that students have performed the cohesive devices. However, students need to improve the use of cohesive device, especially in grammatical cohesion to result higher level of cohesion.

Academic writing is a crucial skill for Indonesian university students, significantly influencing their EFL learning performance. This systematic literature review aims to examine the diverse learning strategies employed by these students to enhance their academic writing skills and reveal the predominant strategy employed by the students. Combining systematic literature review and thematic analysis, this study reveals five categories for academic writing strategies, those are metacognitive, cognitive, social, affective, and compensation strategies. This study highlights a predominant use of metacognitive strategies, comprising 36% of the strategies identified.
