Teaching Principles Of Macroeconomics In One Equation Jan 2026

Teaching Principles Of Macroeconomics In One Equation

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

We leverage the quantity theory of money in teaching because it represents well the big picture of macroeconomics and the relationships between key macroeconomic variables, providing a simple intuition and unified framework. To spark interest, we design authentic learning activities that begin with the opening minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) press conference. Then, we illustrate in a simple classroom experiment how quantity theory works and why it relates to the FOMC decisions. To further equip students with macro data interpretation skills, we assign group presentations on economic outlook for non-US countries.

The Abcs Of Modified Bond Duration And Wxyzs Of Bond Convexity Jan 2026

The Abcs Of Modified Bond Duration And Wxyzs Of Bond Convexity

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

By breaking the mathematical derivation of Macaulay Duration, Modified Duration, and Bond Convexity into smaller easily calculated component parts, a more manageable means of calculation for these bond measures emerges for the student. Further, an Excel spreadsheet or an algorithm within a programming language can also be implemented using these smaller component calculations. The Excel template provided can be made into an assignment or used as a resource for the student.

An Empirical Implementation Of A Two-Standard-Deviation Investment Signaling Framework Across Multiple Asset Classes Jan 2026

An Empirical Implementation Of A Two-Standard-Deviation Investment Signaling Framework Across Multiple Asset Classes

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

This paper presents a pedagogically driven application of a quantitative investment signaling model based on two standard deviation bands. Deviations beyond the two standard deviation range are interpreted as potential mean reversion signals, triggering tactical shifts in asset allocation or trading actions. Students construct the models in Excel using live market data, overlaying asset returns against calculated deviation bands to inform decisions. The firsthand approach emphasizes applied learning and critical thinking, with students analyzing model results and presenting empirical findings. Evidence suggests this experiential method significantly enhances student engagement, comprehension, and retention of investment strategy concepts across diverse financial settings

Coase, Thaler, And Behavioral Economics: Methodological Considerations Jan 2026

Coase, Thaler, And Behavioral Economics: Methodological Considerations

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

In their experiments to measure the endowment effect in market settings, Kahneman, Knetsch, and Thaler (1990; hereafter KKT) assessed the assumption of zero transaction costs associated with the Coase theorem. Their study recruited a sample of advanced undergraduate economics students who were placed in a market setting using coffee mugs as real-world goods, under conditions in which there were zero transaction costs. Their results suggested that an endowment effect lowered trading volume, which should not have occurred if Coase theorem worked in practice. We reexamine the research design employed by KKT, as well as their study’s statistical analysis and results.

From Didactics To Learning Tamazight (Kabyle) Using A Model Text, Nora Belgasmiya Jan 2026

From Didactics To Learning Tamazight (Kabyle) Using A Model Text, Nora Belgasmiya

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

This article addresses the shift of Tamazight to written practices and proposes a one-month teaching project to develop written production in Kabyle through a narrative model text. It discusses Amazigh-speaking learners’ difficulties in moving beyond orality, the need to appropriate writing norms (grammar, lexicon, and textual organization), and the value of competency-based progression. By drawing on text typology and language functions, the paper shows how sustained exercises can ‘regulate’ oral thinking into written discourse, fostering structured texts while contributing to much-needed pedagogical resources for Tamazight.

Private Equity, Public Utility, Kristen Van De Biezendos, Melissa Powers Jan 2026

Private Equity, Public Utility, Kristen Van De Biezendos, Melissa Powers

Faculty Scholarship

The explosion of investment in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies has spurred a data center boom, with politicians jostling to attract companies to build data centers in their states. The potential financial windfall from these data centers has also attracted the attention of private equity firms, which are seeking to capitalize on the potential riches to be made in supplying these projects with electricity by buying regulated public electric utilities. These utilities are unusual in our capitalist system, in that they are subject to both state and federal regulation regarding their duties to serve the public and the amount they can …

Platform Privileges: A Framework For How Antitrust Law Should Police Digital Platforms’ Use Of Material Non-Public Information, Eric H. Siemens Jan 2026

Platform Privileges: A Framework For How Antitrust Law Should Police Digital Platforms’ Use Of Material Non-Public Information, Eric H. Siemens

Missouri Law Review

Where the Gilded Age Rockefeller oil monopoly once spurred antitrust reforms in the United States, the tech giants of Silicon Valley have ignited a similar frenzy for reform in legislators and populist scholars today. The unprecedented and rapid growth of digital platforms such as Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon has forced policymakers to confront the question of whether traditional antitrust law is sufficient to deal with the new-age giants. This has spurred calls on both sides of the political aisle for increased antitrust enforcement, leading Missouri Senator Josh Hawley to go as far as to argue that “[t]he Big Tech …

House Of Cards: An Examination Of Missouri’S Inconsistent Tax Assessment Regime And The Questionable Role Of The Court As Arbiter, Isabel Fenoglio Jan 2026

House Of Cards: An Examination Of Missouri’S Inconsistent Tax Assessment Regime And The Questionable Role Of The Court As Arbiter, Isabel Fenoglio

Missouri Law Review

“Taxes are what we pay for civilized society.” No one has offered a simpler rationale for the American tax system than the former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Despite their inevitability, taxes remain universally dreaded and misunderstood by Americans, but none more so than property taxes. Without property taxes, life as everyday Americans understand it would cease to exist. From streets to schools, from libraries to fire departments, the budgets of indispensable public services, which enable communities to flourish, would collapse.

