Spectral Characterization Of Colorectal Cancer Using Excitation-Scanning Hyperspectral Imaging, Natalie Hadad
Spectral Characterization Of Colorectal Cancer Using Excitation-Scanning Hyperspectral Imaging, Natalie Hadad
Honors Theses
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide, with a lifetime risk of approximately one in twenty-three for men and one in twenty-five for women. Although early detection significantly improves survival, current diagnostic approaches such as tissue biopsy are invasive, reliant on subjective interpretation, have extended turnaround times, and risk missing flat or depressed lesions that are more difficult to detect than raised polyps. These limitations highlight the need for objective, minimally invasive technologies capable of detecting early tissue changes. This study investigates excitation-scanning hyperspectral imaging (Ex-HSI) as a label-free optical approach for identifying colorectal cancer–associated …
Novel Biomarker Discovery In Multiple Sclerosis, Manisha Gangasani
Novel Biomarker Discovery In Multiple Sclerosis, Manisha Gangasani
Honors Theses
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neuroinflammatory disorder affecting the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve. Patients experience cognitive, motor, autonomic, and emotional symptoms that often overlap with other neurological conditions, making early diagnosis challenging. Current diagnostic criteria require evidence of lesions with dissemination in time and space. Racial disparities in MS outcomes are well documented, with Black individuals often exhibiting greater disease severity, higher relapse rates, and increased disability compared to White individuals. These differences likely reflect a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and healthcare access factors, underscoring the need to improve early diagnosis and reduce inequities in care. …
Structure-Property Relationships In Epoxy/Amine-Derived Polyester Thermosets, Jeffrey Aguinaga
Structure-Property Relationships In Epoxy/Amine-Derived Polyester Thermosets, Jeffrey Aguinaga
Dissertations
This dissertation relates to ester-containing aromatic epoxy monomers and thermosets formed via reaction of those monomers with either ester-containing or non-ester-containing amine comonomers. Due to the wide array of potential reactants (many bioderivable) to form ester-containing epoxy monomers that are closely related in structure, fundamental study of structure-property relationships was highly practical for this platform of materials.
Though properties of aromatic epoxy thermosets of relatively high-crosslink density and network strand rigidity vary widely with chemical composition and architecture, relatively low fracture toughness and impact resistance due to lack of ductility are typical. Integration of ester functionality and aliphatic spacers/connectors for …
Popular Protest And Corporate Reputation: Exploring The Impact On Recruitment And Retention, Heather Miller
Popular Protest And Corporate Reputation: Exploring The Impact On Recruitment And Retention, Heather Miller
Dissertations
In today’s sociopolitical climate, popular protest has become a powerful force shaping how organizations are judged and how people decide where to work. This qualitative study took place during a period of heightened sociopolitical activity and public unrest in the United States, when organizational responses to contested issues were especially visible and consequential. This study explored how popular protest affects corporate reputation (CR) and, in turn, influences employee recruitment and retention. Drawing on stakeholder theory (ST), corporate social responsibility (CSR), and corporate social advocacy (CSA), the study situated popular protest as an external pressure that exposes alignment or misalignment in …
Exploring The Effects Of Polymer-Graphene Interactions On Bulk Composite Properties Using Finite Element Analysis, Bryant Grove
Exploring The Effects Of Polymer-Graphene Interactions On Bulk Composite Properties Using Finite Element Analysis, Bryant Grove
Dissertations
As a filler in high performance materials, graphene significantly enhances the mechanical properties of polymer composites. Experimental characterization of graphene composite enhancements is limited by labor-intensive processes in both synthesizing composites for different purposes and in characterizing the interactions between graphene and polymer composites that lead to these enhancements. Computational approaches such as finite element analysis (FEA) are suitable alternatives that go beyond experimental analysis. This dissertation demonstrates the utility of FEA in analyzing polymer graphene composites with an emphasis on modeling the interaction between graphene fillers and the matrix within the interphase formed between them. The accessible design framework …

