Automation Of Data Center Service Moves, Na

Defensive Publications Series

Service moves are carefully choreographed movements of cloud-based services across data centers (DC). Service moves can equalize DC loads and enable more efficient usage of existing DC capacity through better bin packing. Service moves are laborious, expensive, and time-consuming operations involving intricate coordination between several DC personnel. This disclosure describes techniques to automate and quicken service moves of a data center. By enabling rapid service moves, the techniques can obviate DC builds, reduce purchases of new machines (since services can be moved to grow in a location with available capacity), reduce the buffer stock of machines, etc. The entire computing …

Semiconductor Yield Improvement By Enabling Use Of Faulty Chips For Llm Inference, Roberto Lupi Nov 2024

Semiconductor Yield Improvement By Enabling Use Of Faulty Chips For Llm Inference, Roberto Lupi

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques that enable the use of faulty semiconductor chips to achieve reliable large language model (LLM) performance. The output of a faulty chip is subjected to a chip-specific transformation that corrects errors. Error-correcting transformations are applied at a relatively large scale, e.g., for an entire LLM layer rather than at the level of a single matrix multiplication block. The use of unreliable components to achieve reliable computing reduces the rejection rate, and correspondingly increases the yield of semiconductor manufacturing. With the scale at which error correction is applied, costly die-size and energy consumption redundancies are reduced or …

Resting-State Functional Connectivity Of Motivational Circuity After Tbi: A Comparison Between Medical Cannabis Users And Non-Users, Cidney Rae Robertson-Benta

Psychology ETDs

For many, symptom resolution occurs relatively quickly after traumatic brain injury (TBI), however some people experience symptoms that can last for months and even years. Apathy is a symptom that can cause disruption after TBI. While cannabis has been suggested to treat several symptoms and conditions related to TBI, given the historical association with apathy, investigation of the relationship is imperative. There is little research in the medical population, with even less in specific clinical samples - this study aims to bridge this gap. 52 participants with symptoms lasting at least 6 months were compared based on the use of …

The Decline Of Representation Reinforcement In The Supreme Court: Increasing Deference To The Political Process, Jonathan L. Entin Nov 2024

The Decline Of Representation Reinforcement In The Supreme Court: Increasing Deference To The Political Process, Jonathan L. Entin

Cleveland State Law Review

The Supreme Court has often interpreted the Constitution with an eye toward ameliorating failures of the political process. Over the past two decades, however, the Court has retreated from that concern with representation reinforcement. This article examines decisions upholding restrictive voter identification laws, making it more difficult to prove violations of the Voting Rights Act, and preventing federal courts from hearing claims of partisan gerrymandering. Some decisions that seem sympathetic to failures of the political process will not really promote representation reinforcement, and the Court’s most recent cases further reinforce the Court’s skepticism of claims of failures of the political …

The Perceptions Of Female Superintendents Regarding Their Underrepresentation N Public School Districts, Vanessa Araceli Conejo Nov 2024

The Perceptions Of Female Superintendents Regarding Their Underrepresentation N Public School Districts, Vanessa Araceli Conejo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Male superintendents predominantly hold superintendency in K–12 public school districts in the southern United States. The research problem was the underrepresentation of female superintendents in K–12 public school districts. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how female superintendents perceive the underrepresentation of females holding superintendent positions and recommendations on how to secure the position in K–12 public school districts. The conceptual framework was the congruity theory of Eagly and Karau, which posits that aspiring female K–12 school principals willing to serve the school districts in the role of superintendent are perceived as less suitable for leadership positions …

Ambient Noise Tomography Of The Southern M9.2 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake Rupture Area, Joshua Ojuoluwa Osasona

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

We used data from a densely spaced node array to investigate seismic velocity structure within the southern rupture area of the M9.2 1964 Great Alaska earthquake. The node array was deployed along a ~50 km section of the road system on Kodiak Island as part of the Alaska Amphibious Community Seismic Experiment (AACSE). The full ~400-node array was active for 25 days in May-June 2019. We extracted Rayleigh wave dispersion curves from ambient noise cross-correlations between station pairs in the node array to compute phase velocity maps from 2-8 s periods. Using these phase velocity maps, we performed a Bayesian …

Ultra-Relativistic Electron Flux Enhancement Under Persistent High Speed Solar Wind Stream, L R. Alves, L A. Da Silva, V Deggeroni, J P. Marchezi, P R. Jauer, G B D Silva, D G. Sibeck

Faculty Publications

The physical mechanisms usually applied to explain the relativistic electron enhancement have been delved into to elucidate non-adiabatic electron acceleration resulting in the ultra-relativistic electron population observed in the outer radiation belt. We considered multisatellite observations of the solar wind parameters, magnetospheric waves, and particle flux to report an unusual local acceleration of ultra-relativistic electrons under a prolonged high-speed solar wind stream (HSS). A corotating interaction region reaches the Earth’s bowshock on August 3, 2016, causing a minor geomagnetic storm. Following this, the magnetosphere was driven for 72 h by a long-term HSS propagating at 600 km/s. During this period, …
