Likelihoods For Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background Data Analysis, Gabriele Franciolini, Mauro Pieroni, Angelo Ricciardone, Joseph D. Romano
Likelihoods For Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background Data Analysis, Gabriele Franciolini, Mauro Pieroni, Angelo Ricciardone, Joseph D. Romano
Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications
We present a systematic study of likelihood functions used for stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) searches. By dividing the data into many short segments, one customarily takes advantage of the central limit theorem to justify a Gaussian cross-correlation likelihood. We show, with a hierarchy of ever more realistic examples—beginning with a single frequency bin and one detector, and then moving to two and three detectors with white and colored signal and noise—that approximating the exact Whittle likelihood by various Gaussian alternatives can induce systematic biases in the estimation of the SGWB parameters. We derive several approximations for the full likelihood …
Cryptocurrencies And Financial Crimes: The Role Of Decentralized Cryptocurrency In Facilitating Money Laundering And The Challenges Posed On Anti–Money Laundering Regulations, Jeffry A. Collins
University of Miami Business Law Review
This research examines the role of decentralized cryptocurrencies in facilitating money laundering and the challenges they pose to Anti–Money Laundering (AML) regulations through literature review and regulatory analysis. The study reveals that the decentralized, anonymous, and borderless nature of cryptocurrency enables illicit activities via cryptocurrency ATMs, mixing services, and decentralized exchanges (DEXs). For over a decade, the same regulatory problems persist today as were present at the inception of cryptocurrencies. Current AML frameworks, such as the Bank Secrecy Act and the Money Laundering Control Act, are inadequate for this decentralized ecosystem. The analysis critiques the fragmented efforts of U.S. regulatory …

Storytelling Technique For Peer Group Communication About Reproductive Health On “Bacarita Kespro”, Irene Aprilya Meok, Ana Nadhya Abrar
JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA
This study examines storytelling techniques for adolescents in group communication as a medium for reproductive health education in the “Bacarita Kespro”, a program organized by Tenggara Youth Community. The use of new educational methods is essential as traditional lecture-based approaches have proven ineffective in educating adolescents about reproductive health. Guided by narrative communication theory and symbolic convergence theory, this study employs a qualitative approach combining observation and interview data. The results show that storytelling practices in group communication involve adolescents alternating roles as storytellers and listeners, focusing on the theme of changes during puberty. From the perspective of narrative understanding, …
Telemental Health Utility: Working Toward Foster Carer Role Satisfaction And Placement Stability, Carlos David Ortiz
Telemental Health Utility: Working Toward Foster Carer Role Satisfaction And Placement Stability, Carlos David Ortiz
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Approximately 400,000 children in the Child Welfare System have an average of more than three placement disruptions while in care in what is termed placement instability (PI). PI is a known toxin to children’s neurodevelopment that predisposes them to a life of poor behavioral outcomes. Previous research shows that foster parents dissatisfied with their carer role contributed to PI by quitting or terminating a child’s placement. However, an important gap remains in the PI literature about the ability of telemental health (TMH) to provide adequate support to foster parents, to increase satisfaction in the carer role and potentially decrease the …
Understanding The Influence Of The Warrior And Guardian Mentalities On Police Behavior Through The Perspectives Of Police Training Personnel, Loren Eric Peterson
Understanding The Influence Of The Warrior And Guardian Mentalities On Police Behavior Through The Perspectives Of Police Training Personnel, Loren Eric Peterson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research on police culture often contrasts the “warrior” mentality, linked to aggression and control, with the “guardian” mentality, which emphasizes empathy, restraint, and community trust. Yet little research explores how police academy instructors, who shape officers’ professional identities, understand and teach these opposing orientations. This phenomenological study examined how Oklahoma police academy instructors perceive the influence of warrior and guardian mentalities on officers’ decision making and behavior in use of force encounters. Grounded in symbolic interaction theory, the study explored how meaning, socialization, and thought interact to construct officers’ self-concepts and guide behavior under pressure. Fifteen semi-structured interviews were conducted, …

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
Ineffective leadership characteristics hinder employee engagement in the financial industry, leading to negative organizational outcomes. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study was to examine the relationship between servant leaders’ humility, active listening, and trust-building and employee engagement in U.S. private financial organizations. The servant leadership theory of serving followers and the social exchange theory of reciprocity grounded this study. Using simple random sampling, the participants comprised190 employees from private financial organizations in the United States. They completed the Servant Leadership Scale-7; Servant Leadership Assessment Instrument factors 6 and 7; the hearing, understanding, remembering, interpreting, evaluating, and responding (HURIER) …