Assessment Of Lake Water Quality Parameters Using Uav Hyperspectral Imaging, Hasanul Banna, Taufiqa Tajnin
Publications and Research
Monitoring water quality in lakes is critical for assessing ecosystem health, managing drinking water resources, and detecting harmful algal blooms. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)–based hyperspectral imaging provides a promising approach for high-resolution observation of water quality parameters. In this undergraduate research project, hyperspectral imagery collected over sample lakes within the Delaware River Watershed was processed using BaySpec’s CubeStitcher software to assess its capability to detect variations in chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations. This work was conducted as part of a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)-funded project in collaboration with Princeton Hydro and NYC College of New York. Hyperspectral image cubes were …
The Impact Of Coach-Athlete Interactions On Athletic Performance: Exploring How Interpersonal Dynamics Translate Into Athletic Performance., Amanda Pizzol
Theses & ETDs
This study examines how interactions between coach and athlete shape athletic performance, through an ethnographic study involving three members of the New College of Florida beach volleyball team and their respective coaches. As a member of the team, I had direct access to daily practices, conversations, and competitive moments, which allowed me to observe how the athletes react to different coaching styles in real time. This access also enabled me to connect my own experience as an athlete to the data I collected throughout this research. The team's context is central to this research. At the time of this study, …
Enhancing Communication In Amateur Soccer Teams Through A Centralized Management App, Manuel Rodriguez
Enhancing Communication In Amateur Soccer Teams Through A Centralized Management App, Manuel Rodriguez
Theses & ETDs
MatchFit is a full-stack web application designed to help amateur soccer teams manage internal logistics in one centralized system. Many teams currently rely on fragmented communication and planning tools such as group chats, email threads, and paper notes. This creates information silos where important updates are missed, schedules are unclear, and player availability is not reliably tracked. The result is extra administrative work for coaches and inconsistent accountability for players. The objective of this project was to design and implement a user-friendly platform that supports core team operations without requiring advanced technical skill. MatchFit provides secure authentication with role-based access …
Trailside Waste As An Indicator Of Human Impact: A Case Study Of The Lone Star Hiking Trail, Madison Slater
Trailside Waste As An Indicator Of Human Impact: A Case Study Of The Lone Star Hiking Trail, Madison Slater
Theses & ETDs
Long-distance hiking trails provide important recreational and ecological benefits but are increasingly affected by recreation-derived waste. This study assessed the distribution and composition of litter along the 96-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) in the Sam Houston National Forest in the state of Texas. Using a complete trail census approach inspired by prior research on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), all encountered waste items were recorded, categorized, and assigned to one-mile transects to evaluate spatial patterns. A total of 327 items were documented, averaging 3.4 items per mile. Waste patterns demonstrated clear clustering near access points like that of trailheads …

This paper examines the reintroduction of gray wolves to Yellowstone National Park by breaking the topic into several sections. It begins with an introduction and a history and timeline section, which provide background on wolf eradication and the events leading up to their reintroduction in 1995–1996. The paper then moves into legal sections, including discussions of the Endangered Species Act, the Environmental Impact Statement, and key court cases, explaining how policy and law made the reintroduction possible and continue to shape wolf management. Ecological impacts are explored in sections focused on animal populations and behavior, waterways, and plant communities, highlighting …
Time Is A Tree: Arboreal Chronotopes & Reciprocal Dendrochronology, Alyssa Bernard
Time Is A Tree: Arboreal Chronotopes & Reciprocal Dendrochronology, Alyssa Bernard
Theses & ETDs
This thesis proposes a framework for reciprocal dendrochronology, a decolonial approach to tree-ring science that shifts the role of the researcher from an extractive observer to a vessel for translating arboreal memory, and explores how trees function as chronotopes: material intersections where time and space are fused into a living record (Bakhtin 1981). By applying the structuralist frameworks of Claude Lévi-Strauss (1955) and Joseph Campbell (1949), it is argued that trees have long functioned as universal symbols of continuity and the axis of existence. This baseline is then brought into conversation with the chronotopic theory of Mikhail Bakhtin (1981) and …

