Biometric-Based Dynamic Adjustment Of Vehicle Dynamics And Adas Parameters, Anonymous Feb 2026

Biometric-Based Dynamic Adjustment Of Vehicle Dynamics And Adas Parameters, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

The present disclosure describes a vehicle control system that utilizes occupant anxiety metrics—derived from in-vehicle sensors, mobile devices, and wearables—to modify the operational parameters of chassis control and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). When high levels of anxiety or stress are detected in the driver or passengers, the system shifts vehicle calibrations toward more conservative profiles. This includes reducing allowable wheel slip and yaw error, increasing suspension damping for stability, increasing ADAS following distances, and initiating earlier braking maneuvers. The system further enables ride-share integration, allowing a passenger’s wearable device to communicate anxiety levels to the vehicle to influence ride …

The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy Feb 2026

The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides unpaid, job‑protected leave only for eligible workers, and rules tied to hours, tenure, and employer size often exclude mothers working part-time. Research on U.S. family and medical leave has documented inequities in access to job protections. The lived experiences of African American/Black mothers navigating this gap remain underrepresented. The purpose of this narrative qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of African American/Black mothers who worked part-time without mandated job protections, with specific attention to FMLA. General systems theory provided the theoretical framework, and an Afrocentric paradigm centered African/African American/Black voice …

Staff Education To Improve Timely Intake Response And Follow-Up Communication, Evelyn Noel Feb 2026

Staff Education To Improve Timely Intake Response And Follow-Up Communication, Evelyn Noel

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A lack of staff knowledge regarding timely intake response and follow-up communication processes resulted in inconsistent management of client follow-up at the private mental health clinic in Florida. This gap in practice guided the practice-focused question: Does educating mental health clinical staff on timely intake response and follow-up communication improve staff knowledge in managing client follow-up processes in a private mental health clinic, as evidenced by pre- and post-surveys? This educational initiative employed the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) model, the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model, the Walden University DNP Project Checklist, and the DNP Project Process …

Increasing Knowledge And Awareness In Mental Health Assessments Among Nurses, Valerie Jiles-Brown

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Mental health conditions affect 59 million individuals annually in the United States, translating to one in every four adults. Given this, mental health has emerged as a critical component of an individual’s overall health and well-being, with nurses being pivotal in identifying and addressing mental health concerns. However, research indicates that nurses often lack the knowledge and awareness to conduct mental health assessments. Thus, the purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to determine if an educational intervention focused on mental health assessments increased knowledge and awareness among nurses working in a local organization. A total of …

Staff Education To Medical Surgical Nurses On Structured Discharge Checklist, Johnmary Odinigwe Feb 2026

Staff Education To Medical Surgical Nurses On Structured Discharge Checklist, Johnmary Odinigwe

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Inconsistent discharge practices among medical-surgical nurses contribute to communication gaps, patient confusion, and preventable adverse outcomes following hospital discharge. Nurses, as frontline providers of discharge education, play a critical role in ensuring safe and effective transitions of care. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addressed a practice gap in nurses’ knowledge of implementing a structured discharge checklist. The purpose of this staff education project was to evaluate whether a structured discharge checklist education program would improve medical-surgical nurses’ knowledge of standardized discharge education practices. A pretest–posttest design was used to assess changes in knowledge among 36 medical-surgical nurses. Participants …

Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

Species must acclimate, shift their distributions, or adapt in place in response to anthropogenic climate change. Populations at low-latitude trailing edges of species distributions typically experience thermal conditions closest to the upper limit of their thermoregulatory capacity. Landscape and functional genomic approaches provide quantitative measures of risk and adaptive capacity which can inform and prioritize conservation actions. Using low-coverage whole genomes from Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis), we characterized population genomic structure and identified putatively adaptive loci using genotype-environment association analyses across the eastern extent of their distribution. We detected genetic breaks across two previously identified biogeographical barriers, the St. Lawrence …

Factors Influencing Academic Recovery In Mathematics In Middle School Students After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Jon A. Debord Feb 2026

Factors Influencing Academic Recovery In Mathematics In Middle School Students After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Jon A. Debord

Student Dissertations

The COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread disruption to K–12 education, with middle school mathematics among the most adversely affected subject areas. While prior research has documented pandemic-related learning loss, less is known about how recovery occurred in districts where mathematics performance rebounded. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore middle school mathematics teachers’ perceptions of factors influencing post-pandemic academic recovery in selected Illinois public school districts that demonstrated high levels of mathematics recovery. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory, this study examined how classroom, school, family, and district contexts shaped students’ recovery experiences. A basic qualitative research design was …

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher Feb 2026

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The paper investigates the potential effects of CEO duality—where the CEO also chairs the board—on environmental efficiency in Chinese listed companies between 2015 and 2024. Energy intensity, or total energy use per unit of revenue, serves as a stand-in for environmental efficiency. In the full sample, CEO duality is consistently linked to higher energy intensity (≈19–27 units; p< 0.01) using firm, year, and (in the pooled models) sector fixed effects with firm-clustered standard errors, suggesting lower environmental efficiency under unified leadership. In line with creditor discipline, market capitalization is typically negative and substantial, headcount is positive, and leverage (Net Debt/EBITDA) is negative. Moderation tests reveal that leverage significantly reduces the duality–inefficiency link (Duality×Leverage ≈ −0.49; p< 0.05), while interactions with board conflicts, working capital, gender diversity, and disclosure/independence are statistically insignificant.

The study uses an instrumental-variable estimation to account for potential endogeneity, where CEO duality may itself be influenced by unobserved firm characteristics or past performance. Diagnostic tests (Anderson LM, Cragg–Donald F, and Sargan) confirm that the instrument, which is based on …

Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of Referral Completeness, Tamekia T. Lindsay Thompson Feb 2026

Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of Referral Completeness, Tamekia T. Lindsay Thompson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education project addressed a practice gap in a psychiatric facility where nonclinical staff frequently submitted incomplete referral documentation for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Due to the facility’s inability to provide acute medical stabilization, medical clearance is required before nurse practitioners can determine admission appropriateness. The project question was, Does educating intake staff on a standardized referral checklist improve knowledge of referral criteria, as measured by pre- and post-education surveys? The Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model informed evidence translation, and the analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model underpinned the development and evaluation …

From Commonality To Unity: The Opportunities And Challenges Of Latinxs’ Cross-Racial Alliances With Blacks, Álvaro José Corral Feb 2026

From Commonality To Unity: The Opportunities And Challenges Of Latinxs’ Cross-Racial Alliances With Blacks, Álvaro José Corral

School of Political Science, Public Affairs, Legal and Security Studies Faculty Publications

As a racialized group that is subject to discrimination, US Latinxs are often considered “natural” coalitional partners for Black-led civil rights struggles. Although the BLM movement may serve as a potential site for cross-racial coalition building because both Latinxs and Blacks suffer from racial profiling by law enforcement, the development of a shared status across group boundaries hinges on the interpretation by Latinxs of both their personal- and group-level discrimination experiences. Using the 2020 CMPS, I explore how multiple dimensions of Latinx racial group consciousness (perceptions of discrimination, intra- and intergroup commonality, and racial identity) shape their cross-racial alliances with …
