Australia’s current housing crisis has made affordable housing increasingly unattainable for young Australians. Rising rents, insecure work, and limited government support have delayed independence, increased homelessness, and widened inequality, especially for those without family financial support. Since COVID-19, rent prices have surged nationwide, while studies show most young Australians feel financially insecure, pessimistic about home ownership, and concerned their future quality of life will decline. Housing Crisis: The Board Game is an artistic prototype which aims to address this wicked problem by raising awareness of the issue – and some empathy as well – to all Australians, with particular focus …

Sdn Controller For Distributed Quantum Computing, Firas Selmi
Sdn Controller For Distributed Quantum Computing, Firas Selmi
Masters Theses
Quantum networks promise transformative capabilities for computation [1], but current hardware remains limited; state-of-the-art quantum processors still operate with only a few hundred qubits [2], far below the scale required for practical applications. This limitation motivates the use of Distributed Quantum Computing (DQC), where computation is performed across multiple interconnected nodes. However, efficient DQC requires global network awareness and orchestration, a role analogous to Software-Defined Networking (SDN) in classical systems. In this work, we investigate the impact of SDN-inspired control logic on quantum networks by executing a scaled distributed implementation of Shor’s algorithm to factor N = 15 over a …
A New Lease On Life: Why Arkansas Needs An Implied Warranty Of Habitability, Mary-Kennedy Jackson
A New Lease On Life: Why Arkansas Needs An Implied Warranty Of Habitability, Mary-Kennedy Jackson
Arkansas Law Notes
The implied warranty of habitability is a legal obligation that every state except Arkansas has adopted. The implied warranty of habitability requires landlords to ensure that their rental properties are safe, sanitary, and habitable for tenants regardless of whether these requirements are explicitly stated in the lease. It requires a landlord to maintain their property, make necessary repairs, provide essential services, and ensure the property is free of pests and other hazards. Under the implied warranty of habitability, tenants are given recourse options when a violation of the required standard occurs.
Arkansas’s failure to adopt the habitability warranty leaves approximately …

Gopher: Efficient Dynamic Graph Pattern Mining Via Dag-Driven Execution, Yi Zhang, Yu Huang, Chaoqiang Liu, Haifeng Liu, Juntao Chen, Jingrui Yuan, Jianhui Yue, Xiaofei Liao, Hai Jin, Jingling Xue
Michigan Tech Publications
Graph pattern mining is essential for analyzing dynamic networks, where graphs evolve over time. To accommodate these changes, existing solutions update match sets incrementally, avoiding the need to re-mine the entire graph and achieving significant performance improvements. However, these methods suffer from inefficiencies due to redundant set intersection operations across subgraph instances, causing performance degradation. In this paper, we propose Gopher, a DAG-driven dynamic graph pattern mining system that leverages computation locality for enhanced performance. Gopher uses DAGs to represent set operations, identifying and merging common subexpressions at compile time. This reduces redundant computations during runtime. To maximize performance, we …
Bodyrevolt, Lauren Oliver
Bodyrevolt, Lauren Oliver
Theses
BodyRevolt examines the body as a mutable site shaped through performance, material intervention, and photographic mediation. Working across still and moving image, I stage choreographic interactions between my body and constructed forms—materials that function as both extensions and substitutions—destabilizing the notion of a fixed bodily truth. Through acts of sculpting, contortion, and repetition, I explore the tension between the body I inhabit and the body I imagine, using the camera not simply as a recording device but as an active participant in rehearsing transformation. Central to this inquiry is the construction of surrogate bodies, which offer a form of control …

Open Access Articles Funded by the University of Nebraska Open Access Publishing Agreements or the former UNO Open Access Fund
Steel sheet piles are widely used in bridge abutments to retain backfill and mitigate scour; recent applications and case histories also suggest that sheet piles may contribute to axial load resistance for short-span or low-traffic bridges. In this study, modified static axial pile loading tests were performed at a field test site using an instrumented half-scale (50%) model sheet pile to provide experimental evidence and mechanistic insight into axial load transfer under the tested configuration. The test pile was installed by placement in an excavated pit followed by sand backfilling and light compaction to protect instrumentation, and three axial loading …

