Factors Influencing Household Adoption Of Rooftop Solar Power In The Philippines: An Empirical Analysis Using The Contingent Valuation Method, Rosalina Palanca-Tan
Factors Influencing Household Adoption Of Rooftop Solar Power In The Philippines: An Empirical Analysis Using The Contingent Valuation Method, Rosalina Palanca-Tan
Economics Department Faculty Publications
The Philippines possesses significant solar energy potential, yet the adoption of rooftop solar power (RTSP) among households remains limited despite its benefits in reducing electricity costs and contributing to the clean energy transition. This study investigates the determinants influencing households’ willingness to adopt RTSP in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, utilizing the contingent valuation method. Survey results indicate that economic factors, particularly the potential for electricity bill reduction, along with environmental considerations, are positively associated with adoption intentions. While a substantial portion of households (82%) expressed some level of intention to adopt RTSP, the figure drops to 20% when focusing …

Ecological Risk Assessment For The Western Australian Sea Cucumber Resource, Kimberley A. Smith, Cameron Desfosses, Dave Murphy, Amie Steele, Lachlan W. Strain
Fisheries Research Reports
In April 2024, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (Department) convened an ecological risk assessment (ERA) of the fisheries that access the Western Australian Sea Cucumber Resource, which comprises a range of species from the class Holothuroidea. This document contains background information used to support the ERA risk scoring process, along with the scores from the workshop and a summary of the workshop discussions that were relevant to the scoring. This includes an overview of commercial fisheries that access the Resource, focusing primarily on the WA Sea Cucumber Fishery, and one fishing authorisation issued under the Aboriginal Community …
Disentangling The Eighth And Fourteenth Amendments: Pretrial Detainees And Due Process Rights After Kingsley V. Hendrickson, David Baloche
Disentangling The Eighth And Fourteenth Amendments: Pretrial Detainees And Due Process Rights After Kingsley V. Hendrickson, David Baloche
Hofstra Law Review
In Kingsley v. Hendrickson, the Supreme Court repudiated the lower courts’ decades-long practice of grafting the Eighth Amendment standard onto Fourteenth Amendment claims brought by pretrial detainees. Since Kingsley, lower courts have warred over whether the holding applies to non–excessive‑force claims like inadequate‑medical‑care, conditions‑of‑confinement, and failure‑to‑protect. Five circuits (the Second, Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth) have held that Kingsley extends beyond excessive force‑claims. Four circuits (the Fifth, Eighth, Tenth, and Eleventh) have held that Kingsley does not extend beyond excessive‑force claims. The Supreme Court has repeatedly declined to grant certiorari to clarify the scope of Kingsley. While confusion about the …
Modern Characteristics Of Domestic Extremists: A Study Of Extremists In The United States, Sherry H. Siller
Modern Characteristics Of Domestic Extremists: A Study Of Extremists In The United States, Sherry H. Siller
Doctoral Works at the University of New Haven
The goal of this paper was to perform exploratory research on multiple aspects of individuals radicalized in the United States. Previous research on this topic had often analyzed individuals using all or most of the accumulated data on this group over the entire period of “modern-day terrorism,” while ignoring shifting changes in culture, norms, and economics in the United States. This study aims to close a part of that research gap by empirically analyzing a data sample of individuals radicalized in the United States who either were caught in the attempt or after the carrying out of a terrorist attack …

Biogeography Of Mentzelia Thompsonii And Related Species (Loasaceae)., Joshua M. Brokaw, Gracie M. Granados, Logan A. Browning, Katie E. Howe, Rebecca L. Hunter, Larry Hufford
Biology
Mentzelia thompsonii is the only species in Mentzelia section Trachyphytum endemic to the Colorado Plateau and one of only a few that do not occur in California. In order to investigate the geographic origins, ecological function, and evolutionary potential of M. thompsonii and related species, we combine evidence from DNA, soil chemistry, and environmental niche modeling in a phylogenetic context. Based on ndhF–rpl32 cpDNA sequences from 185 specimens of M. thompsonii and 42 specimens representing the remaining 21 species in section Trachyphytum, we found that M. thompsonii is monophyletic and phylogenetically isolated from other species in Trachyphytum, suggesting …

