Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove Jun 2025

Artificial Intelligence And Privacy, Daniel J. Solove

Florida Law Review

This Article aims to establish a foundational understanding of the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and privacy, outlining the current problems AI poses to privacy and suggesting potential directions for the law’s evolution in this area. Thus far, few commentators have explored the overall landscape of how AI and privacy interrelate. This Article seeks to map that territory.

Some commentators question whether privacy law is appropriate for addressing AI. In this Article, I contend that although existing privacy law falls far short of resolving the privacy problems with AI, privacy law properly conceptualized and constituted would go a long way …

Tracing Transformations: (Digitized) World War Ii Correspondence Through The Lens Of The Records Continuum Model, Milan M. Van Lange, Carlijn Keijzer

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

This paper traces the transformations of a historical archival collection of personal wartime correspondence. Most of the records in this collection were created in the context of the German Occupation of the Netherlands during World War II (1940–1945) and/or the War of Independence in Indonesia (1945-1950). The collection was gathered and curated by the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam from 1945 onwards and was digitised between 2020 and 2023. We navigate the convergence of past and future transformations of the records and illuminate the intricate web of considerations and decisions of historical preservation, archiving, digitisation, …

Who's Afraid Of Femininity? An Examination Of Hegemonic Masculinity And Envy, Shiloh R. Frost, Emily Shafer Jun 2025

Who's Afraid Of Femininity? An Examination Of Hegemonic Masculinity And Envy, Shiloh R. Frost, Emily Shafer

PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal

The woman's rights movement has made strong progress over the past years, yet strict attitudes on how men and women should behave persist. Manhood is defined as being the polar opposite to womanhood, as any expression of femininity is treated as a threat to its dominant position within gender hierarchy. Research has shown that while women have managed incorporate traditionally masculine roles into womanhood, the same has yet to be done for manhood — specifically in the case of cisgender and heterosexual men. In fact, societal wide disdain towards the femininities persists despite attempts to challenge the gender hierarchy. This …

Preliminary Convergent And Known-Groups Validity Evidence For Scores From Various Executive Function Tasks In Us Adolescents With Visual Impairment, Adam Pennell, Alexandra Stribing, Peter Rifenburg, Andrea Taliaferro, Pamela Beach, Lauren Lieberman, Ali Brian Jun 2025

Preliminary Convergent And Known-Groups Validity Evidence For Scores From Various Executive Function Tasks In Us Adolescents With Visual Impairment, Adam Pennell, Alexandra Stribing, Peter Rifenburg, Andrea Taliaferro, Pamela Beach, Lauren Lieberman, Ali Brian

International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness

Investigations exploring the purported reciprocities between psychomotor and cognitive skills are mounting. However, such inquiries are limited in adolescents with visual impairment (AVI). This disparity is (in part) due to the fact that psychometrically-vetted cognitive and executive function test scores/studies derived from AVI are scant. While large sample investigations are needed, pilot psychometric studies are an advisable antecedent. The purpose of this study was to investigate preliminary convergent and known-groups validity evidence for scores from various executive function tasks in AVI. Thirty-seven participants (Mage=13.59 ± 2.80 years) completed a background information questionnaire, several anthropometric measurements, as well as the Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders …

Redeveloping For Accessibility: Applying Design Thinking Approach To Create A Card Game For People With Visual Impairment, Rosa Aysegul Aksoy Jun 2025

Redeveloping For Accessibility: Applying Design Thinking Approach To Create A Card Game For People With Visual Impairment, Rosa Aysegul Aksoy

International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity and International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment and Deafblindness

The design thinking approach (DTA) as a transdisciplinary method (Manjunath, A. A., et. al., 2023), is a problem-solving process (Cleveland, 2023) that addresses individuals’ needs, in a manner that technologically feasible (Brown, et. al., 2020). Although, DTA is structured as 1- empathizing, 2 - defining, 3 - ideating, 4 - prototyping, and 5 - testing, the overall process is non-linear.

