Florida Law Review
The digital age has brought the imbalance of power between prominent firms and individual consumers to the forefront. Despite their proclamations of upholding democratic values and prioritizing user well-being, online platforms routinely deploy various mechanisms to disadvantage users and exploit them. This Article takes on one of the thorniest legal challenges that dominant online platforms pose: the often manipulative ways in which they unjustly benefit from users’ attention, time, and troves of personal data, which are intangible assets that the law struggles to quantify and fails to adequately protect.
Leveraging the current legal landscape, online platforms tie their users into …

Appealing Temporary Restraining Orders, Tyler B. Lindley, Morgan Bronson, Wesley White
Florida Law Review
Temporary restraining orders (TROs) are a powerful injunctive tool for district courts to maintain control over a case by directly controlling the parties’ out-of-court conduct, especially when both the facts on the ground and the litigation are moving at breakneck speed. In response to the wave of TROs against the Trump Administration, appellate courts have struggled with the power of these orders and the long-standing rule that parties cannot appeal from TROs. But that rule is not found anywhere in the relevant statute, which authorizes interlocutory appeals from any order concerning an injunction. To the contrary, an examination of the …

The Correlation Between Perceptual Abilities And The Acquisition Of Non-Native Consonant Clusters, Hope Emma Nielson
The Correlation Between Perceptual Abilities And The Acquisition Of Non-Native Consonant Clusters, Hope Emma Nielson
Theses and Dissertations
A common approach in the study of speech motor learning is to have speakers learn to produce clusters of consonants that do not occur in their native language. This study investigated the relationship between auditory or speech perceptual abilities and the initial acquisition of non-native stop-stop consonant clusters. Sixty young adult participants (56 female, four male) were administered a gap detection test and a speech-in-noise test to assess their innate perceptual skills. The participants then performed a nonsense-word repetition task featuring non-native consonant clusters in the initial position. The participants' spoken productions of the nonwords were recorded and analyzed acoustically …

Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences Faculty Conferences
Traditional grading can lead to anxiety, discourage productive struggle, and fail to reflect student learning. Alternative grading methods, such as ungrading, specifications grading, contract grading, and standards-based grading, offer more transparent, equitable, and growth-oriented ways to assess students. This pre-conference workshop will serve as a community of practice to explore alternative assessment and to provide a chance to redesign a course you plan to teach in the 2026-27 academic year. Whether you have never heard of grading for growth or have been iterating on alternative assessments for years, come for resources and support to try it yourself.

Ai-Infused Writing-Intensive Problems For Introduction To Programming In C++, Esma Yildirim
Open Educational Resources
This exercise book uses Writing-Intensive (WI) pedagogy in an introductory programming course setting, because I believe WI can help students engage in deeper analysis of programming problems while strengthening their critical and analytical thinking skills. In computer science, a single problem can often be solved using multiple algorithms, designs, and implementation strategies. Exploratory thinking and reflective writing can improve students’ ability not only to read and write computer programs, but also to evaluate the efficiency, readability, and maintainability of algorithms and code. Students must learn not only how to design solutions, but also how to compare alternatives and determine the …

Chemistry and Biochemistry
Surface functionalization of colloidal gold nanoparticles with capping ligands is critical for controlling their dispersive stability and for introducing application-specific moieties. Peptoids (N-substituted glycine oligomers) are useful candidates for study as capping ligands owing to their straightforward preparation and their biocompatibility. In this work, we have prepared a library of five-residue peptoids and evaluated them as capping ligands for 10 nm gold nanospheres. Our findings revealed important sequence features of peptoids that stabilize nanosphere colloidal dispersions in a range of aqueous conditions that vary in ionic strength and pH. We have also characterized the sizes and surface charges of peptoid-capped …

Acidic Extracellular Ph-Induced Pth Secretion In Male Mouse Parathyroids Is Ogr1-Dependent, Yanmei Yang, Mengcun Chen, Mingshu Cui, Elisabeth Lashbrooks, Bin Wang
Center for Translational Medicine Faculty Papers
The role of extracellular acidity in regulating PTH secretion in cultured mouse parathyroid glands (PTGs) has not been studied to date, largely because of the technical difficulty of isolating mouse PTGs. We hypothesized that acidic extracellular pH directly stimulates PTH secretion through activation of a proton-sensing receptor, specifically ovarian cancer G protein-coupled receptor 1 (OGR1, also known as GPR68). To test this, we developed a method to reliably identify and isolate PTGs from male mice by administering 5-aminolevulinic acid, which induced selective fluorescence in these glands. Using this model, we demonstrate that acidic extracellular pH significantly stimulates PTH secretion in …

In this nonpayment proceeding, the court grants respondent's motion to amend the answer and for discovery, but limits discovery to documents going back to 2011 (not 1988 as requested), on the illegal deregulation issue. Despite the court's acknowledgment of numerous strong facts establishing a colorable claim of fraud, it appears that Judge Cohen granted discovery only on the illegal deregulation issue and not on the rent overcharge claim.

Predicting Future Stock Closing Prices: A Five-Stage Approach Utilizing Historical Data And Enhanced Deep Learning Techniques With Multi-Strategies Improved Beluga Whale Optimization, D. Murahari Reddy, R. Balamanigandan
Baghdad Science Journal
Predicting stock market movements is a complex and challenging task due to many factors that can influence stock prices. While there are various approaches and techniques that researchers and analysts have explored, it's crucial to note that accurately forecasting stock prices consistently is complicated. Financial data can be noisy and subject to errors. Minor inaccuracies in data can lead to inaccurate predictions. In this research, we propose a new deep learning technique with an optimization algorithm to overcome the limitations in stock market prediction. This research has five stages to predict closing prices using historical data. The input data is …
Wake-On-Anomaly Federated Architecture For Privacy-Preserving Poultry Health Early Warning, Mahmoud Aziz Louati
Wake-On-Anomaly Federated Architecture For Privacy-Preserving Poultry Health Early Warning, Mahmoud Aziz Louati
Masters Theses
Highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks, respiratory disease, heat stress, and silent equipment failures share one operational reality: they are detected too late because today’s poultry-health workflow is reactive, manual, and dependent on producers volunteering commercially sensitive data. This thesis presents a wake-on-anomaly federated architecture that addresses both the detection-latency problem and the privacy–adoption deadlock that has so far prevented cross-farm collaboration. The architecture is organized in two tiers. Tier 1 is a lightweight LSTM autoencoder that continuously screens four routine telemetry channels (water, feed, house temperature, activity proxy) and emits a per-window reconstruction-error score. A debounced k-of-m trigger with cooldown …

Reinforcement Threshold Controlled Modernn Tuned With J* And QMax Bilingual Spatiotemporal Attention Fusion For Inclusive Real-Time Sign Language Interpretation, Harapriya Kar, P Viswanathan
Baghdad Science Journal
Deaf communities still struggle with communication, partly due to the inefficiency of current sign language recognition systems, their poor generalization, and their inability to manage regional and linguistictions. This work suggests a novel architecture that blends attention-based spatiotemporal processing (RTC-ModeRNN-BSF) with a reinforcement threshold–controlled ModeRNN to solve these problems. The model adapts its computation based on the complexity of the input gesture, using between 2 and 8 attention slots, while gradually reducing exploration during training ($\varepsilon$: 0.9→ 0.1). Dual-stream memory pathways are optimized using joint log-likelihood maximization (J-Star) and computational pruning (Q-Max) to capture both immediate sequential patterns (Ct …