Development And Validation Of A Chemistry Laboratory Safety Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices, And Mindset Questionnaire, Claudine Garcia, Genejane Adarlo, Anna Carissa San Esteban, Armando M. Guidote
Health Sciences Faculty Publications
Accidents in chemistry laboratories can be prevented by fostering a safety culture - the institution’s knowledge, attitudes, practices (KAP), and mindset regarding laboratory safety. To effectively promote a safety culture, robust tools are essential for evaluating safety KAP and mindset. Hence, this study developed and validated a questionnaire that can rapidly measure laboratory safety KAP and mindset to guide targeted interventions aimed at enhancing the safety culture in chemistry laboratories. The study was drawn from existing validated questionnaires in constructing a tool comprising 40 items that can measure the safety KAP and mindset in chemistry laboratories. Using a cross-sectional design, …

A Cochlear Progenitor Pool Influences Patterning Of The Mammalian Sensory Epithelium Via Mybl2., Caryl A Young, Emily Burt, Vidhya Munnamalai
Faculty Research 2024
During embryonic development, Wnt signaling influences both proliferation and sensory formation in the cochlea. How this dual nature of Wnt signaling is coordinated is unknown. In this study, we define a novel role for a Wnt-regulated gene, Mybl2, which was already known to be important for proliferation, in determining the size and patterning of the sensory epithelium in the murine cochlea. Using a quantitative spatial analysis approach and analyzing Mybl2 loss-of-function, we show that Mybl2 promoted proliferation in the inner sulcus domain but limited the size of the sensory domain by influencing their adjoining boundary position via Jag1 regulation during …

Navigating Life: Neuroscience And Inclusive Design In Wayfinding Systems, Stephanie Jost, Piper Hutson, James Hutson
Navigating Life: Neuroscience And Inclusive Design In Wayfinding Systems, Stephanie Jost, Piper Hutson, James Hutson
Faculty Scholarship
Wayfinding, as conceptualized by Lynch, has transformed from traditional navigation methods reliant on visual cues and landmarks to modern systems that integrate digital technologies and neuroscience. This study addresses the need for accessible and consistent wayfinding systems that accommodate diverse user abilities, particularly in complex environments such as public transit, hospitals, and large institutions. Current systems often lack coordination, clear signage, and comprehensive coverage, leading to navigation challenges. Through a multi-method approach, including literature review and case study analysis, this research evaluates best practices for inclusive wayfinding. Key findings emphasize the importance of consistent visual design, strategic sign placement, and …

NSRA’s Next Generation Leadership Program (NextGen) is designed to help independently owned shoe stores transition from one generation to the next. The NextGen Program held prior to the Atlanta Shoe Market in January 2024, focused on preparing the NextGens for important conversations with their NowGens about the succession process. Succession can refer to many transitions including ownership and/or management. Oftentimes in family businesses, those transitions should – but may not – go hand in hand, causing significant issues for everyone involved and risking the successful transition that family firms dream about. The workshop addressed strategies to minimize this frequent disconnect.
Is Acts Really “The Most Overtly Missionary Book”?, Ekaputra Tupamahu
Is Acts Really “The Most Overtly Missionary Book”?, Ekaputra Tupamahu
Faculty Publications - Portland Seminary
The aim of this article is twofold: first, to challenge the white reading of the book of Acts, and second, to offer an alternative reading by placing the story of the marginalized people, the colonized people, at the center. The first part of this article interrogates how white pentecostal scholars read the book of Acts as a missionary book and identify themselves with the disciples in the book of Acts. After presenting the problems with this reading, I propose an alternative interpretation of the movement in Acts as a migration movement instead of a missionary movement. Reading it from a …
