A Collective Case Study Of How Researchers Describe Their Experiences, Challenges, And Perceived Impact Of Patient Engagement, Lorna M. Richards Jun 2025

A Collective Case Study Of How Researchers Describe Their Experiences, Challenges, And Perceived Impact Of Patient Engagement, Lorna M. Richards

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Background: Patient engagement (PE) in clinical research has become “extensively and internationally recognized as important and gained growing policy attention, supported by scientific evidence” (Al-Tannir et al., 2017, Background section). The proliferation of PE directives has driven the paradigm shift in drug development from a paternalistic approach to a more patient-centric approach influenced by regulatory agencies, funders, and academic initiatives (Bombak & Hanson, 2017). However, too often, PE activities are not well considered for discovering actionable insights but are merely an empty formality. For PE to be meaningful, patient involvement must be planned, supported, and valued by clinical researchers.

The ab initio symmetry-adapted no-core shell model naturally describes nuclear deformation and collectivity, and is therefore well-suited to studying the dynamics and coexistence of shapes in atomic nuclei. For the first time, we analyze how these features in low-lying states of6Li and12C are impacted by the underlying realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. We find that the interaction parametrization has a notable but limited effect on collective shapes in the lowest6Li and12C states, while collective structures in the excited 2+ state of12C are significantly more sensitive to the interaction parameters and exhibits …

Accurate Crop Yield Prediction Via Temporal Convolutional Network And Variational Autoencoder, Lei Liu, Xiaoling Song

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

With the advancement of technology, smart agriculture assumes a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural production. Nevertheless, accurately forecasting crop yields and understanding their determining factors often faces limitations inherent in conventional data processing techniques. To address this challenge, this study proposes a TCN-VAE framework, amalgamating temporal convolutional networks (TCNs) and variational autoencoders (VAEs), to tackle the crop yield prediction task in smart agricultural systems. The framework intricately models four principal categories of features—meteorological conditions, soil conditions, agricultural management, and environmental conditions—via TCN and compensates for missing data using VAE, thereby achieving a comprehensive analysis and …

Variational Monte Carlo Optimization Of Proton-Proton Scattering Potential Using The Phase Function Method, Shikha Awasthi, Anil Khachi, O.S.K.S. Sastri

Turkish Journal of Physics

The Riccati-type nonlinear differential equation, also known as the Phase Function equation, is used to construct local inverse potentials for the 1S0 - pp state by bypassing the well-known Schrödinger equation. The pp interaction is described using the Malfliet-Tjon potential model for the nuclear component combined with a screened Coulomb potential, with the phase equation solved via the fourth-order Runge-Kutta (RK-4) method. Based on our analysis, we confirm that the optimized interaction potential closely matches the well-known realistic Argonne V18 and Reid potentials for the 1S0 state, and the computed phase shifts and cross-sections show excellent agreement with experimental data. …

The Impact Of Loper Bright V. Raimondo: An Empirical Review Of The First Six Months, Robin Kundis Craig Jun 2025

The Impact Of Loper Bright V. Raimondo: An Empirical Review Of The First Six Months, Robin Kundis Craig

Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)

One of the most impactful decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2023–2024 term was Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which overruled the forty-year-old administrative law doctrine of Chevron deference. This doctrine allowed federal agencies to interpret ambiguities in the statutes that they administer. Courts cited Chevron over 18,000 times in its forty-year existence, or roughly 450 times a year—more than once a day, on average. Small wonder, then, that in the first six months after the Supreme Court decided Loper Bright, courts cited it more than 400 times. This article provides an empirical review of what courts are doing with …