This study provides an in-depth examination of how DTA was utilised for redeveloping an accessible game for the people with visual impairment (PwVI).

DTA and qualitative research were applied by the principles of inclusive, accessible design, along with colour contrast, …

Psycho-Analysis Will Not Save Us: Reflections On The Gen Z Mental Health Crisis, Victor Dubitans Jun 2025

Psycho-Analysis Will Not Save Us: Reflections On The Gen Z Mental Health Crisis, Victor Dubitans

Middle Voices

Generation Z (born between 1997 – 2012) is characterized as having both unprecedented mental health awareness and unprecedented mental distress. An apparent contradiction with troubling implications for the mental health field: Either the response to the mounting crisis has been insufficient or the field forms part of the problem. Taking seriously Wilks’ (2023) criticism of “therapeutic overreach” of the contemporary mental health field in the lives and development of youth, this paper attempts a selfanalysis and moral inventory about the field’s potential complicity in the crisis and in the history of hysteria. Lacan’s writings on the “analyst’s discourse” are considered …

Uncompelling Uniformity, Jacob Sandler Jun 2025

Uncompelling Uniformity, Jacob Sandler

Florida Law Review

When the potential for a circuit split arises, courts face competing values in determining the best course of action. A circuit may strive to balance consistency, predictability, uniformity, and correctness, among other values. But balancing uniformity and correctness is beyond the circuit’s remit; to engage in it frustrates the constitutional structure and congressional design of the federal judiciary. In other words, it is an illegitimate form of adjudication. Contemplating uniformity between circuits throws courts into the world of policymaking, a domain rightly reserved for the political branches.

By prioritizing uniformity, courts not only overstep their bounds but also introduce additional …

Derailing Democracy, Shirking Responsibility: The New Election Law Landscape, Cory Conley, Tonja Jacobi Jun 2025

Derailing Democracy, Shirking Responsibility: The New Election Law Landscape, Cory Conley, Tonja Jacobi

Florida Law Review

In democracy jurisprudence, the Roberts Court wears two faces. Its most recent duo of cases illustrates the inconsistency. In Rucho v. Common Cause, the Court ruled that even grossly partisan gerrymanders are nonjusticiable in federal courts. Yet, in Moore v. Harper, the Court rejected granting unreviewable authority to state lawmakers to regulate federal elections—for now. This combination of rulings is not ideological moderation or judicial restraint, as the Court claims. These recent cases are emblematic of broader unpredictability and selectivity in election law. The assertions of judicial humility in Rucho stand in stark contrast to the bald activism …

Maximum Convergence Voting: Madisonian Consitutional Theory And Electoral System Design, Edward B. Foley Jun 2025

Maximum Convergence Voting: Madisonian Consitutional Theory And Electoral System Design, Edward B. Foley

Florida Law Review

The Madisonian political philosophy upon which the U.S. Constitution rests did not supply the nation with a well-developed theory of electoral procedures. Instead, Madisonian philosophy concentrated on the separation of powers and other elements of constitutional architecture, including federalism, in order to prevent factions from subverting the common good. Subsequent history has demonstrated that Madisonian constitutional architecture, while necessary, is not sufficient for democratic government to operate in the interest of the people as a whole, rather than on behalf of a faction and its own interests. Instead, it is necessary to supplement Madisonian constitutional architecture with a well-designed electoral …

Voting Rights: Litigating Materiality Under The Civil Rights Act, Michael T. Morley Jun 2025

Voting Rights: Litigating Materiality Under The Civil Rights Act, Michael T. Morley

