Statistical Challenges And Simulation Results For Pilot Clinical Trials, Weiliang Cen Nov 2025

Statistical Challenges And Simulation Results For Pilot Clinical Trials, Weiliang Cen

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Background: The effect size estimated from a pilot trial is often an inaccurate reflection of the true effect size observed in a large trial, leading to either underestimation or overestimation. Published data suggest that effect sizes from large trials are typically smaller than those reported in their corresponding pilot trials. To address this discrepancy, conservative or discount adjustment methods are widely recommended to modify pilot trial effect sizes when calculating sample sizes, thereby maintaining adequate statistical power. This study aims to assess effect sizes from both pilot and large trials and to evaluate the performance of existing adjustment methods.

Spatio-Temporal Characterization Of Trace Metals Across The West Florida Shelf And During The Decline Of The North Atlantic Spring Bloom, Delfina Paola Navarro-Estrada Nov 2025

Spatio-Temporal Characterization Of Trace Metals Across The West Florida Shelf And During The Decline Of The North Atlantic Spring Bloom, Delfina Paola Navarro-Estrada

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Phytoplankton in the marine environment require the trace metals manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd) to catalyze cellular processes driving photosynthesis, including macronutrient (nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon) acquisition, light harvesting, and protection from oxidative stress. The high biological demand for these elements, coupled with their low concentrations in the ocean, can limit primary production and shape community composition in marine ecosystems, highlighting the need to understand the drivers behind trace metal distributions and their interplay with phytoplankton growth across biogeochemical regimes. This dissertation characterizes the spatial and temporal distributions of dissolved …

Reckoning With Antisemitism In History And Tradition, Nathaniel Shaw Hay, Isaac Barnes May Nov 2025

Reckoning With Antisemitism In History And Tradition, Nathaniel Shaw Hay, Isaac Barnes May

Pepperdine Law Review

“History and tradition” has become a watchword of modern constitutional interpretation, shaping Supreme Court jurisprudence and framing ongoing debates over the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment. Yet this interpretive framework remains under-theorized in one critical respect: how should it grapple with the prejudices embedded in the very traditions it invokes? This Article examines that question through the lens of anti-Jewish discrimination in Anglo-American law, using this history as a case study to examine both the perils and promise of relying on history as a source of constitutional authority. For centuries, the common law excluded Jews from full civic participation in …

Ai-Driven Dynamic Generation Of User Interfaces, Raviteja Govindaraju, Harshdeep Singh Nov 2025

Ai-Driven Dynamic Generation Of User Interfaces, Raviteja Govindaraju, Harshdeep Singh

Defensive Publications Series

The predominant mode of interaction with artificial intelligence (AI) models is text or speech queries. The reliance on such chat-centric interfaces requires users to formulate specific and detailed (series of) questions to elicit the desired response from the AI model. This disclosure describes techniques that dynamically generate interactive user interfaces in response to user queries directed at an AI model. The techniques augment conventional chat-based interactions by interpreting the context and the user’s intent to construct a relevant graphical user interface (GUI) that facilitates further exploration and action. The GUI can include mouse (e.g., click, drag-and-drop, etc.) or touch-driven commands, …

Development Of E-Lkpd Assisted By Phet Colorado Basedon Discovery Learning: Critical Thinking Skills On Lightmaterial At Junior High School, Flora Yani Saragih, Pintor Simamora

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains

Critical thinking is necessary for 21st-century pupils, but PISA data suggest that Indonesian students, especially junior high school students, lack it. The junior high science/physics light material is abstract and involves in-depth reasoning (reflection, refraction, and shadow generation). Without critical thinking, kids memorize formulas or notions without analyzing real phenomena. Discovery learning involves pupils discovering concepts via observation and experimentation. Critical thinking requires initiative, exploration, and reasoning, which these foster. Therefore, this study aims to develop E-LKPD based on Discovery Learning assisted by an interactive simulation of PhET Colorado to strengthen the critical thinking skills of grade VIII students on …

Computer Organization With Arm64, Seth D. Bergmann

OER Textbooks

This book is intended to be used for a first course in computer organization, or computer architecture. It assumes that all digital components can be constructed from fundamental logic gates.

The book begins with number representation schemes and assembly language for the ARM-64 architecture, including assembler directives and floating point instructions. It then describes the machine language instruction formats, and shows the student how to translate an assembly language program to machine language.

There is then an introduction to boolean algebra and digital logic, followed by a description of the memory hierarchy, including cache memory, RAM, and virtual memory.

