Peptide Sequencing Via Protein Language Models, Thuong Le Hoai Pham Jan 2026

Peptide Sequencing Via Protein Language Models, Thuong Le Hoai Pham

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Protein sequencing is fundamental to understanding biological processes, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic developments. Current protein sequencing techniques, primarily relying on mass spectrometry and Edman degradation, face significant limitations in accurately identifying all amino acids within a protein, hindering comprehensive proteome analysis. Recent advances in click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry have enabled the identification of specific amino acids and their positions within a peptide; however, these techniques are still limited by the number of amino acids that can be identified with high accuracy and specificity, resulting in partially known sequences. This thesis presents a novel computational approach that leverages protein language …

Nurse-Led Interventions To Reduce Occupational Hand Injuries In Manufacturing, Patti Harter Jan 2026

Nurse-Led Interventions To Reduce Occupational Hand Injuries In Manufacturing, Patti Harter

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Occupational hand injuries cause preventable morbidity, lost productivity, and workers’ compensation costs in manufacturing. Although safety policies and personal protective equipment (PPE) are in place, inconsistent glove use, slow hazard identification, and delayed response still cause injuries. This quality improvement (QI) project evaluated an eight-week, nurse-led injury-prevention bundle at a Texas heavy-vehicle manufacturing facility. The intervention required daily glove inspections, Safety Champion participation, real-time electronic hazard reporting, and corrective action within the shift. Injury outcomes were measured using Occupational Safety and Administration (OSHA) rates per 200,000 work hours and percentage change from baseline. After implementation, hand injury rates fell from …

Tiny Heart Bundle Qi Project: 3d Modeling To Improve Care Of Cardiac Nicu Patients, Stacy Ranee Harris

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Background—Infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) are being care for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) by increasing numbers of novice nurses. Understanding complex cardiac anatomy is imperative to novice nurses’ readiness to care. Parents of infants with CHD may not understand their child’s anatomy, which impacts many facets of their care.

Purpose— The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project was to determine if education, including 3D heart models improved novice nurse readiness to care for NICU patients with CHD and if parental understanding improves after receiving education with 3D heart models.

Methods— This was a plan-do-study-act (PDSA) …

Data-Driven Prediction Of Concrete Bridge Deck Corrosion Using Ground Penetrating Radar (Gpr), Nafisa Shafiullah Jan 2026

Data-Driven Prediction Of Concrete Bridge Deck Corrosion Using Ground Penetrating Radar (Gpr), Nafisa Shafiullah

Civil Engineering Theses

Corrosion detection remains a crucial factor in the proper maintenance of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures. While several studies have used Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for corrosion detection, quantitative models for prediction are still limited. This study presents an approach for the quantitative prediction of rebar corrosion in concrete using GPR data obtained from a prior experimental program involving accelerated corrosion. A total of 36 RC samples were cast, varying in cover depth, rebar diameter, and concrete porosity. The samples were subjected to an impressed current of 0.65 A in a 5% NaCl solution over three phases: 10, 20, and 30 …

Study Of Clustering Technique And Communication Topologies For Cooperative Control-Based Volt-Var Optimization, Gaurav Yadav, Yuan Liao, Dan M. Ionel Jan 2026

Study Of Clustering Technique And Communication Topologies For Cooperative Control-Based Volt-Var Optimization, Gaurav Yadav, Yuan Liao, Dan M. Ionel

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Introducing renewable distributed generation (DG) in the power distribution system causes rapid voltage fluctuations due to its intermittency. This intermittency renders conventional voltage regulation devices such as on-load tap changers (OLTCs) and capacitor banks (CBs) inefficient to regulate rapid voltage changes and leads to reduced equipment lifetime and high operation and maintenance costs. Hence, this calls for non-conventional methods to mitigate such voltage fluctuations. This paper presents a cooperative control-based method aimed to optimally control the reactive power of DG inverters to mitigate the voltage deviations by establishing communication among the DG nodes, and between DG and non-DG nodes. This …

Examining The Paradoxical Effects Of Benevolent Sexism, Serena Rose Bonomo Jan 2026

