Predictive Doppler Frequency Pre-Compensation For Non-Terrestrial Network Handovers, Edison Chen, Xuqiang Zhang
Defensive Publications Series
In non-terrestrial networks, for example, networks that use low-earth-orbit satellites, handovers between satellites may be subject to latency due to significant Doppler frequency shifts for the target satellite. This disclosure describes a predictive method for Doppler pre-compensation that may be centered at a user equipment (UE) (e.g., a smartphone, tablet, or vehicle-mounted terminal). The technique may involve the UE recording the magnitude of a frequency compensation value from its connection with a source satellite. For an initial uplink transmission to a target satellite, the UE may then apply a predictive pre-compensation value, which could be derived by inverting the polarity …

System For Converting Predictive Insights Into Executable Tasks Using Retrieval-Augmented Generation, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
Predictive analytics tools are highly effective at identifying organizational risks, such as potential employee turnover, but they often fall short in providing managers with clear steps to resolve these issues. To bridge this gap, the described technology functions as an intelligent intermediary layer that translates high level statistical risk drivers into concrete, multi-step intervention strategies. When a predictive engine detects a risk, the system uses a retrieval augmented generation framework to pull relevant contextual information from an internal knowledge base, which can include organizational playbooks and historical success records. This specific context is then fed into a generative large language …

An Evaluation Of The “Police Response To Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Operations” Online Training Program, Anthony Galante, Leila Halawi
Publications
This study evaluates the impact of the “Police Response to Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Operations” online training program of officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD). By measuring the effectiveness of the training through pretest and posttest assessments and considering variables such as educational background, length of service, and rank, this research underscores the training’s potential to enhance UAS response capabilities. Employing a self-selection sampling method, the study engaged 82 voluntary participants from the DBPD, revealing significant improvement across all groups in UAS knowledge and confidence levels. Despite limitations, these findings offer compelling evidence of the training’s efficacy and advocate …
Examining Alternative Principal Licensure In Ohio: How Licensure Pathway And Poverty Level Explain Variance In Student Performance, Chris Willis, Christy Galletta Horner, Todd Cramer, Paul Johnson, Bradley Contat
Examining Alternative Principal Licensure In Ohio: How Licensure Pathway And Poverty Level Explain Variance In Student Performance, Chris Willis, Christy Galletta Horner, Todd Cramer, Paul Johnson, Bradley Contat
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
The rise of alternative principal licensure raises questions about the effectiveness of leaders that are less rigorously prepared. In Ohio, the alternative principal pathway consists of six credit hours of coursework and three years of on-the-job practice; far less formal coursework than traditional licensure (which also requires on-the-job experience) In this cross-sectional study using publicly available data (N=3189), we used weighted least squares regression to examine the role of principal licensure pathways in explaining variance in student outcomes while accounting for poverty level. Principal licensure pathways accounted for a small amount of variance in student outcomes (performance index) over and …

Courts, Science, And The Problem Of Accountable Knowledge: A Review Of Judicial Policy Making, Empirical Data And Scientific Evidence: Can Courts Manage The Twenty-First Century?, Rishabh Kachroo
Indian Journal of Law and Technology
This review reads Rob van Gestel, Jurgen de Poorter, and Edward L. Rubin’s edited volume titled Judicial Policy Making, Empirical Data and Scientific Evidence: Can Courts Manage the Twenty-First Century? as a timely intervention into the evidentiary and institutional demands placed on contemporary courts. It argues that the volume’s key contribution lies in treating courts as knowledge institutions and its strongest suit lies in showing the limits of judicial intuition, anecdote, and inherited legal categories in dealing with such disputes. While the volume is left wanting in its account of knowledge accountability, it would nonetheless be important for scholars of …

While ethnic-racial socialization (ERS) practices are crucial in Black/African American families, little is known about ERS practices in Black families of Black children with disabilities. In the current study, we investigated ERS practices among Black/African American parents’ who are raising children with disabilities and how this may influence children’s outcomes. A total of N = 8 Black/African American parents were invited for semi-structured interviews to explore more deeply their ERS practices among their children with disabilities. Several themes emerged from the data, which highlights ERS practices from a DisCrit lens, as well as the overall experiences of parents and their …
Judaism And Catholicism: Possibilities Of An Inter-Spiritual Dialogue, David Neuhaus
Judaism And Catholicism: Possibilities Of An Inter-Spiritual Dialogue, David Neuhaus
Journal of Global Catholicism
This article examines the possibilities of an inter-spiritual dialogue between Catholics and Jews. Describing the transformation of the Catholic attitude to Jews andJudaism in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, moving from a teaching of contempt to one of respect, it analyses the far-reaching reformulations of Catholic theology that promote an interreligious dialogue. After centuries of traumatic history, Jewish reactions have been hesitant. However, the past decades have led to a burgeoning relationship that can indeed flower into a mutual inter-spiritual dialogue that deepens the faith of both Catholics and Jews.

