Executive Summary: Staff Education Project Staff Education To Close A Knowledge Gap Regarding Restraints, Aaron Ross Ledbetter Nov 2025

Executive Summary: Staff Education Project Staff Education To Close A Knowledge Gap Regarding Restraints, Aaron Ross Ledbetter

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The purpose of this Executive Summary is to address a gap in knowledge that I attempted to close regarding restraint utilization. Restraints, both physical and chemical, have been prevalent over the past ten years and with their increased utilization during the pandemic which has continued post-pandemic. Nursing as a culture has become more reliant on restraints as it allows more time for nurses to provide care elsewhere. Both physical and psychological complications have been recognized during the utilization of physical restraints. Their prominence, although helpful with time constraints for nurses, have shown to negatively impact the patients who they are …

Staff Education To Improve Medicare Lung Cancer Screening And Processes, Ashley Mccammon Nov 2025

Staff Education To Improve Medicare Lung Cancer Screening And Processes, Ashley Mccammon

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The doctoral project was a staff education initiative to address underutilization of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) lung cancer screening among Medicare-eligible patients at the project site. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, and LDCT screening reduces mortality by up to 20%. Internal data from the project site revealed that only 20.13% of eligible patients completed screening, underscoring the need for structured staff education to improve knowledge and support early detection. The practice focused question asked: Will a staff education on Medicare LDCT screening and processes increase staff knowledge towards the ultimate goal of increasing LDCT screening rates? …

Investigating The Plant Folk Taxonomy In The Bena Language Of Tanzania, Adriano Utenga Nov 2025

Investigating The Plant Folk Taxonomy In The Bena Language Of Tanzania, Adriano Utenga

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

This paper surveys plant identification and categorisation among the Bena. Each society’s cultural uniqueness and peculiarity in categorising the local biodiversity informed the study. The researcher conducted the study in Lupembe Ward, Njombe District Council, where Bena is the predominant language. Five elderly speakers of Bena, knowledgeable about plants, were selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Jungle-walk-and-identify and focus group interviews were the key methods for data collection. Using the Perceptual-Taxonomic Theory as a guide, I analysed the data thematically. The study found that the Bena cannot identify the unique beginner “plant” (the all-inclusive word for the notion plant). …

Dictators And Lying Dictators: An Experimental Investigation Of Preference Based-Group Biases In Chinese And American Interactions, Aaron S. Berman, Saika Cer Askin, Shapeng Jiang, David Porter, Jason Shachat

ESI Working Papers

This study examines group-conditional generosity and behavior using students from Chapman University in the United States and Wuhan University in China. Participants make allocation decisions in either a standard Dictator Game (DG) or a Lying Dictator Game (LDG), where a privately reported die roll determines the allocation. We vary whether participants interact with members of their own or the other university community. The LDG game, through the possibility of plausible deniability, allows for the moderation of image concerns that potentially influence DG behavior. We complement these tasks with individual decision benchmarks that exclude the Receiver to control for group differences …

Enhancing Home Health Nursing Knowledge Through Targeted Education On Polypharmacy Risk Awareness In Older Adults, Chinyeaka Linda Ogbonna Nov 2025

Enhancing Home Health Nursing Knowledge Through Targeted Education On Polypharmacy Risk Awareness In Older Adults, Chinyeaka Linda Ogbonna

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) staff education initiative addressed the problem of polypharmacy, a common issue in home health care that increases the risk of drug interactions, side effects, and hospitalizations. Nurses and aides often provide daily care but may not recognize high-risk medications or warning symptoms. Addressing this gap was vital to nursing practice because staff are on the front line of patient monitoring and safety. The practice-focused question asked whether structured education for home health staff would improve knowledge of polypharmacy risks by 20%, increase recognition of high-risk medications by 75%, and result in at least 75% …

Advancing Road Safety Through Data Integration, Location Accuracy, And Risk-Based Route Optimization, Lars Skaug Nov 2025

Advancing Road Safety Through Data Integration, Location Accuracy, And Risk-Based Route Optimization, Lars Skaug

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

This dissertation advances transportation safety through three interconnected contributions that address fundamental challenges in crash data analysis and application. First, we present a comprehensive survey of road crash analysis methodologies, tracing the evolution from traditional statistical approaches to modern machine learning techniques while identifying critical gaps between research sophistication and practical implementation. This survey reveals that while methodological advances have been substantial, ongoing data quality issues, particularly in location accuracy and completeness, limit the effectiveness of even the most sophisticated analytical approaches.