Examining The Paradoxical Effects Of Benevolent Sexism, Serena Rose Bonomo

Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-

Benevolent sexism can be flattering on the surface, though is based on and perpetuates the same stereotypes as hostile sexism (Glick & Fiske, 1996; 1997). Research has demonstrated benevolent sexism exposure increases body shame in adult women, however this effect remains largely unexplained. The current study investigated the mediating effects of self-objectification (viewing oneself as an object) and system justification beliefs (believing that society is just and fair) to explain the positive relationship between exposure to benevolent sexism and body shame. Using an experimental paradigm, this study exposed a sample of adult women in the United States (N = 152) …

Elli’S Liquid Flow In A Wavy Channel With Slip Effect, Wall Properties, And Heat Transfer, P. Devaki, Yatin Sood Jan 2026

Elli’S Liquid Flow In A Wavy Channel With Slip Effect, Wall Properties, And Heat Transfer, P. Devaki, Yatin Sood

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The dual behavior of Elli’s fluid motivated us to work on it. The fluid behaves as both Newtonian/ non-Newtonian based on the low and high shear rates, respectively. The paper focused on the flow of Ellis fluid in a peristaltic channel with wall properties and heat transfer. The channel is symmetric in nature, and slip conditions are considered near the elastic walls. The governing equations of the flow are solved analytically using suitable boundary conditions, which yield velocity and temperature functions. The novelty of the paper is to analyze the nature of Newtonian/non-Newtonian fluids under the same conditions so that …

The Kids Are Alright: A Preliminary Investigation Of The Effectiveness Of A Microaggression Training Series For Adolescents, Brea M. Banks, Bianca Sierra, Khyati Verma, Giselle Rivera

Faculty Publications – Psychology

Microaggressions are identity-based indignities that lead to significant negative consequences for receivers. Although most research has focused on the microaggressive experiences of adults, adolescents experience these transgressions in schools, and they find these experiences offensive. As such, preparing high school students to address microaggressions when they receive or witness them and to respond appropriately when they receive feedback about their microaggressive behaviour is imperative. Using a quasi-experimental design, we conducted a preliminary investigation of the effectiveness of a microintervention training for adolescents at a high school in the Midwestern United States. The intervention was effective in producing improvement in assessed …

“I Have Already Lost My Kids”: Mothering Experiences Of Women In Jail, Bothwell Piason, Dawn Beichner-Thomas Jan 2026

“I Have Already Lost My Kids”: Mothering Experiences Of Women In Jail, Bothwell Piason, Dawn Beichner-Thomas

Faculty Publications - Criminal Justice Sciences

Although women represent a small proportion of the incarcerated population globally, their rate of incarceration in the United States has increased dramatically over the past four decades, outpacing that of men. As carceral trends return to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, jail populations continue to rise, with most incarcerated women being mothers of young children. Yet, research on motherhood behind bars has largely focused on prisons rather than jails. This study explores the mothering experiences of women incarcerated in two U.S. Midwestern jails, including both pretrial detainees and sentenced individuals. Using qualitative data from in-depth interviews with jailed mothers, the analysis examines …

Always Elsewhere: Constitutional Rights In Ccr, Audrey Macklin, Josh Blum Jan 2026

Always Elsewhere: Constitutional Rights In Ccr, Audrey Macklin, Josh Blum

The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

The Canada-United States Safe Third Country Agreement (“STCA”) requires refugee claimants travelling overland to seek protection in the first country of arrival as between Canada and the United States. The Federal Court determined that the United States’ detention practices did not comply with minimum human rights standards, such that Canada breached section 7 obligations to the applicant refugee claimants by deflecting them back to the United States. The Federal Court of Appeal overturned the decision, and the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed the appeal. The authors review the CCR judgment and present it as a cautionary tale about how a …

Prescribing Plenary Powers:The Evolution And Intersection Of Criminal Andhealth Jurisdiction In Canadian Federalism, Benjamin Perryman

The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

Using the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decision in Murray-Hall v. Québec (Attorney General) as a focal point, this paper tracks the evolution and intersection of the federal criminal law power and the provincial health law power in Canadian federalism cases. Part II of the paper examines existing methods used to prescribe plenary powers, including interpretative narrowing (formalism), expansion of concurrent federalism (double aspect), and purpose review (colourability). The paper shows that the Supreme Court of Canada has applied these prescriptions to the federal criminal law power but rarely to the provincial health law power. Part III looks around the …

From Margarine To Cannabis:The Ongoing Evolution Of The Criminal Law Power, Asha Kaushal, Robert Danay

