Implementation Of A Nurse-Led Discharge Protocol To Impact Nurse Confidence And Optimize Transitional Care Management, Jessi-Ann Elrod Apr 2026

Implementation Of A Nurse-Led Discharge Protocol To Impact Nurse Confidence And Optimize Transitional Care Management, Jessi-Ann Elrod

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Heart failure (HF) remains a leading cause of hospitalization and readmission, with the transition from hospital to home representing a vulnerable period for patients. Variability in discharge education and follow-up scheduling contributes to poor self-management and adverse outcomes. This quality improvement (QI) project evaluated whether implementing a standardized nurse-led HF discharge protocol impacted nurses' confidence and the rate of 7–14-day transitional care management (TCM) follow-up appointments. Guided by Meleis’ Transitions Theory and Lewin’s Change Theory, a one–group pretest–posttest QI design was implemented on a cardiac step-down unit. Twelve discharge nurses participated. The intervention included a structured education session and the …

Quality Improvement Project Reducing Attrition Rates In Nursing Students: Evaluating The Enhanced Student Success Program, Jason Grigg

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

The high attrition rate in the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program created an opportunity to develop the enhanced Student Success Program (eSSP). This is a faculty-based quality improvement project designed to increase support for students at risk of withdrawal from the AASN program. The aim of eSSP is to reduce attrition rates, however, this project evaluated only short-term changes in faculty confidence. Using Lewin's Change Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior as a guide, this QI implemented a one-group pre-post experimental design to determine whether a short eSSP training program, combined with a 5-week implementation period, …

Quality Improvement Project: Gpt Prompts As Tools For Cultural Competence In Undergraduate Nursing Education, Elizabeth K. Hobbs Apr 2026

Quality Improvement Project: Gpt Prompts As Tools For Cultural Competence In Undergraduate Nursing Education, Elizabeth K. Hobbs

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

In rural nursing programs, student exposure to diverse cultures is limited, which can hinder development of cultural competence. Artificial intelligence (AI) simulation is an evidence-based strategy to improve cultural competence and clinical decision-making, a practice gap exists due to lack of structured, accessible tools. This quality improvement project evaluated whether Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT)–based structured prompts would increase culturally inclusive simulation activities and improve faculty perceptions of usefulness and ease of use at a rural community college. The guiding PICOT asked: Among nursing faculty, how does the use of GPT-based structured prompts, compared to an unstructured approach, impact perceived usefulness, …

Department of Nutrition Student Projects

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and ADHD-like symptoms, such as difficulty concentrating, mental fatigue, and problems with executive functioning, are increasingly recognized in adults. Although medication is commonly used to manage ADHD, there is growing interest in whether nutrition may also play a role in supporting brain function and attention. Several nutrients involved in brain health including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, magnesium, iron, and choline  have been suggested as potential contributors to cognitive performance and attention. However, the research examining the connection between diet and ADHD symptoms is still limited and sometimes shows mixed results.

The purpose of this project was …

Guided by Kotter’s Change Model and supported by the constructivist framework, the project aimed to enhance the effectiveness …

A Case For Mtor Pathway Screening In Early Epilepsy Diagnosis, David Seamons Apr 2026

A Case For Mtor Pathway Screening In Early Epilepsy Diagnosis, David Seamons

Student Works

Mutations in the mTOR pathway can give rise to epileptic seizures in patients. While a variety of antiepileptic drugs are available to treat epilepsy, a large proportion of patients will experience refractory seizures (Chen et al., 2018). Additionally, patients with mTOR-related epilepsy may experience reduced efficacy in traditional therapeutic options to treat seizures (French et al., 2016; Hadzsiev et al., 2023; Kato et al., 2022; Moloney et al., 2023). Mutations resulting in mTOR-related epilepsy are genetically inherited; however, some variability in family histories of epilepsy may be due to second-hit somatic mutations in focal areas of the brain (Dawson et …

Musical Affinities Between Ann Southam's Glass Houses And Canadian Fiddle Tunes With Performance Considerations For Glass Houses No. 5, Evangelia Nikolaidou

