The field of AI has undergone significant evolution over the past few decades. While AI is heralded as one of the most transformative technologies, scholars caution that its strategic impact may still not be fully realized. Given the strategic importance of AI in today's firms, it is essential to consider AI as a strategic orientation and understand its determinants in detail. Our study examines AI Orientation, defined as a firm's deliberate application of AI technologies to achieve its strategic objectives. Drawing on multiple theoretical perspectives, this study investigates the determinants that shape a firm’s AI orientation. This study employs a …

Background
Many interventions aim to reduce youth tobacco use, but few have focused on youth who use multiple tobacco products (MTPs). This qualitative study sought to understand how youth who use MTPs view tobacco product risks, describe reasons for MTP use, and perceive barriers and facilitators to cessation.
Methods
We conducted seven virtual focus groups with 30 US youth ages 14–20 years who reported using e-cigarettes and smoking a combustible tobacco product in the past 30 days. We used a semi-structured focus group guide to ask youth about perceived health risks of tobacco products, reasons for MTP use, and thoughts …

Role Conflict And Burnout: How Can Employed Graduate Students Thrive, Not Just Survive?, Eric M. Douthirt
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates several of the multifaceted challenges faced by employed graduate students, a growing demographic within U.S. higher education. Against a backdrop of intensifying technological change, evolving labor market dynamics, and increased educational attainment, these individuals encounter pronounced school-work-family conflict (SWFC), resulting in a heightened risk for personal burnout (PB).
Building upon the job demands-resources theory, this research explores whether school-work facilitation (SWF) and student emotional engagement (EE) might attenuate the deleterious relationship between school-work-family conflict (SWFC) and personal burnout (PB), with gender and number of children included as controls.
Data from 489 participants, collected via a single cross-sectional …

An Analysis Of Large Language Model Hallucination And Creativity: Linear Representations And Causal Roles, Mckay Bowcut
An Analysis Of Large Language Model Hallucination And Creativity: Linear Representations And Causal Roles, Mckay Bowcut
Theses and Dissertations
Large language models (LLMs) show remarkable abilities in both factual and creative tasks, yet the problem of hallucination persists despite advances in training and post-training methods. Recent progress in model interpretability suggests that model behavior can be predicted and influenced by analyzing and manipulating internal activations. In this thesis, we address three questions: (1) Can we identify linear representations of hallucination and creativity in the model’s latent space? (2) Do these representations play a causal role in model behavior when manipulated? (3) Are creativity and hallucination causally intertwined? To answer these, we construct a novel dataset of factual, hallucinated, and …

The Nurse's Role In Patient Preparation For Discharge To Optimize Patient Outcomes And Reduce Readmissions, Marie-Antoinette Chevrin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
For this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, I created a staff education initiative aimed at enhancing nurses’ understanding of heart failure (HF) and clarifying their role within clinical pathways for managing decompensated HF. HF is a common and complex condition, accounting for 1-2% of hospital admissions. In response to the rising 30-day readmission rate and lack of a standardized discharge protocol, an evidence-based staff education program was developed. According to the “ACC/AHA/HFSA 2022 HF guidelines”, effective prevention and management require nurses to understand causes, risk factors, and pathophysiology of HF, along with their role in patient-centered care. Nurses routinely …

Pathways And Challenges In The Clinical Translational Of Radiopharmaceuticals For Pediatric Investigations, Erik Stauff, Hanieh Karimi, Heidi H. Kecskemethy, Thomas H. Shaffer, Reza Vali, Lauren W. Averill, Xuyi Yue
Department of Radiology Faculty Papers
Radiopharmaceutical development and clinical translation face numerous scientific, ethical, and regulatory challenges, particularly within the pediatric population. Although molecular imaging holds significant promise for improving diagnosis and treatment across a spectrum of diseases, including pediatric-specific conditions like Kawasaki disease, autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and neuroblastoma, the path from discovery to clinical application remains problematic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provides three primary pathways-traditional Investigational New Drug (IND) applications, exploratory Investigational New Drug application (eIND), and the Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC) mechanism-to facilitate clinical translation of radiotracers. However, these frameworks are not specifically tailored to pediatric needs. …

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was a staff education intervention to increase nursing staff knowledge. Congestive heart failure (CHF) remains one of the leading causes of hospitalizations and has the highest readmission rates within 30 days of a previous admission. Consistent evidence reveals improving nursing knowledge reduces complications, improves self-management support, lowers readmission rates in this particular patient population. The DNP project was developed as a staff education intervention and focused on 30 nurses working on a telemetry unit in an acute care hospital. The project question was whether an educational intervention would increase general nursing knowledge caring …
On Heat Engines Having Efficiencies That Degrade With Every Cycle That Are Nonetheless Reversible: The Wonders Of Hilbert Curves In The Pressure-Volume Plane, Daniel Graham
Chemistry: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Heat engines are cornerstones in classical thermodynamics, not to mention fixtures of everyday life. As everyone knows, real heat engines are rife with sources of irreversibility, and, in turn, have efficiencies that degrade over time. Here we chart a classical heat engine whose efficiency degrades with every cycle, but maintains perfect reversibility nonetheless. There are no paradoxes in play due to the inviolability of the thermodynamic laws. Rather the engine operates transparently according to Hilbert curves that fill the pressure-volume plane. The assembly of the curves is iterative and digital whereby no information is lost over every cycle.

On Univariate Process Capability Indices: Some Issues And Applications, Kuntal Bera
Doctoral Theses
Process capability indices (PCIs) are proposed to assess the performance of manufacturing processes. PCIs evaluate the process performance by comparing the manufacturing tolerance with the natural variability of the process. Since process parameters are unknown, therefore, PCIs are estimated based on a random sample. Assessment of performance of a process based on estimated PCI values may be unreliable due to sampling fluctuations. Hence, it is essential to study the statistical properties of the estimators of PCI. Thus far, most of the studies on PCIs have been done under the assumption that the quality characteristic under investigation follows an independent and …

Traditional laboratory tasks offer tight experimental control but lack the richness of our everyday human experience. As a result, many cognitive neuroscientists have been motivated to adopt experimental paradigms that are more natural, such as stories and movies. Here we describe data collected from 58 healthy adult participants (aged 18-76 years) who viewed 10 minutes of a movie (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, 1966). Most (36) participants viewed the clip more than once, resulting in 106 sessions of data. Cortical responses were mapped using high-density diffuse optical tomography (first- through fourth nearest neighbor separations of 1.3, 3.0, 3.9, …
