Current Events In Legal Classrooms: Enhancing Professional Identity Formation, Stevie Leahy

Mercer Law Review

In the Fall of 2023, educators were surveyed on their inclusion of “current events” in classroom spaces (“CE Survey”). The term current events was broadly defined as: “events that are happening in the world, including recent legal decisions (U.S. or global), political events that impact the operation of the legal system, and/or social events that impact your community. This definition is intended to be inclusive.” Based on nearly 100 responses, the results indicate that while the large majority of educators agreed that incorporating current events into instruction is vital, there are still many barriers to responsible inclusion of this type …

Staff Education Program On Strategies To Manage Disruptive Patient Behavior, Lazare Ngah Shadzeka May 2025

Staff Education Program On Strategies To Manage Disruptive Patient Behavior, Lazare Ngah Shadzeka

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The practice concern was the absence of a consistent method of providing structured training on the management of disruptive patient behaviors to staff in a mental health ambulatory care clinic. This clinical gap is important because it heightens the risk of workplace violence, staff burnout, and suboptimal patient care outcomes. The doctoral project practice-focused question was, How does a focused staff education program on dealing with disruptive patient behavior impact nursing staff abilities and confidence in an outpatient clinic setting? Thus, the purpose of this doctoral nursing project was to develop and implement a staff education program aimed at enhancing …

Background/Objectives: Sepsis is a costly and life-threatening condition caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Lack of a reliable, timely diagnostic for sepsis leads to under- and overdiagnosis, suboptimal outcomes, and strained hospital resources. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOLRMC) implemented a sepsis learning health program to evaluate and improve outcomes through standardized ED workflows and the incorporation of a novel sepsis diagnostic test. Methods: We report the results of the first year of experience following the implementation of the learning health initiative and sepsis testing. Data from the Epic EHR were analyzed across two groups: …

Theoretical Insights Into The Atomic And Electronic Structures Of Polyperyleneimide: On The Origin Of Photocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Activity, Yi-Qing Wang, Zhi Lin, Ming-Tao Li, Shao-Hua Shen May 2025

Theoretical Insights Into The Atomic And Electronic Structures Of Polyperyleneimide: On The Origin Of Photocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Activity, Yi-Qing Wang, Zhi Lin, Ming-Tao Li, Shao-Hua Shen

Journal of Electrochemistry

Polymeric perylene diimide (PDI) has been evidenced as a good candidate for photocatalytic water oxidation, yet the origin of the photocatalytic oxygen evolution activity remains unclear and needs further exploration. Herein, with crystal and atomic structures of the self-assembled PDI revealed from the X-ray diffraction pattern, the electronic structure is theoretically illustrated by the first-principles density functional theory calculations, suggesting the suitable band structure and the direct electronic transition for efficient photocatalytic oxygen evolution over PDI. It is confirmed that the carbonyl O atoms on the conjugation structure serve as the active sites for oxygen evolution reaction by the crystal …

Professional Identity In Context: The Transactional Business Lawyer As Counselor And Leader, Joan Macleod Heminway May 2025

Professional Identity In Context: The Transactional Business Lawyer As Counselor And Leader, Joan Macleod Heminway

Mercer Law Review

A lawyer’s professional identity development is a continuous journey of self-leadership in their lawyering role. The self-leadership may be unplanned, or it may be purposeful. Regardless, the journey is real. And I have come to believe it is important to the individual and the profession.

I identify, in my legal professional space, as a transactional business lawyer. For fifteen years before becoming a law professor, I practiced law full-time in a private firm, principally working on matters involving the legal aspects of business finance and governance in transactional, advisory, and compliance contexts. Most of my full-time law practice involved corporate …

The Pressure Points Of Professional Identity For Judges In The Modern Era, Charles Gardner Geyh May 2025

The Pressure Points Of Professional Identity For Judges In The Modern Era, Charles Gardner Geyh

Mercer Law Review

The duties core to the professional identity of a judge are encapsulated in an ethical directive at the literal forefront of the Model Code of Judicial Conduct, some variation of which all state and federal judiciaries have adopted. Rule 1.2 provides that “[a] judge shall act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary[.]” This directive implicates three challenges, or pressure points, relevant to a judge’s identity: 1) insofar as judges begin their legal careers as practicing lawyers, when they ascend the bench their professional identities must transition from …

Walking The Ethical Tightrope: The Supreme Court Of Georgia Finds The Thin Line Between Professional Misconduct And Personal Mistakes, A. Lane Hammond May 2025

Walking The Ethical Tightrope: The Supreme Court Of Georgia Finds The Thin Line Between Professional Misconduct And Personal Mistakes, A. Lane Hammond

Mercer Law Review

When does a lawyer’s misconduct outside the courtroom affect their licensed status? This question has become increasingly relevant in the legal profession where the line between personal and professional conduct is thin. To a law student nearing the character and fitness portion of the Georgia Bar, that answer feels like, “Always.” Some practicing attorneys may emphatically answer, “Never.” Attorneys are expected to follow the highest ethical standards, but the reality is that many make ethical mistakes in the practice of law and in their personal lives. The challenge of determining which of these mistakes the Supreme Court of Georgia can …