Nursing Research & Professional Development Conference
Introduction and Context: Earlier initiation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) improves survival in cardiogenic shock. Patients requiring mechanical circulatory support may experience delays in care for up to an hour, as they wait for the shock team to arrive. By leveraging the catheterization (cath) lab nurse and our in-house 24/7 cardiology interdisciplinary team’s availability and expertise, we developed an evidence-based simulation that allows the entire cath lab team to function as the shock team.
Implementation Strategy: Collaborating with the organization’s simulation team, a low-fidelity percutaneous pelvic model was developed to train the team on ECMO cannulation and circuit set-up in …

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) is the major lipid transport protein in the brain. Produced primarily by astrocytes and microglia, it delivers cholesterol and other lipids for membrane repair, synaptic maintenance, and immune regulation. Through interactions with specific lipid receptors, APOE maintains neuronal and vascular health. The APOE ε4 allele (APOE4), carried by approximately one-quarter of the population, has an altered protein conformation, which reduces lipid transport efficiency and modifies receptor binding. These changes disrupt lipid homeostasis, increase risk of chronic unresolved neuroinflammation and vascular inflammation, and cause breakdown of the blood–brain barrier (BBB), thus increasing neuronal vulnerability to disease pathology and …
Artificial Intelligence And The “Armed Attack” Threshold In International Law, Katie A. Johnston
Artificial Intelligence And The “Armed Attack” Threshold In International Law, Katie A. Johnston
International Law Studies
This article argues that the deployment of artificial intelligence, even in its strong fully autonomous form, does not have significant consequences for the application of the jus ad bellum framework, and in particular the armed attack threshold. As with all new weapons technologies, the deployment of artificial intelligence in the resort to force requires consideration of what “imminence” means in this context. However, artificial intelligence is fundamentally a means of making decisions to resort to force or contributing to the reasons for which such decisions are made by humans. Unlike the jus in bello, the jus ad bellum is …

Artificial Intelligence And The Prohibition On The Use Of Force: Intention And Causation, Russell Buchan
International Law Studies
This article explores the application of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter to AI-enabled systems that carry out unintended engagements involving the use of force. First, it analyzes whether State responsibility for a breach of the prohibition on the use of force is defined in subjective or objective terms. Most commentators maintain that a State must intend to use force against the victim State in order for the prohibition to apply. However, through an examination of State practice, this article demonstrates that the prohibition is based on objective responsibility. Second, this article assesses whether a State must cause the …

Multilevel Influence Of Sustainability Leaders In Business Systems, Alwen Jose Apid, Mendiola Teng-Calleja
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
Existing studies that point to the various influences of sustainability leaders on individuals, organizations, and external stakeholders remain fragmented. Using Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, this study aimed for a deep examination of leaders’ experiences as they built layers of influence through their sustainability initiatives and efforts. The study employed a reflexive qualitative approach in gathering and analyzing data from semi-structured interviews with five sustainability managers working in listed fast-moving consumer goods companies. The results suggested evident patterns of sustainability-promoting actions among the leaders that reflect alignment with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Strategies toward effective leadership influence include grounding …

Racial disparities in incidence and outcomes of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) have been attributed to ancestry, socioeconomic factors and/or obesity. We studied 253 TNBCs from 128 Black and 125 White women. Arms were balanced for age, AJCC stage, histological grade and molecular subtypes, and differed significantly in BMI distribution, obesity, and Area Deprivation Index. We examined survival rates, whole-transcriptome RNASeq and genetic ancestry. In our sample, Black race or obesity were not intrinsically predictive of poor outcomes. TNBC molecular portraits varied with stage and biological aggressiveness, irrespective of race. We identified a novel group of TNBCs with a distinctive luminal-like …

Medication Adherence Educational Module For Outpatient Nurses, Catherine Omidiwura
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Medication nonadherence remains a key deterrent to high-quality care in the outpatient environment, resulting in ineffective disease control, preventable hospitalization, and rising healthcare costs. Nearly half of patients with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental disorders, do not take medication as prescribed. Outpatient nurses, who are at the core of mandating compliance, are often not provided with much formalized education to effectively promote compliance. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addressed this knowledge gap through the development and implementation of an educational module to enhance nurses’ knowledge about measures for medication adherence. The practice question …