Building on these findings, we develop a novel system to validate and correct crash location data using multi-modal …

Novel Unsupervised Frameworks For Automated Class Distribution Estimation And Binary Label Generation For Tabular Data, Mary Anne Walauskis Nov 2025

Novel Unsupervised Frameworks For Automated Class Distribution Estimation And Binary Label Generation For Tabular Data, Mary Anne Walauskis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

In today’s landscape, copious amounts of unlabeled data continue to be generated. This data has the potential to accelerate machine learning research; however, supervised methods require labels and unsupervised methods often require expert fine-tuning to be reliable, both of which can impose significant cost. In addition to not requiring labels, another benefit of unsupervised learning is the protection of privacy since it does not require human annotation. In addition, class imbalance, where one class has significantly more instances, can complicate model training and reduce performance. Because of these challenges, automated unsupervised methods can offer a path forward to further machine …

Feasibility And Utility Of Ai-Triggered Prompts For Efficiently Capturing When And Why People Experience Stress In Natural Environments, Sameer Neupane Nov 2025

Feasibility And Utility Of Ai-Triggered Prompts For Efficiently Capturing When And Why People Experience Stress In Natural Environments, Sameer Neupane

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Advances in wearables and AI enable real-time stress detection for JITAI, yet long-term stress reduction remains difficult because interventions must align with the underlying stressors. Traditional methods like annual or end-of-day surveys miss many stressors due to recall bias or participant burden. AI-triggered prompts offer a timely and low-burden alternative for capturing real-world stressors as they occur. To demonstrate the feasibility of using AI-triggered prompts for real-time stressor capture, we conducted the MOODS Study, a 100-day field study with 122 participants wearing smartwatches equipped with a pre-trained stress model. When physiological stress events ended, participants were prompted to log their …

The Effects Of Antecedent Interventions To Decrease Recyclable Paper In Trash Bins In Kindergarten Classrooms, Matthew Alan Davidson Nov 2025

The Effects Of Antecedent Interventions To Decrease Recyclable Paper In Trash Bins In Kindergarten Classrooms, Matthew Alan Davidson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

In 2018, paper and paperboard accounted for 23% of the municipal solid waste generated and 67% of recycled materials (EPA, 2020). Numerous studies have demonstrated the positive effects of antecedent interventions on increasing recycling rates across various settings. However, public schools are often overlooked as sources of recyclable paper. Paper is a commonly discarded item in classrooms and a relatively easy item to teach discrimination in disposal, due to similar features of examples (printer paper, paper bags, paper cuttings) and non-examples (paper towels, plates, napkins, food wrappers). The results of two studies are reported in this paper. Both studies utilized …

Elucidating The Effects Of Water Activity On The Hydration Kinetics And Thermodynamics Of Ye’Elimite–Calcium Sulfate Hydrate Systems, Godwin I. Ogbuehi, Rupack R. Halder, Aditya Kumar, Gaurav Sant, Monday U. Okoronkwo

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Relative humidity and water activity (aH) reductions have been known to suppress the hydration of anhydrous cement clinker phases. However, the relationship between ye'elimite (C4A3$) hydration kinetics and water activity remain unclear. This study employs experimental and thermodynamic modeling approaches to investigate the influence of water activity on ye'elimite hydration in the "C4A3$ + water", and "C4A3$ + gypsum + water" systems. Experimental findings indicate that as water activity decreases, C4A3$ hydration diminishes until the reaction is brought to a halt at a threshold aH. The critical aHand corresponding solubility constant of C4A3$ (KC4A3S¯) estimated from thermodynamic analysis are 0.46 …

All Decisions

In this nonrenewal of tenancy holdover proceeding, the landlord moved to strike the tenant's jury demand. The court granted the landlord's motion, holding that the tenant waived the right to a jury trial by asserting counterclaims seeking equitable relief, including a declaratory judgment to permanently reduce future rent from $1,300 to $725 and overcharge damages. The court found that the rent adjustment counterclaim was equitable in nature and not merely incidental to the demand for monetary damages, thus triggering a waiver of the jury trial right under CPLR § 4101.

A Generalized Lehmer Conjecture For The Trace Of T ₃, Liubomir Chiriac, Erin Williams Nov 2025

A Generalized Lehmer Conjecture For The Trace Of T ₃, Liubomir Chiriac, Erin Williams

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations

The expectation that Ramanujan’s tau function does not vanish, commonly known as Lehmer’s Conjecture, has inspired several extensions to broader settings. In this paper, we focus on one such direction, proposed by Rouse, concerning the non-vanishing of traces of Hecke operators Tn. We refine an algorithm originally introduced by Rouse to resolve the case n = 2, and, together with tools from our earlier work on the case n = 3 in level one, we settle the conjecture for T3 in full generality. We also discuss an implication of our result for the non-vanishing of all coefficients of the …

The Historical Shift On Depression: Psychoanalysis To Neuroscience, Melina Kehtar-Navaz Nov 2025

The Historical Shift On Depression: Psychoanalysis To Neuroscience, Melina Kehtar-Navaz

The Bear Counseling Collective

Depression, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide, has been an important subject for the collaboration between psychologists, medical doctors, and beyond. Over the past century, our understanding of depression has undergone a transformation from theory-driven insights of psychoanalysis to the biological and brain-based medical and cognitive models that currently dominate research in the field. In the early 20th century, psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud proposed an original definition and cause for depression, including components of unconscious conflicts. Today, with advancements in neuroscience and biological psychiatry, depression is a disorder of the brain that is affected by multiple components of …
