Improving Retail Operations: Understanding The Drivers Of Abandoned Products At Checkout Points In Zimbabwean Supermarkets, Paul Mukucha Sep 2025

Improving Retail Operations: Understanding The Drivers Of Abandoned Products At Checkout Points In Zimbabwean Supermarkets, Paul Mukucha

Journal of Marketing and Consumer Behaviour in Emerging Markets

The ever-increasing incidences of abandoned goods at checkout points threaten the viability of retail operations in many supermarkets. Abandoned products are associated with reshelving costs, deteriorating value due to multiple handling, and turning checkout points into a mess. The incidences of dumped goods at checkout points can be reduced if retail operations managers get some insights into the motivations behind such retrogressive consumer behaviour. The need to get such insights led to this study that conducted interviews with customers who had just abandoned their picked products at checkout points. The aim of the study was to find out the reasons …

Are Cyber-Investigators Resilient In The Face Of Adversity? An Inductive Qualitative Analysis Exploring Investigators’ Perceptions Regarding The Challenges And Successes In Online Crime Police Investigations, Julien Chopin, Camille Faubert, David Décary-Hétu, Benoît Dupont, Jerry Ratcliffe, Aili Malm

Qualitative Criminology (QC)

"Cybercrime investigations continue to pose a significant challenge for most law enforcement agencies. Specifically, these investigations present knowledge, legal, and forensic challenges that hinder police officers’ ability to successfully complete their tasks and develop a sense of well-being on the job. Studies have shown that in the face of such adversity, individuals exhibit a positive coping capacity known as the resilience process. In this research, we set out to improve our understanding of both the difficulties police officers face when investigating online crimes and their ability to cope by analyzing their perceptions of success. To do this, we conducted interviews …

Prosecution In The Eyes Of The Justice-Involved: A Community-Based Participatory Research Approach, Belén Lowrey-Kinberg

Qualitative Criminology (QC)

"Community based participatory research (CBPR) centers the voices of community members in the research process. Long used in the field of healthcare, criminal justice researchers have employed CBPR only in limited contexts, and never in the context of prosecution research. This paper reports on findings from a CBPR study that employed focus groups with justice-involved individuals to identify their perceptions of the pre-trial process, prosecutors’ priorities, and recommended directions for research. The findings from these focus groups were used as the basis for developing interview questions for prosecutors, which were subsequently implemented in two larger research projects examining prosecutor discretion. …

Disaster Resilience And Normalization: Facing Facts, Naomi Zack Phd Sep 2025

Disaster Resilience And Normalization: Facing Facts, Naomi Zack Phd

Publications and Research

Disaster resilience requires acknowledgment and preparation to be normalized or integrated into normal life. But denial without preparation normalizes disaster by  leaving it out of normal life. In Disaster Resilience and Normalization: Facing Facts, Naomi Zack explores the normative and factual dimensions of a Climate Change Paradigm, through a global scope. Apart from the normative issues of who is responsible and who should pay for mitigation, the facts of Rising Average Earth Temperatures and more Intense and Frequent Disasters must still be faced.

But facing those facts has always been voluntary for powerful signatories to the 2015 Paris Climate …

B. Hooks Elementary School’S Commitment To Inclusion: A Single Instrumental Case Study, Sadie Childs Cora

Educational Studies Dissertations

This study contributes to understandings of inclusive school reform by examining one school’s efforts to create a more equitable educational experience for all students. Despite widespread advocacy and legal mandates for inclusion, segregation of students with dis/abilities persists, along with significant achievement and opportunity gaps. Inclusion is one possible solution that is consistent with democratic values. This single instrumental case study was guided by three research questions focusing on how educators conceive of their efforts toward the inclusion of students with dis/abilities, changes made to support inclusion, and how educators define the success of inclusion efforts. Drawing on multiple data …

Objective

Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) due to recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (RLN) is a major cause of voice disorders. We have recently identified three biomolecules (agrin, acetylcholine, and neuregulin) with the potential to promote reinnervation after RLN injury. This study aimed to determine if a gelatin injectable with the reinnervating biomolecules will induce site-specific amplification of neurotrophic factor release and reinnervation after RLN injury in unilateral vocal fold paralysis.

Methods

C57BL/6 mice underwent RLN transection with the following treatment allocations: saline control (N = 16), biomolecule cocktail only (N = 16), and biomolecule-infused gelatin (N = …

Improved Fpt Approximation For Sum Of Radii Clustering With Mergeable Constraints, Sayan Bandyapadhyay, Tainzhi Chen Sep 2025

Improved Fpt Approximation For Sum Of Radii Clustering With Mergeable Constraints, Sayan Bandyapadhyay, Tainzhi Chen

Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this work, we study k-min-sum-of-radii (k-MSR) clustering under mergeable constraints. k-MSR seeks to group data points using a set of up to k balls, such that the sum of the radii of the balls is minimized. A clustering constraint is called mergeable if merging two clusters satisfying the constraint, results in a cluster that also satisfies the constraint. Many popularly studied constraints are mergeable, including fairness constraints and lower bound constraints. In our work, we design a (4 + ϵ)-approximation for k-MSR under any given mergeable constraint with runtime 2 O( k ϵ ·log2 k ϵ )n 4 , …

Mobility, Pain-Interference, Lower Limb Strength, Sex And Age Predict Elevated Rates Of Injurious Falls Among Individuals, Phillip Stevens Sep 2025

Mobility, Pain-Interference, Lower Limb Strength, Sex And Age Predict Elevated Rates Of Injurious Falls Among Individuals, Phillip Stevens

Doctorate in Kinesiology

Individuals prescribed lower limb orthoses (IPLLO) represent a diverse clinical population with elevated risk for falls and associated injuries. While fall rates have been documented in subpopulations such as those with stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, little is known about injurious fall rates among the broader IPLLO community. This study investigates the incidence of injurious falls in IPLLO and examines whether self-reported mobility, pain interference, clinically assessed lower limb strength, sex, and age can predict fall risk. Using validated instruments—the Orthotic Patient Reported Outcome–Mobility (OPRO-M), PROMIS Pain Interference short form, and the Motricity Index—data were analyzed …

Perception Of The Toefl Prediction Test Of Tbi Students Batch 2021 Uin Datokarama Palu, Nur Aida Kasi Nanda, Ruslin Ruslin, Zuhra Zuhra, Naima Naima, Noval Afandy

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

TOEFL Prediction is widely used in Indonesian higher education as a preparatory tool, yet students’ perceptions of the TOEFL test remain rarely explored. This qualitative case study involved ten English Education students (batch 2021) at UIN Datokarama Palu. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Four indicators emerged: readiness and confidence, test-taking experience, motivation, and perceived fairness. Students valued TOEFL Prediction as a diagnostic tool, but faced challenges such as anxiety, technical issues, and limited vocabulary. TOEFL Prediction functions both as formative assessment and a motivational catalyst for learning.
