2020-Current year OA Pubs
INTRODUCTION: Surgical patients over 70 experience postoperative delirium (POD) complications in up to 50% of procedures. Sleep/circadian disruption has emerged as a potential risk factor for POD in epidemiological studies. This protocol presents a single-site, prospective observational study designed to examine the relationship between sleep/circadian regulation and POD and how this association could be moderated or mediated by Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology and genetic risk for AD.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Study staff members will screen for eligible patients (age ≥70) seeking joint replacement or spinal surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). At the inclusion visit, patients will be asked a …

Techniques are presented herein that enhance user data privacy in an Internet of things (IoT) environment. Aspects of the techniques introduce a third actor into such an environment – apart from a user and an IoT device – whose sole purpose is to empower a user to protect their own data. Such a data Custodian or Sanitizer may collect inputs from a user through a software as a service (SaaS) solution and then leverage the capabilities of the extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) to apply those inputs to an IoT device.

Getting Unstuck: Moving Forward In Completing Your Dissertation Or Thesis, Robyn Hess
Bear GRADS
A thesis or dissertation is likely to be one of the most comprehensive writing projects that you will ever attempt. Given the complexity of this task, it is easy for students to become stuck in their process. It can happen at any time and is especially problematic when there are looming deadlines. This presentation will highlight some of the common sticking points and offer suggestions for how to keep moving forward in your progress.
Breast Cancer Classification With Machine Learning, Rahanuma Tarannum
Breast Cancer Classification With Machine Learning, Rahanuma Tarannum
ATU Scholars Symposium
Breast cancer is one of the foremost causes of death amongst women worldwide. Breast tumours are characteristically classified as either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Benign tumours do not spread external side of the breast and are not fatal, whereas malignant tumours can metastasize and be incurable if untreated. Rapidly and accurate diagnosis of malignant tumours is significant for efficient treatment and advanced outcomes. In 2022, breast cancer claimed 670 000 lives worldwide. Women without any particular risk factors other than age and sex account for half of all cases of breast cancer. In 157 out of 185 nations, breast …

Adapt Laser Shaping, Quinlin Reynolds
ATU Scholars Symposium
Investigation into producing a machine learning algorithm that allows a He-Ne laser to classify whether a produced beam shape is uniformly gaussian or not, in order to adaptively move the laser to consistently target the encoded interference pattern area. This will then result in continuous uniform beam shapes of the desired output.

Documenting Wonderland: Conducting A Collection Survey To Inform Collecting Policies, Sara Pettinger, Anne L. Foster
Journal of Western Archives
Collection surveys and collecting policies have become standard for effective archival collection management. But in recent years, surveys have most often been used to establish processing and preservation priorities and collecting policies are often considered static documents that, once established, change little as the collections grow. The Yellowstone National Park Archives, with a mandate to update its collecting policy and limited space and resources, developed a project to survey its collections in order to inform an updated policy. With a more granular focus on analyzing collections than previous surveys have undertaken, this case study focused on defining success and fulfillment …
Use Of Deep Learning In Content-Based Image Retrieval (Cbir), Angelina Das
Use Of Deep Learning In Content-Based Image Retrieval (Cbir), Angelina Das
ATU Scholars Symposium
In the world of computer vision and data retrieval, a crucial task is finding images within a database based on their visual content. This is known as content-based image retrieval (CBIR). As the number of digital images explodes across fields like online shopping, healthcare, and social media, the need for powerful and precise CBIR systems becomes ever more critical. Early CBIR methods depended on features crafted by hand, like color distributions, texture descriptions, and shape characteristics. However, these techniques often have difficulty capturing the true meaning of an image and might not handle very large datasets effectively. With the rise …