Jainism And Catholicism – Dialoguing Spiritually, Bryan Lobo
Journal of Global Catholicism
The inter-spiritual dialogue between Jainism and Catholicism lends itself towards discovering similarities and dissimilarities between the two spiritualities. Recognizing this discovery, this paper, without claiming to be exhaustive as regards the spiritual themes, discusses the chosen themes to facilitate greater reflection and potential to re-discover elements that can help the growth of understanding and practicing the preferred spirituality.
Islam And Catholicism: Theology And Practice Of Inter-Spiritual Dialogue, Felix Koerner
Islam And Catholicism: Theology And Practice Of Inter-Spiritual Dialogue, Felix Koerner
Journal of Global Catholicism
This article explores foundations, preconditions, aims, persons, groups, practices, methods, texts, and criteria of Muslim–Christian inter-spiritual dialogue. In-ter-spiritual dialogue thrives within the network of other dialogical forms: dialogue of life and collaboration, of theological and practical understanding. This article argues that the spiritual dimension of dialogical encounter may itself constitute a critical site of moral reflection, enabling participants to perceive injustice more clearly and to respond to it more responsibly. Nevertheless, the integrity of in-ter-spiritual dialogue depends upon the cultivation of trust, candor, and a shared orientation toward mutual enrichment and spiritual purification. Where dialogue is subordinated to extrinsic strategic …
The Dialogue Of Spiritual Experience In Buddhist-Christian Encounter, S Mark Heim
The Dialogue Of Spiritual Experience In Buddhist-Christian Encounter, S Mark Heim
Journal of Global Catholicism
Can one learn more about one’s own religion through the practices of another? My positive answer to this question is illustrated in this paper by reflection on aspects of the Buddhist practice of emptiness, in specific connection with Christian under-standing of our lives as creatures. The Buddhist meditative practices I have in mind have several things in common. They are introspective (activated in one person’s inner consciousness) and premised on the Buddhist understanding of emptiness (specifically “no self ” teachings). Buddhist introspective practice takes at least three broad forms. One of these is a meditative analytical awareness of the contents …

The Parts They Don’T See, Alexis Notarianni, Md
The Medicine Forum
People think they know what resident doctors do.
They know the obvious parts: we examine patients, prescribe medications, and write notes. We diagnose infections, perform procedures, and coordinate care with nurses. We work long hours and rarely have days off. From the outside, it looks familiar enough to understand.
But there is a large portion of this job that is invisible, even to the people closest to us. It is difficult to explain, and harder still to feel understood unless you are living it.

Extraprostatic extension (EPE) is a prognostically important pathologic feature of prostate cancer that is difficult to predict preoperatively. Because EPE may be microscopic, it may not be detected with conventional imaging. Several magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features associated with EPE risk are routinely described in radiology reports and may be detectable by large language models (LLMs). This study evaluated the performance of five commercial LLMs (GPT-3.5-turbo, GPT-4, GPT-4o-mini, GPT-4o, and o3-mini) in classifying pathologic EPE from free-text prostate MRI reports for patients with confirmed prostate cancer. Among the models tested, o3-mini achieved the highest accuracy (66.3%) and positive predictive value …

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is increasingly recognized to have an arrhythmic phenotype associated with ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death independent of mitral regurgitation severity. Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is a key structural abnormality implicated in abnormal myocardial mechanics and myocardial fibrosis. We describe a patient with MVP and MAD who developed recurrent non-sustained ventricular tachycardia in association with markedly abnormal basal lateral wall longitudinal strain and progressive myocardial fibrosis on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Surgical mitral valve repair performed for MAD resulted in resolution of annular disjunction, improvement in regional myocardial strain, and elimination of ventricular arrhythmias. This case …

The Effect Of Environmental Frugal Innovation On Consumers’ Eco-Responsible Behaviour In Togo, Preabalo Essokobré N’Danida, Doman Gnoufougou
The Effect Of Environmental Frugal Innovation On Consumers’ Eco-Responsible Behaviour In Togo, Preabalo Essokobré N’Danida, Doman Gnoufougou
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
This research examines the effect of environmental frugal innovation on consumers' eco-responsible behaviour. A mixed approach was adopted, using a questionnaire and a non-probability convenience sampling technique. Structural equation modelling results show that three dimensions—cost efficiency, functional simplicity and local embeddedness—have a positive and significant effect on consumers' eco-responsible behaviour, validating the corresponding hypotheses. By contrast, environmental impact and social impact do not show significant effects. The study concludes by identifying limitations and suggesting future research directions, particularly on how accessible and locally adapted innovations can encourage more responsible consumption in developing countries.

