The Nordic countries are, together with the United States, forerunners in online record access (ORA), which has now become widespread. The importance of accessible and structured health data has also been highlighted by policy makers internationally. To ensure the full realization of ORA’s potential in the short and long term, there is a pressing need to study ORA from a cross-disciplinary, clinical, humanistic, and social sciences perspective that looks beyond strictly technical aspects. In this viewpoint paper, we explore the policy changes in the European Health Data Space (EHDS) proposal to advance ORA across the European Union, informed by our …

Mariscal-Ochoa V. State, 140 Nev. Adv. Op. 42 (Jun. 27, 2024), Alisha Meschkow
Nevada Supreme Court Summaries
During voir dire, a prospective juror stated unclearly and quietly that she thought she recognized the defendant, Mariscal-Ochoa, as her nephew’s sexual abuser. She was struck for cause over Mariscal-Ochoa’s objections to strike the entire venire, and the lower court gave a curative instruction reiterating the presumption of innocence and clarifying the jurors’ role in disregarding uncharged acts. Mariscal-Ochoa was convicted for sexually abusing his nine-year-old stepdaughter after testifying. The Court affirmed, holding that the trial court was in the best position to determine whether prejudice was incurable during voir dire.

Investigations Of Ferroic Materials Using A Synergistic Combination Of Electron Microscopy And Theory, Guodong Ren
Investigations Of Ferroic Materials Using A Synergistic Combination Of Electron Microscopy And Theory, Guodong Ren
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Ferroic materials are important components of modern day electronics. They can be described by an order parameter that gains a non-zero value upon undergoing a symmetry-lowering phase transition. Ferroic materials include ferroelectrics, ferromagnets, ferrotoroidal materials and ferroaxial materials. Their physical properties can be controlled using external stimuli such as temperature, strain or electric field. Their physical properties are highly sensitive to small changes in structure and composition. First-principles calculations based on density-functional theory (DFT) have proven instrumental in describing material properties right from the atomic scale. Concurrently, advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) has enabled the simultaneous imaging and spectroscopy …

Primary source literacy continues to be a priority for academic institutions. A growing subtopic is digital primary sources and their unique role in pedagogy. Digital primary sources have the capacity to represent more diverse voices, and their digital nature provides greater accessibility to new and existing user populations who cannot always come to the reading room. Digital primary sources can better meet a variety of needs through ADA-compliant transcription, 24/7 access, portability, and extensibility. With that vision in mind, these projects and materials present their own challenges to archivists, librarians, and other instructors seeking to expand these items’ curricular use. …

Khi Ăn, Nhai Kỹ (When Eating, Chew Carefully): Poetry Collection, Ngoc My T. Tran
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
In this poetry collection, I used my own experiences as a Vietnamese-American to present a realistic image of life in America as a minority. With the use of translanguaging and presentation of social norms in both Vietnamese and American cultures, my hope is to promote awareness of issues such as racism, colorism, body shaming, and language insecurity among Asian communities so that these problems can be healthily addressed. Khi ăn, nhai kỹ (When eating, chew carefully) is a Vietnamese proverb and is similar to the saying "think before you speak," by naming the collection this, it serves as an underlying …