The …

Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Stress And Moral Injury In Adult Male Incarcerated Individuals, Cyrelah Jeanee Raynor Nov 2025

Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Stress And Moral Injury In Adult Male Incarcerated Individuals, Cyrelah Jeanee Raynor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Underutilizing trauma-informed approaches in correctional rehabilitation has had detrimental consequences, particularly for gang-involved populations. Theories of personality, responsivity, and stress suggest that gang-affiliated individuals, shaped by coercive environments, may develop psychological reactions such as fear, guilt, and moral shame that contribute to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and moral injury (MI). This study examined whether gang role, psychopathy, and perpetration predicted PTSD and MI among 70 incarcerated adult males. Participants completed the Moral Injury Outcome Scale (MIOS), the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP). Two hierarchical regressions were conducted. In the PTSD model, only education …

Studies Of Seismicity In The Alaska Subduction Zone And Antarctica, Patrick Matulka Nov 2025

Studies Of Seismicity In The Alaska Subduction Zone And Antarctica, Patrick Matulka

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation utilizes multiple methods of earthquake detection, relocation, and characterization to investigate the patterns of seismicity along the Alaska subduction zone and Antarctica. The studies of the Alaska subduction zone are built on the data collected during the Alaska Amphibious Community Seismic Experiment (AACSE) that deployed temporary land and ocean-bottom seismometers along the Alaska Peninsula and offshore regions from May 2018 to September 2019. Using seismic arrivals at those stations, as well as a combination of other land-based networks, I relocated 1307 earthquakes in the incoming plate and trench slope regions of the Alaska subduction zone with an absolute …

Parameterizing Ion–Lipid Interactions From Local Clusters To Reproduce Experimental Bulk Properties Of Lipid Bilayers, W. Matthew Saunders Nov 2025

Parameterizing Ion–Lipid Interactions From Local Clusters To Reproduce Experimental Bulk Properties Of Lipid Bilayers, W. Matthew Saunders

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Phospholipids are the main component of cell membranes, providing a delimiting boundary for cells from their environments or from their organelles from the cytosol. Thiscompartmentalization allows cells to maintain quite different solutions within their cells and organelles, including different mixtures dissolved ions. Consequently, these membranes are constantly flanked by complex mixtures of salts at varied concentrations. To study membrane structure, one cannot neglect the contribution of the salts in the local solution. Ions perturb bilayer structure via specific interaction with the phospholipids, primarily with the headgroups. Experimental studies of these systems are somewhat at odds — scattering experiments with different …

Optimising Adherence To Inpatient Rehabilitation Trial Protocols: A Mixed-Methods Systematic Review, Angie Logan, Jonathan Marsden, Jennifer Freeman, Emma Cork, Bridie Kent Nov 2025

Optimising Adherence To Inpatient Rehabilitation Trial Protocols: A Mixed-Methods Systematic Review, Angie Logan, Jonathan Marsden, Jennifer Freeman, Emma Cork, Bridie Kent

School of Health Professions

Background:The results of rehabilitation clinical trials can be negatively affected by adherence to trial protocols. Adherence is multi-factorial, but studies often look at adherence factors separately. Therefore, a systematic review to appraise and synthesise the evidence is warranted to determine the barriers, facilitators and predictors associated with adherence to inpatient rehabilitation trial protocols, whether and how factors interact with one another, and how adherence to rehabilitation protocols can be optimised. Methods:A mixed-methods systematic review was conducted and reported in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Databases searched were PubMed (Ovid), EMBASE (Ovid), MEDLINE (Ovid), CINAHL (Ovid), …

Her3 Promotes Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Progression By Upregulating Phf8 Via Mir-34b-5p-Dependent Mechanism, Hui Lyu, Cong Cong Tan, Yakun Wu, Margaret E. Larsen, Qingzhao Yu, Guobin Kang, Charles Wood, Shou Ching Tang, Bolin Liu

School of Graduate Studies Faculty Publications

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the most aggressive subtypes of breast cancer, with limited targeted treatment options and poor clinical outcomes. HER3 has recently emerged as a promising therapeutic target, with HER3-directed antibody–drug conjugates advancing to Phase III clinical trials for non-small cell lung cancer. However, the downstream molecular mechanisms by which HER3 promotes TNBC progression remain poorly defined. In this study, we uncovered a previously unrecognized HER3/miR-34b-5p/PHF8 signaling axis that drives TNBC cell proliferation and tumor growth. Mechanistically, HER3 activation suppresses the tumor-suppressive microRNA miR-34b-5p, resulting in the upregulation of the histone demethylase PHF8 (KDM7B), which in …
