Slim: Stochastic Learning And Inference In Overidentified Models, Xiaohong Chen, Min Seong Kim, Sokbae Lee, Myung Hwan Seo, Myunghyun Song

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We propose SLIM (Stochastic Learning and Inference in overidentified Models), a scalable stochastic approximation framework for nonlinear GMM. SLIM forms iterative updates from independent mini-batches of moments and their derivatives, producing unbiased directions that ensure almost-sure convergence. It requires neither a consistent initial estimator nor global convexity and accommodates both fixed-sample and random-sampling asymptotics. We further develop an optional second-order refinement and inference procedures based on random scaling and plug-in methods, including plug-in, debiased plug-in, and online versions of the Sargan–Hansen J-test tailored to stochastic learning. In Monte Carlo experiments based on a nonlinear EASI demand system with 576 moment …

The C-Terminal Regions Of Trak Proteins Contain Miro-Independent Mitochondrial Localization Domains, Lili Mitchell, Kathryn E. Reda, Hijab Fatima, Claudia E. Vasquez, Omar A. Quintero-Carmona

Biology Faculty Publications

Current models suggest that MIRO GTPases anchor cytoskeletal motors to the mitochondrial outer membrane (MOM). However, our previous findings indicate that the unconventional myosin, MYO19, interacts with MIRO weakly and that a MIRO-independent MOM-localizing domain interacts more tightly with the MOM. To test the hypothesis that other MIRO interactors may also have MIRO-independent MOM binding, we examined interactions between TRAK proteins (microtubule motor-mitochondria adaptor proteins) and the MOM via quantitative fluorescence microscopy and steady-state kinetic approaches. Using GFP-TRAK truncations expressed in MIRO1-2 double knockout mouse embryonic fibroblasts, we identified a MIRO-independent mitochondrial-binding domain in the C-terminus of TRAK1 and TRAK2, …

Development And Integration Of A Molecularly Imprinted Determination Atenolol In Pharmaceutical Samples Based On Solid Phase Extraction, Hamsa S. Omaish, Yehya K. Al-Bayati

Baghdad Science Journal

The current investigation aims to display that bulk polymerization of Atenolol (Ate) can synthesize and store molecular-imprinted polymers (MIP) at room temperature. It is indicated that such an environment has various advantages, including higher sensitivity, lower costs, higher stability, and longer life. To guarantee appropriate adsorption capacity, 0.99:6:20 mmol ratios of template, monomer, and cross-linking agents are employed for polymerization. To start the functional monomer styrene (C8H8) bonding Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) C10H14O4, the researcher employed benzoyl peroxide (BPO). Accordingly, MIP is created for Atenolol (Ate-MIP), which can be detected for pharmaceuticals employing UV-visible spectrophotometry at 276 nm for drugs. …

What Controls Ice Shelf Isotopic Variability? Local And Global Processes Preserved Within Ice Cores Across The Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctica, Orion Laurene Schomber

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The Antarctic Peninsula (AP) is one of the foremost indicators of anthropogenic global warming as it interacts with both atmospheric and oceanic processes. Although ice shelves across the AP have undergone increased rates of disintegration over the last 30 years, limited in-situ measurements have been investigated. Assessment of three short (~30 m) firn cores (J108, J208, and J409) across the Larsen C ice shelf (LCIS) provide insight into local, regional, and global processes. Average core densities and isotopic variability (δ¹⁸O and δ²H) fall within expected ranges for all cores, indicating signal preservation through firn. However, isotopic maxima in J108 and …

Think Piece: New South Korean Framework For Conceptualizing Nonkoreans?: Taehanoegugin And The Politics Of National Boundary-Making, Min Joo Lee

Asia Pacific Perspectives

Taehanoegugin is a newly coined Korean term that gained popularity around 2018 when a television program of the same name began airing on one of the Korean cable networks. It is a mixture of two independent and preexisting terms: the first part of the word, Taehan (대한), refers to the Republic of Korea; the latter part of the term, Oegugin (외국인), means foreigner. Hence, translated, the term means the Republic of Korean-foreigners. The term gained popularity enough to be adopted by other television entertainment programs and a sector of the government. What can we make of the term’s popularity? Does …

Automated Correction Of Documentation Code Snippets Using An Agentic Large Language Model With A Reflection Chain, Leonid Kuligin, Alex Ostapenko Oct 2025

