Advances In And Applications Of Capillary Scale Liquid Chromatography, Samuel William Foster
Advances In And Applications Of Capillary Scale Liquid Chromatography, Samuel William Foster
Theses and Dissertations
Analytical-scale high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is one of the most widely used analytical techniques in the world. Efforts have been made to reduce the mobile phase consumption of HPLC by reducing the inner diameter (I.D.) of the column. By using capillary-scale columns (< 0.5 mm I.D.), separations can be performed with orders of magnitude less solvent consumption. This work describes advances made to capillary scale instrumentation as well as applications enabled by these advances. A compact capillary-scale LC was used for the analysis of numerous pharmaceutical and illicit drug compounds for point of need analysis. A miniaturized mass spectrometer was coupled to this instrument for on-line reaction monitoring within a standard chemical fume hood. Kinetic profiles of commercially available capillary columns were developed in order to provide guidance to others during column selection. The implementation of a column oven improved the analysis of large biopharmaceuticals. Several critical quality attributes of monoclonal antibodies including fragmentation, charge variants, and glycosylation profiles were able to be determined on the capillary scale. These results will help to make capillary-scale liquid chromatography a more viable solution for chromatographic analysis.

The Great Valley Forearc (GVF) basin of California, USA, preserves an extensive rock record of the Jurassic–Paleogene tectonic development of the California segment of the North American Cordillera. We present new U-Pb geochronology, zircon and whole-rock geochemistry, and petrographic analyses from the Great Valley Group (GVG), Franciscan subduction complex, and Coast Range Ophiolite (CRO) in the northern San Joaquin Valley to better understand the timing and location of initial forearc sedimentation, and how sediment routing systems may have evolved during Cretaceous time. Basal GVG strata of the Knoxville Formation were deposited ca. 145–140 Ma and are separated by an ~40 …

Evaluating Safety Assurance Of Ai Classifiers Trained On Systematically Generated Sar Imagery, Branndon Jones
Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations
The collection and curation of high-quality data is crucial for developing robust and trustworthy deep learning (DL) models. Due to the costly and time-consuming nature of gathering well-annotated data, researchers have shifted to supplementing network training with synthetic data. However, when solely training AI classifiers with synthetic data, the network performance when exposed to data from real environments may not be satisfactory. To mitigate this shortcoming, a Gen-AI model was developed to systematically generate annotated, context-controlled synthetic imagery datasets using real SAR imagery. Through this process, SAR images of targets of interests are initially semantically segmented and introduced onto the …

Introduction: The model of emotional intelligence as an ability has evolved since its introduction 35 years ago. The revised model includes that emotional intelligence (EI) is a broad intelligence within the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) model of intelligence, and that more areas of problem solving are involved than originally detailed. An argument is made here that veridical scoring of EI test responses is a sound procedure relative to scoring keys based on expert consensus or a single emotion theory. To the degree that EI fits present-day theories of intelligence (i.e., the CHC model), any subsidiary factors of EI reasoning should correlate highly …

Landlords challenged New York's Vacancy Provisions, alleging Fourth Amendment violations for warrantless searches of rent rolls and Fourteenth Amendment due process violations concerning vacancy calculations. The court affirmed dismissal, holding that Article 78 proceedings provide sufficient pre-compliance review for record demands, and the low risk of coercion mitigates Fourth Amendment concerns. Due process was satisfied by opportunities for landlords to contest vacancy calculations through public hearings and subsequent Article 78 review, ensuring constitutional muster.

The Effects Of Post Activation Potentiation Using Accommodating Resistance, Brennan Sweet
The Effects Of Post Activation Potentiation Using Accommodating Resistance, Brennan Sweet
Doctorate in Kinesiology
Post activation potentiation is the short increase of power output following a heavy exercise. This effect could be due to several mechanisms, the most popular are increased sensitivity of actin and myosin to calcium or alpha motoneuron reactivity. The idea behind using the accommodating resistance is that eccentrics get lighter throughout the movement to avoid sticking points whilst changing the strength curve of the exercise. This may cause a greater stretch reflex and create more force from the weakest position of the movement because of the eccentrics being quicker also known as. Using accommodating resistance may also be less fatiguing …

Manipulating biology through chemistry is older than the discipline of chemistry itself. Traditionally, selectivity of oral or intravenous drugs relied on preferential drug-receptor binding. A novel approach exploiting image-guided techniques to impart spatial selectivity opens up a wide range of new possibilities for study and manipulation of biology. Motivated initially by the poor prognosis for solid tumors such as liver cancer, we demonstrate the use of an extreme form of in vivo chemistry for targeted delivery of 2-propylpentanoyl chloride in a swine model. The ensuing reaction in tissue devitalizes it by multiple mechanisms with lasting effects and, critically, demonstrates very …

In a nuisance holdover case, the court partially granted the tenant's motion to dismiss, specifically dismissing allegations that the tenant's behavior "annoyed" other tenants, as the lease required a notice to cure for such conduct, which the landlord failed to provide. However, the court allowed the remaining nuisance allegations to stand, finding no notice to cure was required for conduct impacting building staff or the landlord's guests. The court also permitted the landlord to amend the petition to correctly reflect the apartment's regulatory status as part of the NYC 15/15 Project Based Program, finding no prejudice to the tenant.

In this source of income discrimination case, the plaintiff tenant, obtained a preliminary injunction preventing the landlord, from commencing a nonpayment proceeding. The court found that the landlord repeatedly obstructed tenant's attempt to use her Emergency Housing Voucher for "leasing in place" by refusing to submit necessary paperwork, citing arrears, and failing to provide a valid Tax ID. The injunction was granted to preserve tenant's voucher and residency, emphasizing the landlord's obligation under New York City and State Human Rights Laws to accept lawful sources of income.

Estimated Burden Of Coccidioidomycosis, Samantha L Williams, Andrej Spec, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
IMPORTANCE: Coccidioidomycosis is an underrecognized fungal infection that can cause serious illness and constitutes a considerable public health burden. The number of cases is likely substantially higher than the nationally reported total, as surveillance does not capture patients who do not seek medical care or who are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Coccidioidomycosis is not reportable in all states, and cases not reported to public health entities are likewise missed. A systematic estimate of coccidioidomycosis burden is needed to raise awareness and inform public health interventions and policy.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the annual burden of symptomatic coccidioidomycosis in the US.

When a jury awarded one million dollars in punitive damages to climatologist Michael Mann, in his defamation suit against writer Mark Steyn (who accused Mann of scientific fraud), it was newsworthy, even surprising, because opinions regarding scientific matters are rarely actionable. And yet it was not seen as a groundbreaking event in terms of legal doctrine, since the outcome was easily justifiable— Steyn’s accusation was provably false. However, even if the Constitutional contours of defamation law did not change, the Mann verdict has far-reaching implications for a major contemporary social phenomenon, namely the so-called crisis of expertise, a term identifying …
