Clinical Signs Predictive Of Severe Illness In Young Pakistani Infants, Shahira Shahid, Shiyam Sunder Tikmani, Kanwal Nayani, Ayesha Munir, Nick Brown, Anita K. M. Zaidi, Fyezah Jehan, Muhammad Imran Nisar

Department of Paediatrics and Child Health

Objective: Early detection of specific signs and symptoms to predict severe illness is essential to prevent infant mortality. As a continuation of the results from the multicenter Young Infants Clinical Signs and Symptoms (YICSS) study, we present here the performance of the seven-sign algorithm in 3 age categories (0-6 days, 7-27 days and 28-59 days) in Pakistani infants aged 0-59 days.
Results: From September 2003 to November 2004, 2950 infants were enrolled (age group 0-6 days = 1633, 7-27 days = 817, 28-59 days = 500). The common reason for seeking care was umbilical redness or discharge (29.2%) in the …

Non-Destructive Correlative 3d Characterization Of Nuclear Graphite: From The Micro-Scale To The Nano-Scale, Stephen Kelly, Robin White, William Harris, Tobias Volkenandt, Giuliano Laudone, Katie Jones, Benjamin Tordoff, Ben Veater

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Graphite is a key material in the design and operation of a wide range of nuclear reactors because of its attractive combination of thermal, mechanical, and neutron interaction properties. In all its applications, the microstructural evolution of nuclear graphite under operating conditions will strongly influence reactor lifetime and performance. However, measuring the 3D microstructural characteristics of nuclear graphite has traditionally faced many challenges. X-ray tomographic techniques face limitations in achievable resolution on bulk (mm-sized) specimens while serial sectioning techniques like FIB-SEM struggle to achieve adequate milling rates for tomographic imaging over representative volumes. To address these shortcomings, we present here …

Online Brand Advocacy And Brand Loyalty: A Reciprocal Relationship?, Violetta Wilk, Geoffrey N. Soutar, Paul Harrigan

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of the online brand advocacy (OBA) and brand loyalty relationship through a social identity theory lens.

Design/methodology/approach: An online survey was used to obtain the needed data and the relationships of interest were examined using a partial least squares structural equation modelling approach.

Findings: Brand loyalty and consumer-brand identification were found to be predictors of OBA, while OBA impacted on purchase intent. In addition, a strong reciprocal relationship was found between OBA and brand loyalty, which has not been reported in prior studies.

Research limitations/implications: This study highlighted OBA's …

Linkages Between Grade Point Average And Student Ratings, Robert D. Richardson, Robert L. Williams

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

In order to better understand the potential influence of high school students’ grades on how they rate their teachers and schools, we explored the relationship between student grade point average and student ratings of teacher and school effectiveness in 370 classes taught by 230 instructors with over 6,000 students in grades 9–12 in an Intermountain West school district. Teachers were evaluated with an 18-item student survey. Students also rated their schools with six additional items. The performance measure was the grade point average (GPA) for the quarter in which students evaluated their teachers and schools. ANOVAs showed that both year …

Combine Multi-Type Module Card Structure Fixed Design, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

Every module need take up space in the PCBA layout and system internal. When product support multitype

module, it should provide more space in the PCBA layout, but some configuration doesn’t need to

support all module, so they will waste in the non‐use module space. If we can leverage same space for

different module that can saving space and cost. It also can help service to change module for user

request. How to do change different module on the same place is our idea. We design out very clear and

convenience method to resolve this problem.

An Automated Regression Testing Framework For Validating Voxel Data Pipelines, Hp Inc Feb 2021

An Automated Regression Testing Framework For Validating Voxel Data Pipelines, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

A Voxel is the minimal subdivision of a space at the resolution that a device is working. A Voxel Data

Pipeline aims to produce the voxel representation of the content to be consumed by the device from

some input representation, usually as vector data (e.g. triangle meshes). During this process, in most

of the cases it is required that the content 3D geometry suffers one or more transformations to apply

certain compensations which are device specific. Examples are scaling, surface offsets or color

corrections which are required by a 3D Printer to produce the part with the expected part quality …

White Balancing Of A Camera In A Home Appliance_Id-05265, Christian Mohr Feb 2021

White Balancing Of A Camera In A Home Appliance_Id-05265, Christian Mohr

Defensive Publications Series

The invention proposes that a kitchen appliance with a camera assisted cooking to achieve auto white balance (AWB) by using an algorithm. The algorithm allows the prevention of color biasing, commonly caused by a color channel failure during image processing. The color biasing results in the wrong estimation of food browning to mislead users to end up cooking processes based on the image's information with low qualities. It causes the users to get overcooked or undercooked foods to degrade the user experience. Hence, the invention solves the color biasing issue, thereby allowing accurate identification of food browning inside an oven.

Fall-Protection Harness Training: Donning Skill Improves With Up To Four Repetitions, Zachary Bunney, Roger C. Jensen, Daniel Autenrieth Feb 2021

Fall-Protection Harness Training: Donning Skill Improves With Up To Four Repetitions, Zachary Bunney, Roger C. Jensen, Daniel Autenrieth

Safety Health & Industrial Hygiene

Injuries and fatalities from falling remain a major occupational safety concern. Among the multiple tactics for preventing fatal falls is the use of personal fall protection involving wearing a harness connected to a secure anchor point. This requires training to ensure trainees understand the importance of fall protection and have the skill to implement it correctly. One important skill is donning a fall protection harness and adjusting the straps. Those who conduct training on fall protection need to coach trainees through the steps involved in donning a harness. This study was undertaken to learn the benefits of practicing with the …

Teaching Expository Writing In The Secondary Classroom, Krista Schroeder Feb 2021

Teaching Expository Writing In The Secondary Classroom, Krista Schroeder

Graduate Teacher Education

This paper synthesized current research on how secondary English-language arts teachers can best teach students to organize their ideas through expository writing. This topic is discussed through research findings about defining “good” writing, organizational indicators of quality writing, assessment, classroom strategies, and the impact of home life during the expository writing process. Research indicated that giving students peer, self, and teacher assessment opportunities could have a positive effect on how students organize their writing. Additionally, recent research has shown that when teachers make the writing process personal and fun, students produced higher quality expository writing. While studies suggested that educators …

Reducing Civilian Deaths While In Police Custody, Richena Rogers Feb 2021

Reducing Civilian Deaths While In Police Custody, Richena Rogers

Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Leadership

Civilian death while in police custody has been on an upward trend and continues to make the news across the United States. Minorities seem to be the ones who suffer this fate more frequently than Caucasians (DeGue, 2016). This shows the injustice, inequality, and double standard within our law enforcement system. To begin the healing process and restore trust between civilians and law enforcement agencies change needs to happen that corrects the apparent injustices and prejudices being perpetuated within law enforcement agencies. The public should not fear their local police agencies and minorities should not fear dying while interacting with …