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Ann Southam stands as one of Canada’s foremost minimalist composers. Her fifteen-piece piano set Glass Houses, composed in 1981 and revised in 2009, reflects the joyful, dance-like energy of Canadian fiddle music that inspired it. While Glass Houses has frequently been discussed within the context of minimalist composition, less attention has been given to the ways in which the work resonates with Canadian fiddle traditions. This document draws on existing scholarship on Métis, French-Canadian, Newfoundland, Anglo-Canadian, and Scottish fiddle traditions to trace and clarify structural, rhythmic, and textural affinities between Canadian fiddle tunes and Glass Houses. Focusing on …

A Conductor’S Focus On The Preparation And Performance Of Timothy Takach’S Helios, Lester Ray Miller Apr 2026

A Conductor’S Focus On The Preparation And Performance Of Timothy Takach’S Helios, Lester Ray Miller

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Multimovement a cappella choral works have been composed and performed since the invention of printed music. When selecting such works, choral conductors often look to masterworks of the Renaissance or to the established works of modern composers. Timothy C. Takach (b. 1978) premiered the 12-movement a cappella choral cycle entitled Helios in 2019. Takach has become a celebrated composer whose works are performed by choirs across the country, yet little academic study has focused on his output. This document serves as a resource for the conductor who wishes to program Helios and as an aid in preparing for rehearsal. It …

Additionally, design should go a step further than healthy living and begin to prioritize creating a vibrant life and community integration for those living with …

Weakening Of Social Protection In Vietnam: Labour Legislation, Cicada Capital And Civil Society, Angie Ngọc Trần Apr 2026

Weakening Of Social Protection In Vietnam: Labour Legislation, Cicada Capital And Civil Society, Angie Ngọc Trần

SSGS Faculty Publications and Presentations

Using findings from a 2023 case study on Vietnamese workers in the wood-processing industry and critical content analysis of changes in the labour codes, social insurance laws and annual minimum wage increase policy, I demonstrate how the state’s rhetoric of ‘universal social coverage’ for workers has facilitated the recommodification phase, an authoritarian turn, in the ‘cycle of commodification’ ( Lin and Nguyen, 2021 ). I argue that the expansion of informal labour and unchecked prevalence of ‘cicada capitalism’ are enabled by weakening labour legislation, even weaker state enforcement of social protection laws, and suppression of civil society’s labour advocacy …

Speed safety cameras (SSCs) are a recognized countermeasure for targeting speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities. SSCs have been introduced in various cities and are steadily expanding in use both in the U.S. and internationally. The extensive literature review of domestic and international documents and research papers reveals that the U.S. has been comparatively slow to adopt SSCs, with some other countries implementing these systems more extensively and earlier. Many local agencies are eager to learn SSC best practices and implementation lessons within the U.S. context. In this research, key issues related to SSC implementation are explored through semi-structured interviews with …

Cognition Is Not Content: A Structural Account Of Processing Conditions, Griselda Poe Apr 2026

Cognition Is Not Content: A Structural Account Of Processing Conditions, Griselda Poe

Publications and Research

Human cognition has been described in terms of content. This description becomes insufficient once artificial systems make output observable apart from subject attribution, intention, and relational context. Under this contrast condition, what becomes visible is a layered structure in which output, reconstruction, evaluation, and termination do not necessarily coincide. The same input may register as complete under one processing condition while remaining unresolved under another. This separability means that content-based description does not merely omit an additional variable: it can mislocate a processing difference as a difference in meaning, personality, intention, ability, or attitude. This is not a proposal for …

Contests Of Masculinity: The Model Program, Notre Dame, And Collegiate Football, 1945-1972, Brian Michael Burns Apr 2026

Contests Of Masculinity: The Model Program, Notre Dame, And Collegiate Football, 1945-1972, Brian Michael Burns

Dissertations (1934 -)

This dissertation examines how collegiate football functioned as a contested site for defining masculinity and institutional identity in the United States between 1945 and 1972. Focusing on the leadership and interactions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Football Foundation (NFF), and the University of Notre Dame, the project argues that these institutions promoted competing models of masculinity that reflected broader tensions between moral authority, institutional control, athletic success, and social change in postwar America. This dissertation argues that postwar collegiate football did not express a single dominant masculine ideal but instead became a site of ongoing institutional …