Florida Law Review

In recent years, plaintiffs have frequently invoked the Civil Rights Act’s “Materiality Provision” as a basis for challenging state election laws. The Provision prevents states from denying a person’s right to vote based on certain types of immaterial errors or omissions in his voter registration application or other election-related filings. Historically, the Provision played an important role in combatting Jim Crow measures used to systematically disenfranchise African Americans. Today, it continues to protect voters from disenfranchisement based on minor, hypertechnical, “picayune” mistakes unrelated to their eligibility to vote. Some courts, however, have misinterpreted the Provision to prevent states from requiring …

Originalism, Election Law, And Democratic Self-Government, Joshua S. Sellers Jun 2025

Originalism, Election Law, And Democratic Self-Government, Joshua S. Sellers

Florida Law Review

Originalism has a democracy problem. Among prevailing theories of constitutional interpretation—pragmatism, common-law constitutionalism, popular constitutionalism, and Elysian representation-reinforcement—originalism uniquely creates a legal environment in which antidemocracy is viable. That is, it uniquely imperils democratic structures, practices, and norms that are essential to modern democratic self-government. This fundamental flaw is most apparent when considering the relationship between election law (a conspicuously non-originalist area of law) and originalism. Accordingly, this Article uses election law as a heuristic for illustrating one of originalism’s central deficiencies. It is the first extended treatment of election law and originalism—a topic of heightened salience following the Supreme …

The female flies in this study will be fed dosage equivalents of 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 5 mg of finasteride, along with a control group of females who consume no finasteride. The flies will be allowed …

Nanoscale Structure-Property Relationships Of Cyanate Ester As A Function Of Extent Of Cure, Khatereh Kashmari, Josh Kemppainen, Sagar U. Patil, Julieta Barroeta Robles, Pascal Hubert, Gregory Odegard Jun 2025

Nanoscale Structure-Property Relationships Of Cyanate Ester As A Function Of Extent Of Cure, Khatereh Kashmari, Josh Kemppainen, Sagar U. Patil, Julieta Barroeta Robles, Pascal Hubert, Gregory Odegard

Michigan Tech Publications

Cyanate esters are key thermosetting resins for composite materials that require structural integrity and resistance to elevated temperatures. Because cyanate ester composites require relatively high processing temperatures, they are susceptible to the formation of process-induced residual stresses, which compromise their overall strength and durability. Process modeling is a key strategy for optimizing processing parameters to minimize such residual stresses. A necessary component of effective and efficient process modeling of composites is computationally established resin property evolution relationships for a range of processing parameters. In this study, the physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of a cyanate ester resin are established as …

Spiritual Vitality Over Material Prosperity: The Nature Of A True Davidic King In 2 Chronicles, Stephen Allen Cooksey Jun 2025

Spiritual Vitality Over Material Prosperity: The Nature Of A True Davidic King In 2 Chronicles, Stephen Allen Cooksey

Masters Theses

Three kings in 2 Chronicles are explicitly compared to David in the regnal formula, namely, Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, and Josiah. Their comparison to David is significant since David is portrayed throughout 1 Chronicles as the ideal Israelite king. This study examines the possible criteria that qualified these three kings to be positive emulations of their ideal forefather by evaluating the sacred and secular activities of each Judahite king against similar activities exemplified by David in 1 Chronicles. Naturally, closer parallels with David’s actions by certain kings implicitly tied these kings to the Davidic prototype, thereby establishing them as a true Davidic …

A Missionary's Memoirs: Mongolia Revisited, Isaac Smith Jun 2025

A Missionary's Memoirs: Mongolia Revisited, Isaac Smith

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This is my story. It is a very personal story, but one that I want to share with others. Although it takes place predominantly in Mongolia, it is not merely a story about Mongolia, or even the Mongolian people. It is not really even a story about me. What is it then? It is a story about faith and love. It is an attempt to better understand how the gospel of Jesus Christ intricately fits into people’s lives all over the world—even in Mongolia. It is a compilation of essays, of memoirs, of my experiences. It is a story about …

Planches, Cases, Bulles Entre Les Langues : Représentations Des Langues Dans Le Roman Graphique « Le Piano Oriental » De Zeina Abirached, Chiara Denti

