The Inner Workings Of The Flipped Classroom, Kimberly Y. Resendiz Nov 2025

The Inner Workings Of The Flipped Classroom, Kimberly Y. Resendiz

Honors Theses

This paper will be exploring what a flipped classroom is; specifically how teachers use the flipped classroom. First, it is important to note that the flipped classroom is a relatively new method that has popped up as early as the early 2000s. In general, this method allows for teachers to switch the environments in which learning the concepts and doing an activity are switched. The purpose of this paper is to explore the implementation of the four pillars of the flipped classroom, as well as the benefits and challenges STEM teachers face when using flipped classrooms. I have collected data …

Myocarditis in a pediatric patient can present with a variety of signs and symptoms, leading to a broad differential diagnosis. Delays in the correct identification of myocarditis and the initiation of appropriate interventions can have a detrimental impact on patient outcomes. In this case, a simulated five-year-old patient with myocarditis and secondary cardiogenic shock presents to the emergency department (ED). The goals of this simulation curriculum were to familiarize trainees and ED providers with the often nonspecific presentation of pediatric myocarditis, educate the care team about crucial interventions that positively or negatively impact the patient's stabilization course, and reinforce the …

PDXOpen: Open Educational Resources

At the heart of this open access book are nearly 100 interviews that the authors conducted with New Majority Portland State University undergraduates, especially first-generation students from immigrant families. These young adults have a lot to say about the practical and emotional challenges of balancing their warm cultures and extensive family obligations with college and classroom experiences that are often intimidating and impersonal. The book includes suggestions from the students and some of the faculty and staff they praised for how Portland State might become a place where many more feel at home and fulfill their dreams.

Staff Education Program To Improve Nurses' Knowledge Of Diabetes Self-Management Education (Dsme) Toward Reducing Readmissions, Vivian Adaora Okechukwu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This project was a staff education program to enhance nurses' knowledge and skills in Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) in reducing hospital readmission. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that occurs as a direct result of the body's inability to produce enough insulin or the inability to utilize insulin in the bloodstream effectively, consequently accounting for life-threatening health complications. At the local organization, where diabetes is the third leading cause of hospitalization, evidence shows that it critically affects about 25% of the patient population. Also, some care providers at the organization do not have the distinctive competencies to give DSME …

Staff Education Project To Improve Management Of Depression, Maryjane Henshaw

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

I designed this Doctor of Nursing Practice staff education project to enhance the ability of primary care nurses at a mental health outpatient clinic to manage depression in patients who are non-compliant with treatment. Currently, nurses lack structured training in recognizing and addressing depression, which contributes to inconsistent care, increased relapse and readmission rates, lower patient satisfaction, and greater healthcare utilization. This project aimed to provide evidence-based education to close a critical gap in practice that affects care quality, continuity, nurse confidence, and patient outcomes. The guiding practice-focused question was: In primary care nurses at a mental health outpatient clinic, …

Staff Education To Increase Nurses’ Knowledge And Comprehension Of Psychiatric Advance Directives, Lenora Johnson Nov 2025

Staff Education To Increase Nurses’ Knowledge And Comprehension Of Psychiatric Advance Directives, Lenora Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Psychiatric advance directives (PADs) are binding documents through which a patient who has severe mental illness can specify their treatment preferences before becoming mentally ill in a crisis. PADs support patient autonomy, shared decision-making, and reduce the reliance on coercive or involuntary treatments. However, patient record reviews in this practice setting revealed that PAD documentation was not frequently practiced, and nurses were not even aware of or confident enough to assist patients in preparing these directives. This DNP project was designed to bridge this gap by implementing a formal staff education program that would improve the knowledge and awareness of …

Interfacial Gap Prediction In Laser Welding Of Pure Copper Overlap Joints Using Multiple Sensors., Hyeonhee Kim, Cheolhee Kim, Minjung Kang

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this study, a novel approach was proposed for predicting the interfacial gap in copper overlap joints by using deep learning and multi-sensor fusion. In this method, an image sensor, a spectrometer, and optical sensors tomography (OCT) sensors were used to develop and validate deep learning models under various gap conditions. The results revealed that the variation in melt pool dimensions, changes in keyhole behavior, intensity variations at specific wavelengths, and keyhole depth derived from the OCT data could be used to accurately predict the interfacial gap. Among the proposed models, a binary gap classification model achieved the highest accuracy …

Purpose – This study aims to address the limited understanding of how leadership brand authenticity (LBA) translates into employee and customer outcomes in Islamic banking, a sector where ethical alignment and trust are critical but underexplored in existing literature. Specifically, it explores how LBA influences role clarity and customer responsiveness. It further examines whether role clarity serves as a key mechanism linking authentic leadership to customer-focused outcomes, and whether the bank’s country of origin (COO) shapes this relationship. By addressing both internal organizational alignment and external perceptions, this study offers a comprehensive view of value-driven leadership in Shariah-compliant financial institutions. …

“For Haitian Culture, Being Older [Is] A Blessing”: Perceptions Of Aging, Elderhood, And Dementia In A Haitian Born Sample, Melissa K. Eustache Nov 2025

“For Haitian Culture, Being Older [Is] A Blessing”: Perceptions Of Aging, Elderhood, And Dementia In A Haitian Born Sample, Melissa K. Eustache

