Integrating Complementary Practices Into Caregiver Training For Community Stroke Rehabilitation: A Pre–Post Study In Thailand, Naphatsaran Roekruangrit, Sirinun Treemongkolthip, Watchara Damjuti
Journal of Health Research
Background: After formal rehabilitation, Thai stroke survivors often depend on community caregivers who may lack training for ongoing recovery. Integrating culturally familiar complementary practices into caregiver education could strengthen home-based rehabilitation. This study aimed to develop a caregiver health program integrating complementary medicine for stroke care and evaluate its effects on caregiver knowledge and patient functional ability in the community.
Methods: This two-phase study was conducted in Pathum Thani, Thailand. Phase I involved community-based participatory development, including stakeholder engagement, situational analysis, focus groups, and a workshop. Phase II was a single-group pre–post quasi-experimental trial. Twenty caregivers completed a 5-day training …

User-Driven Ai Model Context Restoration Based On Message Indexing, Aakash Phoughat
Defensive Publications Series
In long conversations, a chatbot powered by a large language model (LLM) may start to exhibit inaccurate responses or hallucinations due to context saturation. To continue the conversation, the user needs to identify the point of likely errors and initiate a separate conversation that includes the appropriate context by copy-pasting content or other manual actions. This disclosure presents techniques for context restoration with message indexing to address this problem. Per techniques described herein, conversation turns between a user and an AI model accessed via a chatbot interface are indexed and message indexes are displayed to the user. If the output …

Skrmetti And The Problem Of Incidental Intent, Martin J. Katz
Skrmetti And The Problem Of Incidental Intent, Martin J. Katz
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
The modern Supreme Court has defined “discriminatory intent” as a strict-liability concept. It does not matter why the government sorts people by a protected characteristic, such as race or sex; it matters only that the government does sort people by such a characteristic. This principle is the key holding of affirmative-action cases, such as Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. Yet, in the recent case United States v. Skrmetti, the Court seemed to focus not on the question of whether the government sorted people by sex (it did), but on the question …

Critical Student Agency In An Integrated Social Studies Unit, Bolaji Bamidele, Kristin A. Searle
Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences Student Research
Background: Research has highlighted the value of centering student voices and agency in classroom contexts, yet few curricula explicitly foreground critical agency in their design. This qualitative case study examines how students enact agency within an integrated curriculum that combines computer science, social studies, and Indian Education for All (IEFA) standards. The unit focused on tribal sovereignty and why treaties still matter for indigenous people today, enabling students to connect their lived experiences to broader sociopolitical contexts. Data were collected through classroom observations, student and teacher interviews, and student artifacts. Results: Analysis revealed that students performed agency in three interrelated …

Including technology in the accounting curriculum encourages the adoption of active learning whereby students explore accounting from an individualized manner that better engages students, motivates them to problem solve, and hopefully, allows them to enjoy the learning process and gain more from it. From a curriculum planning standpoint, the introduction of active learning-based technology curriculums also provides information about the perceptions students have about themselves, the accounting profession, and the role technology plays in accounting. Collectively, all this information can be used to guide student interest in accounting as an academic major.

Department of Pediatrics Faculty Papers
IMPORTANCE: Pediatric hypertension remains underrecognized despite its high prevalence (approximately 5%) and long-term cardiovascular implications. Although guidelines for screening and diagnosis exist, less than 25% of affected children are diagnosed, and more than half do not receive timely follow-up care. Clinician-specific implementation barriers and directly informed strategies, which may alleviate this gap, are insufficiently described.
OBJECTIVE: To identify clinician-reported barriers and actionable recommendations to improve pediatric hypertension detection and follow-up in primary care using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted between November 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, with health care …

Daily Coping Strategies, Unmet Needs And Daily Health Outcomes Among Family Caregivers Of Persons Living With Alzheimer's Disease And Related Dementias, Henrietta Armah Bennett
ETDs from 2020-2029
Providing care for an individual with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) is considered the most stressful type of family caregiving that impacts caregivers’ health. More than one in five ADRD family caregivers report their overall health as poor to fair. These adverse health outcomes are often exacerbated when caregivers’ emotional, informational, and practical needs remain unmet throughout the caregiving trajectory. Numerous studies have shown that the ways in which caregivers cope to caregiving-related stressors significantly shape their health outcomes. Despite this evidence, a clear and consistent understanding of caregivers’ own appraisals of their unmet needs, coping strategies and mental …

