A Resource-Efficient Framework For Testing Service Expansion Automation, N/A
A Resource-Efficient Framework For Testing Service Expansion Automation, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure describes a resource-efficient framework for testing service expansion automation within cloud computing environments. By leveraging adjacent operational units or cells, the framework allows for the independent cycling of multiple services utilizing a single testing cell. A central load balancer manages traffic by routing requests to proximate services and gracefully falling back to a live secondary cell if a dependent service in the testing cell is unavailable. This framework reduces infrastructure overhead and reduces the overall resource footprint for testing procedures.

Micro-Perforated Actuator Housing For Broadband Acoustic Absorption, Vander Fang, Jeff Wang
Micro-Perforated Actuator Housing For Broadband Acoustic Absorption, Vander Fang, Jeff Wang
Defensive Publications Series
An actuator housing can be configured to function as a passive, broadband acoustic absorber by incorporating a micro-perforated panel with an array of sub-millimeter pores. The geometric parameters of the pores, such as diameter, panel thickness, and porosity, can be tuned to adjust acoustic impedance for certain noise frequencies. Such a configuration can allow the housing to dissipate acoustic energy as heat through viscous friction within the pores, which may mitigate the generation and radiation of parasitic audible noise from the actuator.

The Politics Of Recognition: Charismatic Authority And The Restoration Of Male Purpose, Gabriel A. Brigham
The Politics Of Recognition: Charismatic Authority And The Restoration Of Male Purpose, Gabriel A. Brigham
Sociology Undergraduate Senior Theses
This thesis examines how three prominent charismatic figures, Donald Trump, Andrew Tate, and Jordan Peterson, convert experiences of epistemic dislocation into ideological belonging among a specific subset of men experiencing status anxiety, social isolation, and institutional distrust. Drawing on social identity theory, epistemic injustice theory, affect control theory, and Weberian charismatic authority, the study develops a theoretical model called the Epistemic Pathway to Digital Belonging, which describes radicalization-adjacent persuasion as a sequential process of epistemic and emotional repair. Through this framework, perceived identity threat produces interpretive instability and negative self-sentiments, instability produces recoil from mainstream discursive spaces, recoil produces an …

Developing Custom High Resolution 3d Printers For Microfluidic Device Fabrication, Dallin Scott Miner
Theses and Dissertations
The advancement of microfluidics in biomedical diagnostics and lab-on-a-chip systems is increasingly dependent on the ability to fabricate complex, three-dimensional architectures with high-resolution negative features. While Digital Light Processing Stereolithography (DLP-SLA) has emerged as a leading fabrication method, it remains constrained by a fundamental trade-off between feature resolution and build volume, as well as challenges regarding fabrication consistency and design accessibility. This dissertation presents an integrated ecosystem of hardware, materials, and software designed to overcome these barriers and enable scalable, high-resolution microfluidic fabrication. We first introduce a novel multi-resolution 3D printing technique utilizing a dual-optical engine architecture, comprising a Very …

Effects Of A Complexity-Based Approach For Treatment Of Be Verbs In Children With Developmental Language Disorder: A Single-Case Design, Megan Shawnee Rowe
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to examine whether a complexity-based treatment approach improves the production of BE verb structures in a child with developmental language disorder (DLD). One school-age child with morphosyntactic deficits participated in a single-case AB experimental design. Treatment targeted a complex structure (auxiliary BE questions), and performance was measured using experimental probes, a narrative language sample, and the Test of Early Grammatical Impairment (TEGI). Results indicate a functional relationship between treatment and increased accuracy of the treated structure, with a medium effect size (τ = .695, p = .019). In addition, the participant demonstrated generalization to …

Stereoselective hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) at chiral centers is an increasingly important strategy for preparing labeled molecules, yet its practical implementation depends on reliable control of nicotinamide cofactor regeneration. Here we introduce a redox-programmable electroenzymatic platform for stereoselective HIE based on electrode-controlled manipulation of the nicotinamide cofactor state. A wired ferredoxin–NADP+ reductase (FNR) electrode enables reversible electrochemical interconversion of NADP+ and its deuterated reduced form (NADPD) directly from D2O. Coupling this cofactor cycling with enantioselective alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) establishes a reversible alcohol–ketone redox manifold that drives efficient and stereoselective H-D exchange at chiral alcohols. Stereochemical outcomes are programmed …

Hot Jupiter Atmospheres Through Time, Annabelle E. Niblett
Physics and Astronomy Undergraduate Senior Theses
Transmission spectroscopy of hot Jupiters enables mass and atmospheric composition measurements, providing insight into population dynamics and evolution when other methods are hindered by stellar activity. To effectively plan observations and interpret transmission spectra, we must have a robust understanding of how atmospheres evolve over time. To that end, we present a suite of hot Jupiter transmission spectra models with ages ranging from 3 Myr to 11 Gyr. We incorporate the cooling and contraction of the planet, which impacts the atmospheric profile, and the evolution of the stellar UV spectrum, which moderates photodissociation and photoionization. Using PICASO, VULCAN, and FastChem …

Abstract – Bactrocera dorsalis is a major horticultural pest. Biocontrol using parasitoids, such as Fopius arisanus, is a sustainable tool for managing this pest. However, the mechanisms enabling the successful parasitism of B. dorsalis are poorly understood. Using transcriptomic profiling, cellular bioassays, and targeted metabolite analyses, we investigated how F. arisanus modulates the immunity and metabolic activity of B. dorsalis to achieve a high parasitism rate. Our results revealed a weak and late encapsulation response of B. dorsalis towards F. arisanus. Additionally, parasitism reduced the number of circulating haemocytes by 35%, lowered constitutive granulocyte counts and inhibited phenoloxidase activity in …