Automated Correction Of Documentation Code Snippets Using An Agentic Large Language Model With A Reflection Chain, Leonid Kuligin, Alex Ostapenko

Defensive Publications Series

Code snippets within technical documentation can contain syntax errors and formatting issues, which may require manual effort for detection and correction. A disclosed method can address this by employing an agentic pipeline based on a large language model (LLM) to automate the process. The system can extract and classify code snippets from documentation pages. For an identified snippet, a reasoning model can describe potential errors. A reflection chain may then be initiated, where a first LLM proposes a fix, and a second LLM instance reviews the proposed change, potentially generating a critique if the fix appears incorrect. This iterative fix-and-review …

Improving Large Language Model Responses Using Implicit Feedback From Conversational Refinement Metrics, Tushar Chugh, Aditya Mone, Mehrbod Sharifi, Karthik Kumara

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques for training large language models (LLMs) rely either on sparse, explicit user feedback or expensive human evaluation. These techniques fail to capture the nuanced conversational friction that users experience during multi-turn dialog. This disclosure describes techniques that, with user permission, leverage follow-up prompts entered by a user as a dense, scalable source of implicit feedback for post-training LLMs. A refinement framework classifies conversational turns following an LLM response based on the relationship between the turns. The framework categorizes user prompts into two classes - refinement (a negative signal indicating user friction and an attempt to fix a failure in …

AETHERIS AND THE ECONOMICS OF RESONANCE

Why the physics of coherence becomes the business model of trust

1. The Shift From Efficiency to Coherence

For the past century, growth came from efficiency: doing more work with fewer inputs. Buqt efficiency has a hidden limit—it assumes the environment is static and controllable. In a post-quantum, post-pandemic, climate-entangled world, stability comes not from control but from coherence—the capacity of …

The Triadic Kernel of ResonanceOS: Compassion, Gratitude, and Trust as The Firmware Operators of Reality

Abstract

This disclosure introduces the triadic kernel of ResonanceOS, a framework grounded in the principle and Grand Unifying Theory of Quantum Perspective Is Everything (QPIE). Building upon prior releases that identified compassion as an amplifier of coherence and gratitude as its stabilizer, this manifesto extends the kernel by introducing trust as the propagation operator Together, these three operators form the firmware layer of existence: compassion amplifies resonance, gratitude stabilizes resonance, and trust propagates resonance through time, networks, and systems By situating this triadic kernel …

Sticker Shock Due Process, Alex Dougherty Neumann Oct 2025

Sticker Shock Due Process, Alex Dougherty Neumann

Duke Law Journal

To address undesirable conduct like infringing a copyright or placing a robocall, legislatures have created statutory causes of action that enable plaintiffs to file private suits. Instead of needing to prove actual damages from a defendant's conduct, many statutory causes of action allow a plaintiff to pursue a predefined damages amount per statutory violation. The damages are known as statutory damages, and their elegance lies in how they scale linearly, or one-to-one, with every violation by a defendant. But in the digital age, where automated technologies can generate millions of violations without human oversight, courts are now confronting monstrous aggregate …

Forfeiture Takings, Police Power, And Necessity Destruction, Shelley Ross Saxer

University of Miami Law Review

Civil forfeiture laws allow law enforcement to seize property when there is probable cause it has been used or possessed in violation of legal rules, often before an owner has a chance to contest the government’s seizure in court. In the criminal context, forfeiture is typically an in personam action that requires a criminal conviction and is part of a defendant’s sentence. In the civil context, however, forfeiture is an in rem proceeding brought against the property derived from or used to commit an offense––not against the person who committed the offense. As such, a civil forfeiture may not require …

Faculty Research 2025

Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome (WDSTS) is a rare genetic cause of intellectual disability that is primarily caused by heterozygous loss-of-function variants in the gene encoding the histone lysine methyltransferase 2A (KMT2A). Prior studies have shown successful postnatal amelioration of disease phenotypes for Rett, Rubinstein-Taybi, and Kabuki syndromes, which are related Mendelian disorders of the epigenetic machinery. To explore whether the neurological phenotype in WDSTS is treatable in utero, we created a mouse model carrying a loss-of-function variant placed between 2 loxP sites. Kmt2a+/LSL mice demonstrated core features of WDSTS including growth retardation, craniofacial abnormalities, and hypertrichosis as well as hippocampal memory defects. …