Pickering And Choosing: The Positive Outcome Of An Eighth Circuit Ruling Among The Chaotic World Of Government Employee Free Speech, Luke M. Severt Jan 2026

Pickering And Choosing: The Positive Outcome Of An Eighth Circuit Ruling Among The Chaotic World Of Government Employee Free Speech, Luke M. Severt

Missouri Law Review

Public employees do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the workplace gate. Nor do they shed them when they log on to their computer to send an email to their co-workers, superiors, or similar fellow government employees. In Mayfield v. Missouri House of Representatives, the Eighth Circuit undertook a multistep analysis to determine whether the defendant, as a public employer, violated the constitutional rights of its longtime employee, Tad Mayfield, when it terminated him only three days after he sent an email to state legislature leaders asking them to implement a mask mandate to …

Back To Basics: Statutory Interpretation And The Demise Of The Dol’S Tip Credit Rule After Loper Bright, William T. Perryman Jan 2026

Back To Basics: Statutory Interpretation And The Demise Of The Dol’S Tip Credit Rule After Loper Bright, William T. Perryman

Missouri Law Review

The Fifth Circuit recently delivered a significant blow to the Department of Labor’s (“DOL”) regulatory authority in Restaurant Law Center v. U.S. Department of Labor, which vacated a rule delineating the permissible scope of non-tip-producing work for employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for employers claiming a “tip credit.” The challenged regulation—often referred to as the “80/20 rule” with a “30-minute rule” addendum—sought to limit the amount of non-tip-producing work a tipped employee could perform if the employer claimed a tip credit. What renders this decision particularly notable is the Fifth Circuit’s relatively swift invalidation of a long-standing …

Breaking Up The Dog Fight: Restoring Order To Supplemental Jurisdiction After Wullschleger, Lucas Reed Jan 2026

Breaking Up The Dog Fight: Restoring Order To Supplemental Jurisdiction After Wullschleger, Lucas Reed

Missouri Law Review

In 2024, the United States had a “jurisdictional dog fight” on its hands; one between a defendant’s right to access federal courts through removal and a plaintiff’s status as “master of the complaint.” At stake was not mere technical procedure but the very balance between state and federal authority. When defendants began removing cases with embedded federal questions to federal court only to have plaintiffs amend their complaints to eliminate federal “hooks,” the resulting legal battle would test the boundaries of precedent and the logic governing forum selection. Royal Canin U.S.A., Inc. v. Wullschleger provided such a test.

Five blinded comparator arms produced recommendations: a human expert, Non-RAG-GPT-4, Non-RAG-GPT-5, RAG-GPT-4, and RAG-GPT-5. Eight head and neck oncologic surgeons scored each recommendation for appropriateness, clarity, specificity, and feasibility using 5-point Likert scales. Paired permutation testing and inter-rater reliability were assessed.

RESULTS: LLM outputs showed close alignment with expert recommendations. RAG-based …

Digital Replica For Trustworthy Cooperative Autonomous Vehicles, Hady Farahat Jan 2026

Digital Replica For Trustworthy Cooperative Autonomous Vehicles, Hady Farahat

Theses and Dissertations

Trust in an automated system can be defined as confidence in a vehicle's reliability, safety, and predictability, which is essential for the acceptance and widespread adoption of fully autonomous vehicles (FAVs); without it, users might disengage from using autonomous vehicles or reject the technology altogether. Most of the previous research has focused on trust from an ego vehicle perspective.

However, next-generation vehicles are becoming more autonomous and connected, relying on vehicle-to-vehicle technology and vehicle-to-infrastructure technology with no human intervention. Hence, trust becomes more complex and fragile as multiple agents interact with each other, and it might become harder to establish …

Electronic Transport In Twisted Bilayer Tungsten Diselenides, Walid Zaher Jan 2026

Electronic Transport In Twisted Bilayer Tungsten Diselenides, Walid Zaher

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates density waves (DWs) in twisted bilayer tungsten diselenide (tWSe₂) using a mean field approximation, with a focus on electron-electron interactions, and the system’s free energy at zero temperature. For the mean field approximation, the study initially employed same-spin nesting vectors, which were found insufficient to induce DWs formation. In contrast, when opposite-spin nesting vectors were used, DWs emerged, indicating that these vectors can support DWs formation. The plots were produced under perfect nesting conditions, where van Hove singularities (VHS) occur. At zero temperature, perfect nesting provides a complete picture of the upper limit of DWs formation, as …

A Virtual-Reality-Based Dental Simulator For Endodontics With Automated Formative Feedback, Yousef Salah Abo El Ela

Theses and Dissertations

Advancements in virtual reality (VR) and haptic technology are transforming the landscape of medical and dental education, offering new avenues for safe, immersive, and repeatable training experiences. Within dentistry, endodontics presents unique challenges for preclinical education due to anatomical complexity, limited access to extracted teeth, ethical concerns, and the shortcomings of conventional plastic models. Despite endodontics specific plastic teeth being available, they fall short of replicating the hardness of real extracted teeth, are relatively costly compared to generic plastic teeth, and are ultimately a disposable item which makes them inadequate as a sustainable long-term solution. Extracted teeth do a much …
