Arkansas Law Notes
This Comment discusses various aspects of the modern hospital and examines charitable immunity’s incompatibility with modern law.
First, Part II explains the historical justifications for immunity and presents the doctrine’s landscape in the United States. Part III examines the role precedent plays in continuing to adhere to the rule of immunity. Part IV takes an in-depth approach of the big business of hospitals by evaluating various financial aspects of charitable hospitals. Part V explores the reality of charitable immunity falling out of touch with concepts of modern law. Part VI takes a more specific look at the application of the …

Due to the increased prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), more children with ASD may be referred for genetic testing. It is important to develop a tool to help parents consider the benefits and drawbacks of genetic testing for ASD before pursuing genetic testing for children with ASD. We developed the first theory-based survey—Perceptions of ASD Genetic Testing Survey (POAGTS), as a tool to assist healthcare providers to better understand parents’ perceptions and concerns regarding ASD genetic testing. The psychometric properties of POAGTS were first pre-tested and then formally tested with 308 parents of children with ASD who had not …

In Loving Memory: Beginning The Conversation On Grief And Loss, Sydney Anne Bitz
Honors Thesis
My series In Loving Memory focus on societal grief constructs and culture through presenting my experience with my father’s death in 2012. The current culture of grief in society needs to be reformed. Through my own personal vulnerability, I create an atmosphere to begin the uncomfortable conversation that allows for grief to have an existence. I aim not to show a correct way to grieve, just my way of grieving. Grief is universal because death is universal—but my work shows the deeply personal aspect of mourning and loss. I am, perhaps, not asking you to feel emotions as I feel …

Insufficient stress response and elevated oxidative stress can contribute to skeletal muscle atrophy during mechanical unloading (e.g., spaceflight and bedrest). Perturbations in heat shock proteins (e.g., HSP70), antioxidant enzymes, and sarcolemmal neuronal nitric oxidase synthase (nNOS) have been linked to unloading-induced atrophy. We recently discovered that the sarcolemmal NADPH oxidase-2 complex (Nox2) is elevated during unloading, downstream of angiotensin II receptor 1, and concomitant with atrophy. Here, we hypothesized that peptidyl inhibition of Nox2 would attenuate disruption of HSP70, MnSOD, and sarcolemmal nNOS during unloading, and thus muscle fiber atrophy. F344 rats were divided into control (CON), hindlimb unloaded (HU), …

Analysis Of System Performance Metrics Towards The Detection Of Cryptojacking In Iot Devices, Richard Matthews
Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations
This single-case mechanism study examined the effects of cryptojacking on Internet of Things (IoT) device performance metrics. Cryptojacking is a cyber-threat that involves stealing the computational resources of devices belonging to others to generate cryptocurrencies. The resources primarily include the processing cycles of devices and the additional electricity needed to power this additional load. The literature surveyed showed that cryptojacking has been gaining in popularity and is now one of the top cyberthreats. Cryptocurrencies offer anyone more freedom and anonymity than dealing with traditional financial institutions which make them especially attractive to cybercriminals. Other reasons for the increasing popularity of …

Hoax in social media is increasingly flooding all types of social media. The ease with which people consume and produce information on social media provides freedom for citizens to express themselves and their attitudes regardless of whether the information is true or a hoax. ironically, this phenomenon is also affecting academics who are highly educated and work as lecturers. This article attempts to explore the digital literacy competencies of lecturers in Indonesia by taking samples of lecturers in two big cities, namely Medan and Bandung. The research was conducted using a digital ethnographic method that allows the author to be …
Energy-Constrained Distinguishability Measures For Assessing Performance In Quantum Information Processing, Kunal Sharma
Energy-Constrained Distinguishability Measures For Assessing Performance In Quantum Information Processing, Kunal Sharma
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The aim of this thesis is to develop a framework for assessing performance in quantum information processing with continuous variables. In particular, we focus on quantifying the fundamental limitations on communication and computation over bosonic Gaussian systems. Due to their infinite-dimensional structure, we make a realistic assumption of energy constraints on the input states of continuous-variable (CV) quantum operations. Our first contribution is to show that energy-constrained distinguishability measures can be used to establish tight upper bounds on the communication capacities of phase-insensitive, bosonic Gaussian channels -- thermal, amplifier, and additive-noise channels. We then prove that an optimal Gaussian input …

January 30, 2021, marked the first anniversary of the declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) of COVID-19 as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). Thus far, the world has been no match for SARS-CoV-2, with more than 100 million cases and 2.5 million deaths. The US has been among the world’s poorest performers in addressing the pandemic, with more than 500 000 deaths.
Vaccines offer the best chance of returning to normal, but circulating variants pose a major obstacle, particularly the emergence of variants that are more transmissible and are developing partial resistance to vaccines against …

Dynamic Drying To Avoid White Ink Marks, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
One of the most desired (premium) applications in the printing world is print with white ink. Obtain white ink
that looks very white and does not turn yellow is difficult to achieve. White ink contains a pigment that
precipitate easily and that means that the ink has to be constantly recirculating through the printer's ink
tubes to avoid the precipitation.
In some white print modes, the white ink is printed first as an opacity layer, and then the colored ink is printed on top. If the white ink has not dried properly, when you print the color ink, it is …

The purge process of the Ink Delivery System (IDS) of a printer is a critical process
from several points of view.
It is one of the process of the Out of the Box Experience, it is the first contact of the
customer with the printer that has just been bought. And the first time the printer starts
moving ink. So, any problem related to the purge has a huge impact on customer
experience.

It was in the spring of 1835, a few months before the actual commencement of that long, harrassing conflict between the Indians of Florida and the whites. Pioneer settlers in Florida had been subject to sporadic attacks by the Indians for many months. A few lives had been lost but, at this time, the conflict between the Indians, who claimed prior possession of the country, and the whites, who claimed ownership under the treaties of 1823 and 1832 had hardly reached a state of warfare.

Blowing snow (BLSN) is an impactful process in cold climates, affecting regional thermodynamics, radiation properties, and the surface mass balance of snow. Though it has significant climatic impacts, the process is still poorly understood and not widely included in weather and climate models. In 2016, the AWARE Field Campaign saw the deployment of a large suite of in situ and remote sensing instruments to McMurdo Station, Antarctica allowing for investigation of BLSN. A ceilometer-based BLSN detection algorithm used elsewhere in Antarctica is applied to data from AWARE, yielding a BLSN frequency of 14.1% compared to 8.2% as detected by human …

I see the world not as one seamless world but as a world composed of other worlds, built on top and within one another. They exist harmoniously, bound not by space but by time. In an instant I can move from one world into another where I can exist in two worlds simultaneously—in space, I am here. In time, I am there.
Worldmaking is a conceptual process of seeing connections and making distinctions within our lived reality.1 It is a process of dividing and organizing parts into collections that represent different narratives. Only through suitable arrangements can we handle vast …