Al-Kīmiyā

Published in France by Casterman in 2015, Le piano oriental is the fifth graphic novel by French Lebanese comic artist Zeina Abirached. Like her previous graphic works, this book is part of the autobiographical comics movement, although it takes a slightly different perspective. The author is no longer dealing with the facts of collective history, recounting the Beirut of her childhood ravaged by civil war, but she explores her linguistic biography, reflecting on her bilingualism and her dual heritage. Combining images and words, Le piano oriental retraces the author’s linguistic journey and the experience of a mother tongue that is …

Les Interactions Didactiques : Cadrage Épistémologique, Abdeladim Erradi Jun 2025

Les Interactions Didactiques : Cadrage Épistémologique, Abdeladim Erradi

Al-Kīmiyā

In an educational context, communication can be thought of as “didactic interactions”. This type of interaction is undertaken and constructed jointly. They are complex systems on the modal and semiotic levels. They are observed in situ using tools and techniques to detect, transcribe, and analyze them to understand the communicative and didactic issues and interpret them. This article presents an overview of sociolinguistic currents that study didactic interactions in linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic dimensions. These currents could serve as models of analysis in the field of sociodidactics.

The purpose was to determine the experience of writing the letters and the perceived benefit. Recruitment was through volunteer sampling, and three participants took …

Increasing Behavior-Specific Praise Use And Variability With Secondary Education Teachers Using Behavioral Skills Training, Tactile Prompts, And Multiple Exemplars, Cecilia Pannone Jun 2025

Increasing Behavior-Specific Praise Use And Variability With Secondary Education Teachers Using Behavioral Skills Training, Tactile Prompts, And Multiple Exemplars, Cecilia Pannone

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Teachers often receive minimal training in classroom management strategies, leading to punitive-based teacher-student interactions. Negative interactions (e.g., reprimands) may decrease behaviors momentarily but do not yield lasting behavior change. Behavior-specific praise (BSP) is a low-response effort classroom management strategy that positively impacts students’ behaviors and academic performance. However, training does not guarantee that BSP will be used throughout the academic years or across student cohorts, leading teachers to revert to negative interactions to manage classroom behaviors. Limited research has investigated the components of praise that increase effectiveness and saliency. This study aimed to increase teachers’ use of BSP using tactile …

Wireless Bus Interconnects For Enhanced Small Satellite System Integration And Reliability, Adam Fifth Jun 2025

Wireless Bus Interconnects For Enhanced Small Satellite System Integration And Reliability, Adam Fifth

Theses and Dissertations

In small satellite engineering systems, managing numerous subsystem interconnections presents a significant design challenge directly impacting mission success. Traditional CubeSat subsystems rely on the PC/104 header system for integration, which consumes substantial board area and adds considerable vertical spacing between subsystems. This rigid wired architecture severely restricts subsystem density, complicates assembly and testing procedures, and prevents reconfiguration of interconnections after deployment. This dissertation presents a transformative approach to satellite subsystem integration by developing and validating a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless interconnect system replacing traditional wired connections. This research addresses wireless implementation challenges. Through iterative prototype development, I demonstrate a …

Housing Refugees Amid Administrative Change: Local Agency Innovation, Christine Kramer Jun 2025

Housing Refugees Amid Administrative Change: Local Agency Innovation, Christine Kramer

Public Administration Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity

Ongoing affordable housing and housing supply challenges in the US are presenting significant challenges for refugees. According to the US Census Bureau, the average monthly cost of rent plus the cost of utilities and fuels adjusted for inflation grew faster annually (3.8%) than real median home values (1.8%) in 2023 for the first time in 10 years. This is the largest annual increase in rental costs since 2011 (US Census Bureau, 2024). Homelessness has also increased by 18% since 2023 (USDHUD, 2024, pg. 3). Even in this current reality, the federal policies for housing refugees haven’t changed in over a …