From Storybooks To Courtrooms: A Corpus-Based Descriptive Analysis Of Culture-Specific Translation Strategies In Saudi Arabia, Saad Salem Alshamrani
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
This study investigates how translators navigate culture-specific items (CSIs) between Arabic and English across two contrasting domains: children's storybooks and courtroom materials in Saudi Arabia. It employs a corpus-based descriptive approach to examine authentic published translations drawn from selected Arabic children's storybooks and official courtroom materials available through the Saudi Ministry of Justice. This approach enables the study to identify patterns in translators' strategies and the contextual factors that shape them. The analysis reveals that translators in children's literature predominantly employ adaptation, paraphrase, and explicitness to ensure accessibility and reader engagement. In contrast, legal translators favor literal translation and functional …
The Toll Of The Bridge: Affective Citizenship And The Negative Dialectic Of The `Promised Land' In Arab American Fiction, Muhammad Khaled Alatrash
The Toll Of The Bridge: Affective Citizenship And The Negative Dialectic Of The `Promised Land' In Arab American Fiction, Muhammad Khaled Alatrash
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
Scholarship on Arab American literature frequently follows a linear decline from Mahjar-era optimism to the disappointments of post-9/11. This article complicates that trajectory by reading Khalil Gibran's The Broken Wings (1912) and Laila Halaby's Once in a Promised Land (2007) as stages of a negative dialectic—contradiction held in tension without resolution. Gibran envisions America as a sanctuary unreached by the hands of the thieves, where the self might be understood correctly rather than sorted into hostile categories. Halaby reveals how sanctuary becomes a checkpoint: inclusion demands permanent performance of harmlessness, and failure is punished not through formal exclusion but through …

Quality Improvement Project: Reimplementation Of Bedside Reporting, Veronicah Banga
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Communication breakdown during nursing shift handoffs is a major patient safety challenge in healthcare today. At the project site, 85% of handovers occurred at the central nursing station, and most staff nurses expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the bedside reporting. In psychiatric nursing, unique barriers exist that make bedside reporting challenging, including patient confidentiality and an individual's diagnosis. Such barriers eroded bedside reporting (BSR) over time, leading to measurable safety risks and nursing dissatisfaction. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to reintroduce bedside handoffs using the Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) framework and to maintain BSR …
Optical Mechanisms Behind Vitrinite Reflectance Suppression Caused By Strong Anisotropy: A Case Study Of Contact Metamorphic Coals, An Yanfei, He Shuyang, Chen Kaixin, Gao Junhan
Optical Mechanisms Behind Vitrinite Reflectance Suppression Caused By Strong Anisotropy: A Case Study Of Contact Metamorphic Coals, An Yanfei, He Shuyang, Chen Kaixin, Gao Junhan
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective For vitrinite with weak anisotropy, which proves uniaxial and optically negative, replacing random vitrinite reflectance (Rran) with the maximum vitrinite reflectance (Rmax) allows for the accurate correction of vitrinite reflectance suppression induced by anisotropy. However, as its anisotropy intensifies, vitrinite exhibits increasingly complex optical properties, rendering it challenging to reflect the thermal metamorphic temperature of vitrinite using Rmax. Methods This study investigated the strongly anisotropic vitrinite in coals and natural coke subjected to magma intrusion in the Shitai coal mine, Huaibei City, Anhui Province. Using a reflected-polarized light microscope (R-PLM), an …

A Cutting Trajectory Planning Technology Driven By Coal Seam Data In A Comprehensive Mining Face, Guo Yifeng, Xue Xusheng, Ma Hongwei, Zhang Guangming, Su Hao, Qi Ailing, Nie Zhen, Ma Kexiang, Wu Xuefei
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective Currently, the insufficient full-element digitization and the prevalence of “data silos” in fully mechanized mining faces (FMMF) result in poor cutting precision and operational instability of shearers under complex undulating and abrupt geological conditions. These factors pose significant challenges to high-precision proactive trajectory planning. Methods Guided by the academic philosophy that “mining is data acquisition”, this paper proposes a coal seam data-driven cutting trajectory planning method for FMMFs. It elaborates on three core technologies: high-precision digital coal seam modeling, generative model updating and digital twin construction, and data-driven trajectory planning. To address low modeling precision, an intelligent interpolation-based digital coal …

Food Reintroduction After Negative Ofcs In Pediatrics: Dietary Frequency And Caregiver Attitudes, Olivia Pietrantozzi
Honors Projects
Food allergies in pediatric populations have been gradually increasing in prevalence and present significant nutritional risks requiring strict dietary management and psychosocial challenges. Oral food challenges (OFCs) serve as a gold standard in diagnosing food allergies and determining whether allergenic foods can be safely reintroduced to an individual's diet. However, caregivers of children may still experience anxiety and barriers that delay the reintroduction of foods, which can limit diet diversity and increase the child's risk of future allergy development. This study looked to evaluate the dietary frequency of allergenic food reintroduction following negative OFCs, as well as to assess changes …

Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt
Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt
Senior Honors Theses
At the end of the fifth century BC, Greek society underwent major changes as a result of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. While the origin of the war and its course of events are described in contemporary sources, the impact of the war on Athenian society is mostly overlooked. However, another contemporary source, the comedies of the Athenian playwright Aristophanes, provides an alternative perspective from which to consider Athenian society. A thematic study of Aristophanes’ eleven extant plays offers a window into changes in various aspects of Athenian society during and immediately after the Peloponnesian War, such as …
