Biting The Hands That Feed Us: Immigration Policy, Enforcement, And The Structural Vulnerability Of Agricultural Labor, Claire Kelly Sep 2025

Biting The Hands That Feed Us: Immigration Policy, Enforcement, And The Structural Vulnerability Of Agricultural Labor, Claire Kelly

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

The United States agricultural sector heavily relies on migrant labor, with undocumented workers composing a substantial share of the workforce. As the Trump Administration initiates its mass deportation policy, this article examines the far-reaching economic and legal consequences that such actions would impose on American agriculture. Mass deportation not only threatens to destabilize food production and inflate food prices, but it also exposes the longstanding legal neglect of farmworkers, whose labor protections remain fragile or non-existent under current U.S. law. This article analyzes the exploitation of agricultural workers embedded in the United States’ history, critiques the inadequacies of current programs …

How Life-Cycle Real-World Evidence Can Bridge Evidentiary Gaps In Precision Oncology, Emanuel Krebs, Deirdre Weymann, Tania M. Bubela, Dean A. Regier Sep 2025

How Life-Cycle Real-World Evidence Can Bridge Evidentiary Gaps In Precision Oncology, Emanuel Krebs, Deirdre Weymann, Tania M. Bubela, Dean A. Regier

Office of the Provost

Precision oncology uses omics-based diagnostic technologies to inform histology-agnostic cancer treatment. To date, health system implementation remains limited owing to high uncertainty in regulatory and reimbursement evidence submissions. In this perspective, we describe a life-cycle approach to the evaluation of precision oncology technologies that addresses evidentiary uncertainty and is grounded in real-world evidence (RWE) derived using data routinely collected by healthcare systems. We consider the role for RWE in international regulatory and reimbursement decision-making, review common biases for observational precision oncology evaluations, make specific recommendations for RWE study design and analysis, and specify healthcare system requirements for data collection. We …

The Art Of Compassion: How Viewing Art Affects Prosocial Intentions, Melissa Dolese Sep 2025

The Art Of Compassion: How Viewing Art Affects Prosocial Intentions, Melissa Dolese

Faculty, Staff, and Students

Art functions as a communicative medium that evokes emotion and fosters social connection potentially motivating prosocial behavior. Grounded in theories of elevation and social cognition, this research investigated whether viewing art, regardless of its thematic content, would influence compassionate intentions toward individuals across varying relational distances (self, friend, stranger). The studies also examined if the types of imagined compassionate actions, categorized by expressive modalities (Chapman’s Love Languages, Gestures of Kindness, and Hedonic Pleasures), varied with relational closeness. Study 1 found that compassion-themed art influenced compassionate intentions toward strangers, with artistic communication predicting these intentions more strongly than explicit compassion messaging. …

Opportunities And Challenges Of Artificial Intelligence Adoption In Democratization And Public Policy: A Case Study Of The Tangerang Live Application, Anis Fuad, Shanty Kartika Dewi, Yusa Djuyandi Sep 2025

Opportunities And Challenges Of Artificial Intelligence Adoption In Democratization And Public Policy: A Case Study Of The Tangerang Live Application, Anis Fuad, Shanty Kartika Dewi, Yusa Djuyandi

Jurnal Wacana Politik

This study examines the role of the Tangerang LIVE application in promoting democratization and public policy through digital innovation. The approach used is exploratory qualitative, with literature studies, document analysis, and non-participatory observation of citizen interactions—including user reviews, agency responses, and bold media—from May 2024 to March 2025. Data were analyzed using thematic techniques assisted by NVivo, with validation through source triangulation. The focus of the study encompasses (1) citizen accessibility and participation (e-participation), (2) government transparency and accountability, and (3) digital democracy practices, including evidence-based policy deliberations. The results show that the LAKSA feature in Tangerang LIVE provides a …

Examining The Role Of The M1 Motif Of Abcr1 Srna In Agrobacterium Tumefaciens, Daniel Arango-Cardona Sep 2025

Examining The Role Of The M1 Motif Of Abcr1 Srna In Agrobacterium Tumefaciens, Daniel Arango-Cardona

Theses and Dissertations

Agrobacterium tumefaciens is a gram-negative alphaproteobacterium that is one of the causative agents of crown gall tumors on plants. Its ability to transform plants using its T-DNA has been studied to improve plant-mediated transformation. sRNAs are small regulatory RNAs that play a role in gene expression in a variety of organisms and bind to target proteins or mRNAs. A. tumefaciens contains two sibling sRNAs, called AbcR1 and AbcR2, which are conserved among alphaproteobacteria. A. tumefaciens AbcR1 and AbcR2 are closely related, exhibiting 69% sequence identity, similar secondary and tertiary structure, and a conserved motif, M2, believed to direct target interactions. …

Wine Unwelcome: The Constitutional Contours Of Wine Regulation, Alexander Fallone Sep 2025

Wine Unwelcome: The Constitutional Contours Of Wine Regulation, Alexander Fallone

Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial & Commercial Law

Wine retail shops face a dizzying labyrinth of state laws that severely restrict their ability to ship wine to out-of-state consumers. While the dormant Commerce Clause would normally strike down laws that impose restrictions on interstate commerce, wine (and alcoholic beverages) must contend with Section Two of the Twenty-first Amendment, which gives the states control over the importation and distribution of wine intending to be consumed within their borders. Court of Appeals cases interpreting Supreme Court precedent on the tension between the dormant Commerce Clause and Section Two have practically stripped the dormant Commerce Clause of any power. This Note …

Barbarians At The Gate Or Angels At The Crossroads? Examining The Impact Of The Uk Green Taxonomy On Private Equity Firms, Melek Redzheb, Fatjon Kaja Sep 2025

Barbarians At The Gate Or Angels At The Crossroads? Examining The Impact Of The Uk Green Taxonomy On Private Equity Firms, Melek Redzheb, Fatjon Kaja

Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial & Commercial Law

This Article explores whether the UK Green Taxonomy will foster sustainable corporate governance in private equity-backed portfolio companies. We explore how the Taxonomy will address the greenwashing problem that plagues financial markets, including the private equity industry. Our analysis suggests that general partners will have a twofold response to the new reforms. In the short term, they will seek to address the social concerns of limited partners by negatively screening unsustainable companies and cherry-picking more sustainable ones (the so-called “exit” strategy). In the long term, however, they will adopt a dynamic strategy to transform unsustainable targets into sustainable enterprises on …

Major, Trace And Rare Earth Element Concentrations In Nist Standard Reference Material® 1646a Analyzed By Als Global Using Method Me-Ms61r, Jane L. Alexander Sep 2025

Major, Trace And Rare Earth Element Concentrations In Nist Standard Reference Material® 1646a Analyzed By Als Global Using Method Me-Ms61r, Jane L. Alexander

Publications and Research

This technical note compares analytical results obtained from ALS Global Method ME-MS61r with the certified and previously published results for NIST Standard Reference Material® 1646a, Estuarine Sediment. The results are grouped into major, trace and rare earth elements, and focus on elements used by sedimentary geochemists, for example in studies of sediment provenance. The results from ALS Global Method ME-MS61r are internally consistent and generally robust when compared with published analyses. However, acid digestion may not completely dissolve resistant minerals, leading to under-reporting of some elements such as Ti, Cr, Zr, heavy REE and Y.