Nursing Leadership in Community Engagement Projects

Enhancing Health Literacy in Adolescents at a Homeless Shelter

Over the past two months, our group of seven Seattle Pacific Nursing Students collaborated with a local nonprofit homeless shelter for families. After meeting with the agency’s health services coordinator, we decided to focus on the teen population and enhance their health literacy. This choice was due to our population primarily not being exposed to the American healthcare system. Our team gathered information from the teens and found that nutrition, sleep, and mental health were of particular interest. Based on this, we planned and implemented a health literacy intervention tailored to …

Nursing Leadership in Community Engagement Projects

Hazing Prevention Education

Hazing in higher education is often hidden behind a culture of secrecy, tradition, or team-building. It includes any unwanted physical, emotional, or psychological activities that a person undergoes before joining a group that has clear lasting impacts on the person’s health, regardless of willingness to participate (H.R.5646 - Stop Campus Hazing Act, 2024; Boyer, A., n.d.). Seven nursing students partnered with a university’s campus security office in Seattle, Washington. This department is responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment, making it a key stakeholder in hazing prevention efforts.

Guided by the Stop Campus Hazing Act …

The Experience Of Mental Health Care Access Of Immigrants From Cameroon Residing In The United States, Geraldine Gike

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Immigrants from Cameroon residing in the United States are at risk of mental and psychological distress; however, very few of these immigrants seek appropriate treatment for their existing mental health conditions. Limited research exists on this population’s experiences of mental health care access in the United States. This qualitative study aimed to improve understanding of the mental health care access experience of immigrants from Cameroon residing in the United States. The theoretical and conceptual frameworks underpinning this research were Douglas’ cultural theory and Andersen’s health services model. The research question for this qualitative descriptive inquiry asked how Cameroon immigrants describe …

The Effect Of Bullet Morphology And Intermediate Targets On Bullet Path, Natalia Aguilar May 2025

The Effect Of Bullet Morphology And Intermediate Targets On Bullet Path, Natalia Aguilar

Student Theses

A key feature of shooting reconstruction is trajectory analysis. There are several different methods of assessing this from the bullet impact mark including: best-fit ellipse, lead-in, trajectory rod, 3D laser scanning, and machine learning. While these function in differently, many share a common fault. Few trajectory analysis techniques evaluate the difference in bullet path for bullet morphology. This raises the question: does the morphology of a bullet influence its degree of deviation when interacting with a target material? This study investigates the difference in bullet trajectories through drywall for 9mm full metal jacket (FMJ) and jacketed hollow point (JHP) ammunition …

Disability: A Dirty Word? How Language Historically Perpetuates Exclusion And Systemic Oppression, Kelly E. Imm May 2025

Disability: A Dirty Word? How Language Historically Perpetuates Exclusion And Systemic Oppression, Kelly E. Imm

Graduate Masters Theses

In 1990, the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) marked a pivotal moment in the American disability rights movement, which began in the 1960s and sought to secure civil rights for people with disabilities. Despite this monumental achievement, this thesis considers how the language used throughout American history and culture to describe people with disabilities, even within the confines of progressive legislation like the ADA, remains deeply rooted in ableist and oppressive historical attitudes. At the heart of this issue, this thesis demonstrates how the medicalization of disability, which has dominated American culture for centuries, continues to frame …

Lev Realty Group, Llc V. Nassar May 2025

Lev Realty Group, Llc V. Nassar

All Decisions

The court denied the tenant's motions to dismiss a holdover petition alleging unreasonable refusal of access for repairs. The court held that weekend access for repairs is permissible if the tenant consents or if Class C violations or other serious conditions requiring immediate repair exist. Further, the court ruled that the proceeding was not moot, even though the tenant eventually provided access and repairs were completed. While acknowledging that an eviction was unlikely given the cure, the court emphasized that the landlord still maintained a cause of action and was entitled to a trial to determine possessory rights as they …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic erupted on 15 January 2022, causing Lamb waves to propagate throughout the global troposphere. However, reports on volcanic eruptions–pressure fluctuations and water level dynamics are lacking. We quantified the propagation processes of Lamb waves induced by the Tonga volcanic eruption. Barometric pressure data collected at 1-min intervals at 485 meteorological stations in China showed that the eruption induced an atmospheric pressure event with an amplitude of ∼2 hPa over an hour and a wave speed of 295 m/s. Concomitant groundwater levels were available at 338 wells to find the barometric response to the volcanic event. The …

A Review Of Technology-Based Literacy Intervention: The Role Of Teachers, Lama Bergstrand Othman May 2025

A Review Of Technology-Based Literacy Intervention: The Role Of Teachers, Lama Bergstrand Othman

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

Research has established that the proper use of technology in the classroom can promote and improve students’ skill levels and knowledge base. Also, certain factors either enhance or impede the successful integration of technology in students’ learning environments. Examples of these are efficiency of use, subject area, and teacher knowledge of and experience with teaching the subject. The article is an umbrella review of meta-analyses on literacy intervention programs, specifically analyzing the effectiveness reports from the Institute of Educational Sciences’ What Works Clearinghouse during the past 10 years. I examined the nature of these intervention programs and classified them according …
