Anesthetic management during surgery for cleft repair can be challenging due to abnormal airway anatomy and preoperative medical conditions. We sought to determine the characteristics, type, and incidence of associated medical problems, airway and other intraoperative complications in patients who presented to our facility for cleft lip and palate repair.

The hard palate is one of the common sites of local complications following administration of local anesthetics. The hard, unyielding palatal tissues coupled with either forceful or excessive administration of solution, induction of trauma, use of contaminated solutions, or reactivation of latent viruses may present or aggravate local complications in the palatal area. Ulceration and necrosis is unusual and a rare complication of local anesthesia. Presented is such an uncommon case in a 16-year-old girl.

Filariasis is endemic in tropical countries. Though commonly affects lymphatic system, the majority are asymptomatic and even amicrofilaremic, i.e. may not show microfilariae in blood. Uncommonly, filaria may affect other body tissues. Herein, we report a case where a 10-year-old boy form Orissa presented with pyrexia of unknown origin for 6 months. He had a moderate degree of pallor and lymphadenopathy. Blood examination showed moderate anemia and mild pancytopenia. Other blood tests, fine needle aspiration cytology of lymph node including radiological investigations were inconclusive.