Examining The Effects Of A Complexity-Based Treatment For One Child With Down Syndrome Using Single-Case Design, Markelle Luddington
Theses and Dissertations
Common language difficulties observed in English-speaking children with Down syndrome (DS) and developmental language disorder (DLD) include challenges with marking tense and agreement on verbs, particularly with BE verbs. In addition, difficulties with syntactic movement may further exacerbate these challenges, often resulting in increased omission errors. A complexity-based approach to treatment target selection has been suggested as one method to address these needs. Therefore, this single-case design study examined the effects of a complexity-based treatment approach for one participant with Down syndrome. Specifically, this study investigated the effects of targeting a more complex treated structure, auxiliary BE questions, and the …

Background/Objectives: In the first months of their life, infants rely on maternal antibodies for immune protection. Breastmilk is a major source of these defenses, supplying secretory IgA, IgG, and IgM that help guard mucosal surfaces against pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. Most studies on breastmilk immunity in the context of COVID-19 have emphasized circulating monomeric IgA, rather than the multimeric secretory IgA (sIgA) that is active at mucosal barriers. This study assessed in-depth the contribution of breastmilk antibody subtypes to SARS-CoV-2 neutralization capacity and how these profiles differ following maternal COVID-19 infection versus vaccination during pregnancy or postpartum.

A Unified Behavioral Core: How Cbt And Act Often Do The Same Thing, Davis M. Paxton
A Unified Behavioral Core: How Cbt And Act Often Do The Same Thing, Davis M. Paxton
Student Works
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) have emerged from the shared heritage of behavioral therapy and learning theory. ACT and CBT are evidenced to be effective and complementary by shared clinical outcomes across various patient demographics. Both therapies share a therapeutic framework or a unified behavioral core, despite formal differences. This behavioral core utilizes functionally equivalent awareness-based and behavior-change processes to accomplish the shared goals of symptom reduction and patient well-being. Psychological flexibility as defined by Hayes can be understood as both an outcome and potentially a mechanism of change for both therapies. Techniques from CBT …

Ai In Precision Medicine: Redefining Blindness Treatment Via Retinal Stem Cell Differentiation, Calissa Leong, Tiffany Nguyen
Interdisciplinary Design Senior Theses
Age Macular Degeneration (AMD) is currently the leading cause of blindness, driven by the degradation of Retinal Pigment Epithelial (RPE) cells. Stem-cell based therapies, particularly those involving induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), typically consists of differentiating stem cells into RPE cells in vitro and transplanting them into the subretinal space. Our goal is to improve the accuracy of differentiation into RPE cells to better promote retinal regeneration. Traditional methods to alleviate symptoms of AMD is through therapeutic medications to slow disease progression, though stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising alternative. However, despite its potential, stem cell therapy presents …

Emotion Work In Emergency Communication Workers: A Mixed-Methods Analysis On Well-Being, Katherine Luann Sweeney
Emotion Work In Emergency Communication Workers: A Mixed-Methods Analysis On Well-Being, Katherine Luann Sweeney
ETDs from 2020-2029
Emergency communication workers play a vital role in public safety and healthcare, but they are frequently an overlooked population when studying well-being. With a survey sample size of N=336, and an interview sample size of N=24, this dissertation utilizes a mixed-methods approach to explore what kind of factors influence dispatcher well-being. The mixed-methods findings lead to three important outcomes. First, there are detrimental consequences of shift work on dispatchers’ overall health. Second, dispatchers report high levels of emotional exhaustion, stress, and trauma exposure. The qualitative findings suggest that the rewards associated with helping people outweigh the mental health consequences. Lastly, …

Proteomic Evidence Indicates Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction Enhances Recovery Of Membrane-Associated Proteins In Hericium Erinaceus, Tanvir Ahmed, Angéla Juhász, Utpal Bose, Netsanet Shiferaw Terefe, Michelle L. Colgrave
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Membrane-associated fungal proteins mediate essential functions and contain bioactive proteins with therapeutic potential but are underrepresented in aqueous extracts due to hydrophobicity and lipid associations. Ultrasound-assisted aqueous extraction was applied to Lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus), and the proteins were fractionated by molecular weight (≥30 kDa, 10–30 kDa, 3–10 kDa). Proteomic profiling using data-dependent (DDA) and data-independent (DIA) mass spectrometry identified 1500 and 1702 proteins, respectively (1% global FDR). Ultrasonication induced surface irregularity and a less compact, heterogeneous microstructure. Topology predictions showed higher proportions of transmembrane and secretory proteins in ultrasonicated fractions. Extraction preserved protein integrity (82% molecular-weight retention, 97% tryptic …

Measures Of Linguistic Complexity And Vocabulary Diversity As Indicators Of Oral Language Production Growth Of 4th Grade Spanish-Speaking Els, Carla T. Zayas-Santiago
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As fourth-grade students transition from learning to read to reading to learn, their ability to use language for academic purposes becomes increasingly important, particularly for Spanish-speaking English Learners (ELs). However, students often have limited opportunities to produce extended oral language during instruction. Students’ oral language production reflects both structural aspects of language use, captured through measures of linguistic complexity, and lexical aspects of language use, captured through measures of vocabulary diversity. Although prior studies have examined transcript-derived measures of oral language production, limited research has examined how these measures predict English proficiency, capture growth over time, and respond to different …
