This dissertation explores how varied delivery strategies may influence college student affective learning in a mediated setting. I employed a hybrid-grounded approach to the exploration of student-participant interviews wherein student-participants engaged with one of two online media literacy learning modules. The results of this study illustrate that students at varying points of their epistemological development (Perry, 1968) may face different affective hurdles depending on how media literacy curriculum is presented. We may anticipate that: (1) students who are less epistemologically developed (those featuring dualistic attitudes) may struggle to receive content, especially in the case where a teacher-centric delivery-style is employed; …

Existential philosopher Karl Jaspers’s theory (1932/1970; 1935/1971b) of existential communication is understood to be his most important contribution to existentialism. Additionally, this theory has unique ties to the phenomena of communication, begging its use as a dialogic theory. However, Jaspers’s theory has been relatively untouched by academia. This thesis understands the theory of existential communication through an operationalization of its aspects and explicitly connecting them to communicative behaviors. These aspects of existential communication are (1) vulnerability, (2) open-mindedness, and (3) equality. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers to treat. The primary cause for the drug resistance is the dense extracellular matrix (ECM) that surrounds the tumor and restricts blood supply. Gemcitabine (GEM) and paclitaxel (PTX) are drugs that are clinically used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. GEM, however, is rapidly metabolized by cytidine deaminase (CDA) and eliminated from the body, and paclitaxel is a substrate for P- glycoprotein (P-gp) efflux receptors. Specifically, it delved into the development of microfluidic devices for biological applications such as bacterial cell counts, real-time observation of plant roots (here, specialized lectin-coated microbeads are used that mimic root characteristics), and soil microbe interactions. Virtual reality (VR) is an immersive innovative technology that can be used with occupational therapy students for bias training in preparation for fieldwork and clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to explore the use of VR as a complementary educational tool in bias and microaggressions (MA) training for entry-level occupational therapy students. We conducted a secondary analysis of data collected in an 8-week course on diversity, equity, inclusion, and professional skills with a total of 48 first-year entry-level occupational therapy students. พิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์เป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้ที่มีศักยภาพในการเป็นสถานที่บ่มเพาะความรู้และแรงบันดาลใจทางวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรมที่สนับสนุนยุทธศาสตร์การขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจของประเทศด้วยนวัตกรรมที่ช่วยเพิ่มมูลค่าสินค้า การดำเนินการภายใต้ยุทธศาสตร์นี้จำเป็นจะต้องให้ความสำคัญกับการพัฒนาแหล่งเรียนรู้ตลอดชีวิตทางวิทยาศาสตร์ให้มีลักษณะ รูปแบบและเนื้อหาของนิทรรศการให้สนองต่อการเรียนรู้และความต้องการของประชาชนผู้เข้าชม งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์ในการศึกษาระดับการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ของผู้เข้าชมชาวไทย พร้อมทั้งปัจจัยบริบทที่มีผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับสื่อการเรียนรู้ในนิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ จากผู้เข้าชมกลุ่มครอบครัวจำนวน 25 คู่ (50 คน) ภายใต้บริบทของพิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติ ทั้งนี้เพื่อกำหนดขอบเขตความรู้ความเข้าใจในปัจจุบันเกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมการเข้าชมที่บ่งชี้ระดับความลึกของการเรียนรู้ในเรื่องที่เกี่ยวกับนิทรรศการ ตลอดจนปัจจัยที่ผู้เข้าชมระบุว่าส่งผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าผู้เข้าชมกลุ่มผู้ปกครองและกลุ่มบุตรหลานร้อยละ 80 ขึ้นไปมีระดับการปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อนิทรรศการอยู่ที่ระดับเปลี่ยนผ่านไปสู่ปฏิสัมพันธ์ที่ลึกขึ้น (Transitioning behavior) ถึงระดับปฏิสัมพันธ์ขั้นลึก (Breakthrough behavior) นอกจากนี้ผลการศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการชี้ให้เห็นว่านิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ในปัจจุบันต้องเพิ่มเติมเรื่องสื่อสารวิทยาศาสตร์ให้ผู้เข้าชมเข้าใจการประยุกต์ใช้วิทยาศาสตร์และความเกี่ยวข้องของวิทยาศาสตร์กับชีวิตประจำวันของตน รวมไปถึงการรักษาสมดุลการมอบความรู้และความบันเทิงในการออกแบบนิทรรศการ

In Pakistan, the enormous 2010 floods inflicted unprecedented destruction to 0.5 million houses in South Punjab. This study was conducted in Muzaffargarh, a district of the Punjab province of Pakistan, one of the worst affected areas during the 2010 floods. As an adaptation and disaster risk reduction measure, an International NGO in collaboration with the Government of the Punjab province constructed 1274 houses for flood-affected communities. The houses were allocated through a lottery method. Initially, the allottees moved to the new settlements for the sake of possession. Combining the lens of the political economic theories of Racial Capitalism and the Precariat, and applying them to a historical analysis of the US immigration system and its modern implications in US States, we are better able to understand to manner in which the immigration regime works to provide a cheap, exploitable labor force for US industry elites. Studying Conspiracy Theory After The (Current) Rise Of Right-Wing Populism, Mark Fenster

The American historian Richard Hofstadter intended his still-influential essay on the “Paranoid Style in American Politics,” which initiated the modern study of conspiracy theories, as a response to the mid-1950s rise of right-wing populism in the US. Reflecting on the lessons we can learn from the insights and weaknesses of Hofstadter’s timely intervention into contemporary politics, as well as the author’s three decades studying conspiracy theories, the chapter asks how current academic work, which takes place within and responds to another rise in rightwing populism, should understand and intervene in the present and prepare for the future.

The United States government is experiencing a reputation crisis: after decades of declining public trust, many Americans have lost confidence in the government's capacity to perform its basic functions. While various explanations have been offered for this worrying trend, these existing accounts overlook a key factor: people are unfamiliar with the institutions that actually do most of the governing-administrative agencies-and they devalue what they cannot easily observe. The "submerged" nature of the administrative state is, we argue, a central reason for declining trust in government.

This thesis investigates the significance of musical experiences for understanding the evolution of leftist culture across the late 20^th century and contemporary era in Chile. An analysis of the musical experiences of leftist prisoners during the Pinochet era and contemporary protests finds that traditional politico-economic narratives are insufficient for explaining the cultural evolution of the Chilean left. Daily musical experiences across these eras suggests that there may be a long-term cultural habit within the Chilean left that utilizes music for expressing dissent and sustaining solidarity. Police communication sits at the unique intersection of risk communication, scientific and technical communication, and medical communication, as we see in forensic reports. In this dissertation, I examine the communicative underpinnings of forensic pathology and forensic engineering reports. I argue that there is not only an inherent link between the unpredictability of a written text and the reception of said text by both its intended and unintended audience, but also a link to the broader socio-cultural contexts.
