Unexplained Inguinal Adenopathy Leading To The Diagnosis Of Metastatic High-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma, Olivia R. Kaufman, Ishita Agarwal, Morgan W. Stewart, Peighton E. Davis, Brett Dunbar

Student Publications

High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is the most common subtype of ovarian cancer, most commonly originating from the epithelium of the fallopian tube. In metastasis of HGSOC cells, there is a particular predilection for the omentum. Metastatic involvement of extraperitoneal lymph nodes, particularly the inguinal region, is rare and may pose a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of an 87-year-old female patient presenting with a right inguinal mass, in whom the pathology of the surgically removed mass confirmed the diagnosis of metastatic HGSOC, requiring oncological follow-up and management. This atypical pattern of spread underscores the importance of considering a …

Accepting The Invitation: Why The Nlrb's Decision On Northwestern University Football Players As Employees Would Be Different Today, Rachel Grimley Mar 2026

Accepting The Invitation: Why The Nlrb's Decision On Northwestern University Football Players As Employees Would Be Different Today, Rachel Grimley

Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal

This Note intersects labor, employment, and sports law by reexamining the 2015 National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Northwestern decision on the employee status of student-athletes in light of recent developments in sport and labor law jurisprudence. This Note critiques the rationale of the Northwestern decision under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and highlights pertinent Name Image and Likeness and NLRB jurisprudence that signify a shift in how the NLRB views this issue. It ultimately argues that student-athletes should be considered employees under Section 2(3) of the NLRA for purposes of collective bargaining with their respective universities.

It Shouldn’T Be Sexy: Exploring The Intersection Between Staged Intimacy And The Law, Spencer Darling

Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal

If your job requires you to passionately embrace your coworker after surviving the seat-riveting climax action of the third act, does that complicate your workplace’s sexual harassment prevention strategy? Most jobs do not require workers to make intentional intimate contact with their coworkers. Yet, in the entertainment industry, some jobs require not just intimate contact with coworkers but selling that contact as authentic. This staged intimacy, like staged violence, carries a risk that simulated conduct can result in real harm.

When produced without precaution, staged intimacy can create working conditions that constitute sexual harassment in violation of Title VII of …

How The States And The Ncaa Are Changing The Landscape Of Collegiate Name, Image, And Likeness Compensation, Carly Sirota

Denver Sports & Entertainment Law Journal

This Comment evaluates the recently enacted laws in California and Colorado which require universities in those states to allow student-athletes to receive compensation for their name, image, or likeness. When California first introduced this legislation, there was intense pushback from many in the intercollegiate community. However, less than a year after the bill was enacted, the NCAA’s Board of Governors has committed to changing their bylaws in compliance with the law. The Comment discusses some legal implications of the law for many student-athletes, especially female student-athletes, and how the NCAA should go beyond pay-to-play law compliance to create an equal …

Classification Of Land Cover In Sentinel-2 Imagery Using Machine Learning Models, Ehsan Ali Al-Zubaidi, Mohammed Ridha Hammoodi, Ahmed Naser Alzurfi Mar 2026

Classification Of Land Cover In Sentinel-2 Imagery Using Machine Learning Models, Ehsan Ali Al-Zubaidi, Mohammed Ridha Hammoodi, Ahmed Naser Alzurfi

Al-Bahir

Remote sensing data of medium resolution are commonly used to classify land cover, and machine learning (ML) models have taken on a central aspect in the necessary data analysis. Ordinarily, land cover is coded on a pixel basis on the basis of Digital Number (DN) values, which in turn are computed across several spectral bands. This paper is concerned with land cover mapping in Mosul, Iraq, based on satellite images captured by Sentinel-2. Two platforms featuring unsupervised classification algorithms were used, Google Earth Engine and ArcMap, making it possible to use K-means and X-means in Google Earth Engine and ISO …

The River Of Life In Flannery O'Connor's "The River", Abbi L. Peo Mar 2026

The River Of Life In Flannery O'Connor's "The River", Abbi L. Peo

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This thesis examines the role of the River in “The River” by Flannery O’Connor.  O’Connor’s fiction consistently explores the workings of grace and “The River” is no exception. In the story, the River functions as a metaphor for Christ’s grace. Most literary critics focus on the disconcerting drowning of the young protagonist, Harry Ashfield, an example of O’Connor’s signature use of the grotesque to facilitate her characters’ encounters with grace. However, this emphasis on Harry often obscures the broader role of the River within the narrative. When the story’s analysis is limited to Harry’s death, critics overlook how the River …

(W)Holistic Approaches: Empowering The Whole Of Child, Annette Johnson, Tiarnah Hamlin, Jack Lundie-Jenkins, Erin King, Karen Malyon, Jennifer Cartmel

International Journal of Playwork Practice

Holistic approaches are an evolving pedagogy in the Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) sector that, despite its recognised value, remain an elusive practice for many educators. This ambiguity has been acknowledged in My Time Our Place (MTOP): Framework for School Age Care in Australia 2.0 (AGDE, 2022). In alignment with this process, the ability for OSHC and extended learning to empower children’s self-identities is fundamental to supporting their holistic development. In a world emerging from the coronavirus pandemic, the ongoing impacts on children – the result of physical separation and societal stressors – cannot be ignored. Accordingly, the child’s …

Evaluating Runtime Monitoring For Reinforcement Learning-Based Flight Control, Andrew Zubyk Mar 2026

Evaluating Runtime Monitoring For Reinforcement Learning-Based Flight Control, Andrew Zubyk

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Ensuring safety in adaptive flight controls systems is an ongoing challenge in aviation, especially as advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) trend upwards. Reinforcement learning is becoming more common in aerospace applications due to the ability to improve these models through training.  While models such as reinforcement learning enable controllers to learn complex behaviors from interaction with the environment, their unpredictability in novel or disturbed conditions raises severe concerns in safety-critical domains. This research investigates the integration of runtime monitoring, a real-time assurance technique, with reinforcement learning-based flight controllers to ensure safety and reliability during flight. By supervising …

Computational Medicine Center Faculty Papers

Guidelines for managing scientific data have been established under the FAIR principles, requiring that data be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. In many scientific disciplines, especially computational biology, both data and models are key to progress. For this reason, and recognizing that such models are a very special type of "data", we argue that computational models, especially mechanistic models prevalent in medicine, physiology and systems biology, deserve a complementary set of guidelines. We propose the CURE principles, emphasizing that models should be Credible, Understandable, Reproducible, and Extensible. We delve into each principle, discussing verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification for model …
