A Qualitative Analysis Of How Just Stop Oil Protests Are Framed In The Uk Online News Media, Holly Handy
A Qualitative Analysis Of How Just Stop Oil Protests Are Framed In The Uk Online News Media, Holly Handy
The Plymouth Student Scientist
Previous research has found that when the news media reports on demonstrations, protest groups can be subject to delegitimising coverage. This body of research can be subsumed under Chan & Lee’s “protest paradigm” and is believed to consist of a set of narrative frames that journalists default to in the coverage of protests. Recent research demonstrates how the use of these framing devices may be in decline and advocates for a more integrated approach to protest coverage. However, there is little research that uses analytic frameworks specifically theorised to explore media framing. This study uses Giles and Shaw’s media framing …
The Cost Of Capital Calculation In The Project Finance Settings, Paweł Mielcarz, Dmytro Osiichuk, Adrian Struciński
The Cost Of Capital Calculation In The Project Finance Settings, Paweł Mielcarz, Dmytro Osiichuk, Adrian Struciński
Journal of Banking and Financial Economics
The paper aims at elucidating and solving the methodological problems around the estimation of the cost of capital in the project finance settings. By convention, capital budgeting analysts evaluate project finance ventures using the free cash flow for equity (FCFE) method, whereby cash flows, including cash, whose distribution is limited by debt covenants, are discounted with the project’s cost of equity. We argue that this approach is erroneous. From the standpoint of the sponsor company, only distributable cash flows should be taken into consideration when evaluating project finance ventures. In turn, the discount rate should be equal to the weighted …

Effect Of Contact Time And Concentration On Adsorption Of Pb2+Metal Ion Utilizing Crab Shell Chitosan And Activated Bentonite Clay Composite, Nia Sasria, Adi Wisaka, Ade Wahyu Yusariarta Putra Parmita, Gusti Umindya Nur Tajalla
Makara Journal of Technology
Indonesia produced 1,508 tons of nonliving crabs in the January–March 2020 period. The number of shells generated can account for 40%–60% of the overall weight. Therefore, using crab shells made into chitosan is expected to increase the economic value and reduce waste from crab shells. Chitosan can be modified with clay previously activated with an acid solution to form a chitosan–clay composite to improve the adsorption capacity. This study aims to analyze the differences in characteristics between chitosan and clay before and after the immobilization process. A comparison of chitosan and clay (1:2) is conducted on the basis of variations …

Makara Journal of Technology
North Jakarta is predominantly composed of soft soil that is still undergoing consolidation. According to research by Raharjo et al. (2022), excess pore pressure is still present in the soils of Jakarta. The degree of consolidation and excess pore pressure values indicate that consolidation is not yet complete (Raharjo et al., 2022). In this study, the researchers developed two methods to determine excess pore pressure using field testing. The Stress History and Normalized Soil Engineering Properties (SHANSEP) model equation from Ladd and Foot (1974), as well as Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling using the PLAXIS program, were utilized …

In studies of individuals of primarily European genetic ancestry, common and low-frequency variants and rare coding variants have been found to be associated with the risk of bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia (SZ). However, less is known for individuals of other genetic ancestries or the role of rare non-coding variants in BD and SZ risk. We performed whole-genome sequencing (∼27X) of African American individuals: 1,598 with BD, 3,295 with SZ, and 2,651 unaffected controls (InPSYght study). We increased power by incorporating 14,812 jointly called psychiatrically unscreened ancestry-matched controls from the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) Program for a total of …

Functional Ecology Of Antarctic Flora, Zoie C. Yetley
Dissertations and Theses
Antarctic mosses play foundational roles in terrestrial ecosystem processes, yet their functional ecology remains poorly understood. This study developed a novel functional trait-based framework for dominant moss species across glacier retreat gradients in the South Shetland Islands, addressing a critical gap in Antarctic bryophyte ecology. Nutrient- and water-related traits were measured for four moss species--Polytrichastrum alpinum, Bryum pseudotriquetrum, Sanionia uncinata, and Syntrichia saxicola--along with Deschampsia antarctica, across nine sites spanning early to late successional stages. Results revealed strong interspecific trait differentiation: P. alpinum exhibited conservative nutrient-use and rapid water-uptake strategies; S. uncinata and B. pseudotriquetrum …

When the end of August came around, all kinds of people started rolling into the little town of Independence, Oregon. Some walked, some came by train, others by wagon, and still others by ferry, motorboat, and canoe. There were Armenians, Swedes, Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians, Germans, and Indigenous peoples. There were those who were called fruit tramps, individuals and families who managed to bridge the vast distances across the West to harvest whichever crop needed hands. Entire families arrived, young and old, healthy and sick, with horses, mules, chickens and dogs in tow. Rich men came dressed as poor men …

A Guide For Applying Grounded Theory In Qualitative Research, Irja Shaanika, Tiko Iyamu
A Guide For Applying Grounded Theory In Qualitative Research, Irja Shaanika, Tiko Iyamu
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Grounded theory (GT) has been applied numerous times in qualitative research across disciplines. Yet, challenges remain in applying it. The challenges are attributed to its complexity, particularly because of its diversity as a research design and data collection method. Consequently, researchers, particularly emerging researchers and postgraduates, are drifting away from the theory. Primarily, the complexity arises from two fronts: (1) confusion, not being able to differentiate between its use as a design strategy and data collection technique, and (2) standardisation, a lack of understanding of when to stop in its iterative process. This study provides a structured, simplistic guide for …

The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into daily life calls for new theoretical frameworks that capture human-AI interaction’s dynamic, feedback-driven nature. Traditional models treat AI as a passive medium, overlooking its adaptive capabilities. This paper proposes the Human-AI Interaction Outcomes (HAI-IO) model, an interdisciplinary framework synthesizing human-machine communication, social exchange theory, dialogue systems, and computational feedback models like cybernetics and reinforcement learning. The HAI-IO model frames interaction as iterative and bidirectional—AI adapts through predictive processing while users adjust based on AI feedback. This mutual adaptation shapes trust, engagement, and system optimization. The model informs AI system design, user education, …