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates how first-generation Haitian immigrants in the United States understand and interpret dementia within the intersecting contexts of culture, migration, and biomedicine. While dementia is constructed as a pathological “loss of self” and a public health epidemic, in American biomedical and popular discourse, this study examines how Haitian-born individuals—socialized within a non-Western cultural and spiritual framework—make sense of cognitive decline and impairment in ways that diverge from Western biomedical narratives. Guided by theoretical orientations from medical anthropology, including Mark Nichter’s idioms of distress, Margaret Lock’s local biologies, and neuroanthropology, this research explores how cultural models of illness, aging, …

The Boundaries Of The Pastoral World, James Gillespie Nov 2025

The Boundaries Of The Pastoral World, James Gillespie

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This dissertation looks at several examples of early modern pastoral in order to examine how physical movement into and out of the pastoral setting informs the degree of realism implied by that setting. While the pastoral stops short of articulating the actual social, political, and material concerns of those who literally live in the countryside, it does regularly call to mind a literal rural world. This degree of realism relates the pastoral and non-pastoral settings such that the pastoral environment can represent the complexities of urban life. This pastoral representation translates the difficulties of life in the city or at …

Vibrato In The Singing Voice: A Survey Of Vibrato Practices In The Studio For Teachers And Coaches, Anna Alyce Tarver Nov 2025

Vibrato In The Singing Voice: A Survey Of Vibrato Practices In The Studio For Teachers And Coaches, Anna Alyce Tarver

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Historically variable in its terminology, “vibrato” was not used until the nineteenth century. Coaches and teachers recognize it as a signature of healthy, expressive singing, except in some stylistically appropriate contexts. However, it continues to raise questions. Little data has been reported on vibrato outside of general characteristics. Only a few sources exist examining the knowledge and skillset of teachers of singing. This survey aimed to gain information on what instructors and coaches are told about vibrato in comparison to what they experience in the voice studio. An anonymous mixed-method survey was distributed to 201 professional voice teachers and coaches; …

Chronosort: Revealing Hidden Dynamics In Alphafold3 Structure Predictions, Matthew J. Argyle, William P. Heaps, Corbyn Kubalek, Spencer Gardiner, Bradley C. Bundy, Dennis Della Corte

Faculty Publications

Protein function emerges from dynamic conformational changes, yet structure prediction methods provide only static snapshots. While AlphaFold3 (AF3) predicts protein structures, the potential for extracting dynamic information from its ensemble predictions has remained underexplored. Here, we demonstrate that AF3 structural ensembles contain substantial dynamic information that correlates remarkably well with molecular dynamics simulations (MD). We developed ChronoSort, a novel algorithm that organizes static structure predictions into temporally coherent trajectories by minimizing structural differences between neighboring frames. Through systematic analysis of four diverse protein targets, we show that root-mean-square fluctuations derived from AF3 ensembles can correlate strongly with those from MD …

Joint Action (In)Action: A Communicatively Constituted Examination Of Shared Governance, Organizational Sustainability, And The Future Of Liberal Arts In Institutions Of Higher Education, Rebecca R. Todd

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

There are at least two versions of higher education today. One is that universities and curriculum need to be reformed to suit contemporary exigencies, particularly market-driven logics and direct paths to desirable job and career outcomes. The other is the story in this dissertation, namely, that the liberal arts hold value for the creation of new knowledge, critical thinking, and empowerment. With this admittedly one-sided corrective to the dominant narrative of higher education, this abstract and dissertation begin.

In the contemporary landscape of American higher education, the liberal arts are under siege. Once heralded as the cornerstone of democratic citizenship …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Highly Stable Fisetin Encapsulated In Lecithin-Chitosan-Savie Nanoparticles, Hart Monyatovsky, Travis Anderson, Jay Nadeau

Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations

Senolytic drugs, of the class of polyphenolic flavonoids, have attracted attention for a wide variety of medical applications for which they may be delivered topically, orally, and/or intravenously. However, due to their hydrophobicity and sensitivity to light and oxygen, they have been proven difficult to package and deliver. Here we report a synthesis method for encapsulated fisetin using lecithin-chitosan ionic gelation with a recently reported surfactant that is an alternative to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-containing compounds. Called “Savie” for a contraction of its components, sarcosine-Vitamin E, this surfactant allows for production of sub-100 nm nanoparticles that are bench stable for at …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

This report highlights the diagnostic challenges and successful surgical management in a symptomatic pediatric case with anomalous origin of the circumflex artery from the pulmonary artery. A 4-year-old boy presented emergently with dyspnea and substernal pain. Coronary angiography identified the circumflex artery originating anomalously from the right pulmonary artery. Emergency surgical reimplantation to the aorta was performed, with subsequent normalization of cardiac function (EF 67% at 3-month follow-up). Although exceptionally rare, anomalous origin of the circumflex artery from the pulmonary artery requires high clinical suspicion in pediatric patients with ischemic symptoms. Early anatomical correction yields excellent outcomes, as demonstrated in …

Retaining The Herd: Habitat Restoration Efforts Increase Patch Retention Times In Mule Deer, Jack Rasmussen

Browse all Datasets

Across much of their range, and the State of Utah, mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) populations have been declining. Declines in herd numbers can be attributed to alterations to historic habitats through the introduction of exotic annual grasses and the encroachment of pinyon-juniper forests on sagebrush ecosystems, changing resource availability. To combat habitat alterations, the Utah Department of Natural Resources has implemented various habitat restoration treatments through the Watershed Restoration Initiative , broadly to remove exotic species and decrease pinyon juniper woodland encroachment. We investigated how mule deer patch retention times differ on eight different habitat restoration treatment types during summer …