The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

This paper examines the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Murray-Hall v. Quebéc (Attorney General), upholding Québec’s restrictions on personal cultivation and possession of cannabis despite federal legalization. This decision is contextualized within a broader empirical analysis of the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence on the criminal law power under section 91(27) of the Constitution Act, 1867. By systematically reviewing Supreme Court cases from the Margarine Reference to Murray-Hall, the authors identify two trends: (1) increasing judicial deference to provincial legislative jurisdiction in criminal law matters since the enactment of the Charter, and (2) a continued judicial willingness to limit federal jurisdiction …

Perspective, And Perspectives, On Police Powers, Steve Coughlan Jan 2026

Perspective, And Perspectives, On Police Powers, Steve Coughlan

The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

R. v. Zacharias is a complex, and on one important issue inconclusive, decision about the extent of police powers and the balance between individual rights and societal interests. The case decided that the “reasonable grounds” justifying a warrantless arrest could not include any information which had been obtained unlawfully. This rule had been long-established with regard to search warrants but had been the subject of conflicting decisions in lower courts in the case of arrests. Zacharias leaves no doubt that arrests which occur due to prior Charter breaches will be a further breach — a “consequential” breach — of the …

Genetic Determinants Associated With Persistence Of Listeria Species And Background Microflora From A Dairy Processing Environment, Vaishali Poswal, Sanjeev Anand, Jose L. Gonzalez-Hernandez, Brian Kraus Jan 2026

Genetic Determinants Associated With Persistence Of Listeria Species And Background Microflora From A Dairy Processing Environment, Vaishali Poswal, Sanjeev Anand, Jose L. Gonzalez-Hernandez, Brian Kraus

Dairy Science and Food Science Faculty Publications: 2022 to Present

Listeria monocytogenes is a persistent foodborne pathogen capable of surviving in food processing environments, often in association with diverse environmental microflora. This study examines genomic determinants of persistence, specifically stress adaptation and biofilm-associated traits, in environmental Listeria species and other environmental microflora from a dairy processing facility by analyzing whole-genome sequences of 6 environmental Listeria isolates, 4 ATCC reference strains, and 22 air and floor swab cultures, annotated using the RAST platform. Subsystem analysis revealed that Listeria isolates carried a defined set of genes linked to biofilm formation, antimicrobial resistance, and stress response, though in lower abundance than environmental cultures. …

Role Of The Impella Device In Cardiac Catheterization, Madison Adams Jan 2026

Role Of The Impella Device In Cardiac Catheterization, Madison Adams

Student Research Poster Presentations 2026

The Impella device is a form of temporary mechanical circulatory support increasingly used in the cardiac catheterization lab to assist patients undergoing high-risk procedures or experiencing severe cardiac dysfunction. This project explores how the Impella functions, when it is to be used, and the role of the radiologic technologist in supporting these procedures. The device is inserted percutaneously, most commonly through the femoral artery, and works by drawing blood from the left ventricle and expelling it into the ascending aorta. Therefore, the device is improving cardiac output and reducing the myocardial workload in total. Careful patient selection, monitoring, and management …

Brightness And Distance Of The Stars: Phone And Phyphox, Larry Browning, Kay Cutler Jan 2026

Brightness And Distance Of The Stars: Phone And Phyphox, Larry Browning, Kay Cutler

Astronomy Activities

How bright a star appears to an observer on earth and what color or colors make up its light can tell a lot about a star. The brightness offers a clue to how far away a star is. The color indicates how hot the star is. Together they may suggest the size of a star. Examining the details of the star light with a spectroscope shows the various colors that come from the star and indicates the very specific colors that are muted or missing, as well as those that are brighter than expected (absorption and emission spectra). This gives …

Teacher's Use Of Google Classroom, David Hodgin Jan 2026

Teacher's Use Of Google Classroom, David Hodgin

CGU Theses & Dissertations

This dissertation investigates the teachers’ use of features in Google Classroom and the factors influencing their integration, using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the theoretical framework. Learning management systems like Google Classroom are commonplace in modern classrooms. A significant gap remains in understanding whether educators move beyond basic administrative functions to use features that support higher-order pedagogical goals, such as collaboration and differentiation. This study used a quantitative-based survey that sampled pre-pandemic K-12 educators, which examined external variables such as demographic, professional, training, and technology use, along with TAM constructs – perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, …