Microfinance And Financial Inclusion: A Multilevel Analysis Of Barriers Related To Repayment Delays According To Individual And Regional Profiles – The Case Of Al Amana Microfinance, Meryem Massine, Hajar El-Mahdad, Youssef Bouazizi
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
This article examines the determinants of repayment delays in Moroccan microfinance using an original administrative database of 476,145 borrowers financed by Al Amana between 2010 and 2022. Combining count models and a multilevel approach, the analysis shows that repayment discipline results from a combination of individual, contractual and territorial factors. The findings indicate that women, older borrowers, more educated clients and borrowers with accumulated credit experience have significantly fewer arrears, while larger loan amounts, some marital profiles and agricultural activities increase the risk of delay. The multilevel model shows that 6.49% of the variance in arrears is explained by regional …

Reconfiguring Civil Society Organization Governance Models For Social Inclusion And Sustainable Innovation: Practical Contributions Of The Tamuri Programme, Oussama El Hadfi, Mostafa Kharbachi
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Today, civil society organizations (CSOs) play a decisive role in promoting social innovation and reducing inequalities, particularly in disadvantaged territories. Aware of their potential, several support and guidance schemes have emerged to strengthen their impact. The Tamuri programme, led by the Moroccan Center for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (MCISE) and co-funded by the European Union, is part of this dynamic through structured and personalized support for CSOs from diverse territorial contexts. Despite these efforts, many organizations still face difficulties related to governance, financial structuring and the sustainability of their actions. This article aims to analyze, through an empirical approach and …

Comparative Approach To Inclusion Models In Social Policies In Mena Countries, Taoufik El Idrissi, Omar Raji, Zouhir Tassi, Anas Ouachani
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Social inclusion policies in Global South countries vary widely according to political choices, historical contexts and development models. This paper provides a comparative analysis of inclusion models in social policies in the MENA region, drawing on human development theories and comparative institutionalism. It discusses three main paradigms: universalist inclusion, targeted inclusion and capacity-based inclusion. The analysis shows how inclusion logics are shaped by international agendas, internal political configurations and interactions between civil society and public actors. It also highlights the strengths and limits of each model in reducing social inequalities and opens a discussion on hybrid, locally grounded inclusive policies.

Machine Learning-Based Forecasting Of Energy Consumption In A Nigerian Tertiary Institution, O. A. Adebimpe, S. S. Showunmi, F. T. Adedeji
Engineering and Technology Journal
An accurate electricity consumption forecast is key to effective energy planning and management in Nigerian tertiary institutions. While applications of machine learning (ML) in forecasting have increased, their deployment in predicting energy consumption in Nigerian tertiary institutions has been limited. Also, the significance of weather-related variables, academic and non-academic activities, and the staff and students' population in predicting energy consumption at a tertiary institution has been underexplored. This study addresses these by developing and evaluating six forecasting models, including Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average with Exogenous Variables (SARIMAX), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), …

Effect Of Higher-Alcohol/Gasoline Blends On Performance, Acoustic Characteristics, And Emissions Of A Spark-Ignition Engine, Isam E. Yousif, Adel M. Saleh
Engineering and Technology Journal
Future studies offer many solutions to reduce problems from internal combustion engines; one is the use of blended fuels containing alcohols. This research aimed to investigate the effect of blending Iraqi regular gasoline with heavy alcohols, such as 1-butanol and 1-octanol, by conducting experiments on a 4-cylinder spark-ignition (SI) engine. The first goal is to prepare a blended gasoline consisting of 88% regular gasoline, 6% 1-butanol, and 6% 1-octanol by mass, and to use it for thermal analysis of engine operation. This work fills a gap by experimentally evaluating a mixed mid- and long-chain alcohol blend (1-butanol/1-octanol) with gasoline, an …

Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Objective: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly investigated to support clinical decision-making. However, their comparative performance against human expertise in pediatric infectious diseases remains insufficiently characterized. This study compared diagnostic accuracy and management score between healthcare professionals, medical students, and multiple LLM configurations. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted using 30 standardized pediatric infectious disease cases stratified by difficulty (6 easy, 12 medium, 12 difficult). Each case included three multiple-choice questions: a diagnostic gateway question and two management questions. A conditional scoring framework was applied: management questions were scored only when the diagnostic gateway question was answered correctly. The …