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Transforming Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cell Treatment For Solid Tumors, Stephen O'Rourke, Nuo Xu, Hongjun Wang, Hexin Chen
Faculty Publications
The emergence of effective immunotherapies has drastically revolutionized clinical management of many cancer types. Among them, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy (CTT), as a groundbreaking approach, has been considered as a “living drug,” displaying unprecedented clinical outcomes with hematological malignancies, including B cell leukemia and lymphomas, and multiple myeloma. Despite the high remission rates and improved survival achieved with hematological cancers, the effectiveness of CTT in solid tumors remains largely unsatisfactory. The efficacy of CTT in solid tumors is significantly challenged by multiple factors, including tumor-antigen heterogeneity, limited T cell trafficking and infiltration, a highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and …

Debt’S Dominion: A New Epilogue, David Skeel
BYU Law Review
This Essay, written for the “Who Governs Debt’s Dominion” symposium, looks back on Debt’s Dominion: A History of Bankruptcy Law in America as the twenty-fifth anniversary of the book’s publication nears. The Essay begins, in Part I, by briefly describing how Debt’s Dominion came about. Part II identifies and seeks to explain a striking decline in optimism about American bankruptcy law since Debt’s Dominion was first published. Part III explores a few of the major recent developments in consumer bankruptcy, small business bankruptcy, and large-scale corporate reorganization that I would have analyzed in the book if it were written today. …

Green Rules, Fragmented Fields: Member-State Approaches To Sustainability In Eu Competition Law, Niccolò Galli, Armando Santoni
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
This article provides a comparative, normative-evaluative examination of how sustainability is being incorporated into European competition law. Combining doctrinal legal analysis with economic reasoning, it clarifies competing definitions of sustainability, maps the contest between the consumer-welfare paradigm and sustainability proponents, and evaluates the legal and institutional implications of the Commission’s 2023 Horizontal Cooperation Guidelines. Drawing on national initiatives across Member States plus the UK, the study highlights contrasting instruments, from Austria’s statutory environmental exemption to the Dutch soft-law safe harbour and Greece’s experimental sustainability sandbox, and shows how these divergent approaches produce fragmentation and legal uncertainty for cross-border cooperative initiatives. …

We present constraints on low-mass dark matter electron scattering and absorption interactions using a SuperCDMS high-voltage eV-resolution (HVeV) detector. Data were taken underground in the NEXUS facility located at Fermilab with an overburden of 225 meters of water equivalent. The experiment benefits from the minimizing of luminescence from the printed circuit boards in the detector holder used in all previous HVeV studies. A blind analysis of 6.1 g·days of exposure produces exclusion limits for dark matter-electron scattering cross sections for masses as low as 1 MeV/c2, as well as on the photon-dark photon mixing parameter and the coupling …
Does Deference To Religious Authority Predict Support For Political Violence?, John W. Compton, Ann Gordon
Does Deference To Religious Authority Predict Support For Political Violence?, John W. Compton, Ann Gordon
Political Science Faculty Articles and Research
Does deference to religious authority undermine support for democratic norms, including those forbidding the use of violence for political ends? Scholars have struggled to answer this question, in part, we believe, because they have typically employed proxies for religious deference (e.g. Biblical literalism, worship attendance, and self-reported religiosity) instead of measuring it directly. We develop a new measure of deference to religious authority in politics (DRAP), using the 2024 Chapman Survey of American Fears. We find that (1) DRAP is strongly correlated with support for political violence; (2) other common measures of religiosity (e.g. Biblical literalism and self-reported religiosity) are …

The role of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in modulating responses to antiestrogen therapy in hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancers remains unclear. We analyzed pre- and on-treatment biopsies from patients with HR+ breast cancer treated with letrozole to induce estrogen deprivation (ED). Stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, assessed by H&E staining, and immune-related gene sets, including IFN-γ signaling genes, measured by RNA-Seq, were increased in ED-resistant tumors. Cyclic immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptomics revealed an abundance of CD8+ T cells and enhanced antigen processing and immune gene signatures in ED-resistant tumors. In this group, the expression of CXCL9, CXCL10, and CXCL11 - chemokine …

The Chronic Apical Abscess: A Case Report On A Diagnostic Dilemma, Jonathan Hope, Guy Lambourn, Ewen Mccoll, Casper Jonker
Peninsula Dental School
A chronic apical abscess is an endodontic condition commonly characterised by the presence of a notable sinus tract through which pus periodically discharges. In general, these cases can be considered “straight forward” to diagnose but on some occasions, diagnosis can be challenging. Any misdiagnosis can compromise the treatment approach for the patient and lead to adverse outcomes such as unnecessary biopsies or referrals. Therefore, clinicians should follow a meticulous treatment approach consisting of appropriate diagnostic measures to establish the correct diagnosis and treatment pathway.