Canvascram Automating The Generation Of Learning Materials Using Retrieval Augmented Generation (Rag), Paige Grimes
Canvascram Automating The Generation Of Learning Materials Using Retrieval Augmented Generation (Rag), Paige Grimes
Theses & ETDs
An increasing number of students across the globe have been utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in their studies. These tools can be beneficial when assisting students in understanding different topics; however, hallucinations that provide incorrect explanations by these models may negatively impact the learning process. CanvasCram is proposed to create an alternative approach to generating learning materials by integrating the use of retrieval augmented generation (RAG) into the generation process for both students and teachers. RAG relies on a knowledge base, rather than solely relying on public training data that base models use to generate their output. Additionally, a Canvas …

Rhetorical Models Of Conspiracy Theories How Two Political Commentary Youtubers Build Narrative Authority, Riley Bucklin
Theses & ETDs
The purpose of this study is to explore the rhetoric that independent political commentators on YouTube used to develop conspiracy theories in the immediate aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s murder. On September 10th, 2025, Charlie Kirk — a prominent conservative political commentator and activist — was assassinated at a Turning Point USA event on Utah Valley University campus. Following the shooting, various conspiracy theories developed online as the narrative from the federal investigation was still developing. This study is necessitated by the rapid pace at which digital subcultures have displaced traditional media outlets and reshaped what is considered trustworthy reporting. To …
Corporate Leverage And Private Investment: Short-Run Constraints And Long-Run Financing In The U.S., Brandon Sisneros
Corporate Leverage And Private Investment: Short-Run Constraints And Long-Run Financing In The U.S., Brandon Sisneros
Theses & ETDs
This thesis examines the relationship between corporate leverage and private investment in the United States using quarterly macroeconomic data from 1971Q2 to 2025Q2. The framework employed consisted of an Engle-Granger cointegration framework and an error correction model (ECM), the analysis finds evidence of a consistent long-run equilibrium between corporate leverage and real gross private domestic investment as a share of GDP. The long-run estimates return a positive and statistically significant relationship. Conversely, the short-run ECM output shows that increases in leverage reduce investment, while both contemporaneous and lagged coefficients confirm a negative persistent effect. In addition, the error correction term …
Sustainability Savvy: The Role Of Competence And Efficacy In Promoting Pro-Environmental Behavior, Lorenna Graham
Sustainability Savvy: The Role Of Competence And Efficacy In Promoting Pro-Environmental Behavior, Lorenna Graham
Environmental Studies Honors Projects
Combatting environmental issues requires both large-scale and individual change. While many understand that personal pro-environmental behavior (PEB) is necessary, individuals do not always engage in this behavior (Hines, 1986, Goh, 2022). Thus, there is a need to investigate psychological factors which encourage PEB. Prior research suggests competence and outcome efficacy as likely PEB predictors (Bentler, 2023, Lavergne & Pelletier, 2015, Priolo, 2016), while cognitive dissonance has been shown to both encourage and discourage PEB (Bouwman, 2022, Dickerson, 1992, Ehrich & Irwin, 2005). Study 1 investigates the relationship between cognitive dissonance and PEB with competence and outcome efficacy as potential moderators. …

Evaluating Bawaslu’S Sigaplapor For Electoral Justice In Indonesia’S 2024 Election, Nur Hidayat Sardini, Muhtar Muhtar
Jurnal Wacana Politik
This article assesses the effectiveness of the Election Violation Handling and Reporting Information System (SiGapLapor) operated by Indonesia’s Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) as a case of digitalising electoral oversight. Using a qualitative-exploratory case study, the research draws on document analysis (regulations, internal reports, and SiGapLapor web statistics) and semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with election supervisors and ICT managers. Findings indicate that SiGapLapor works reasonably well as an administrative registry and an internal reporting tool, but remains weak as a participatory public complaints mechanism and as an instrument of electoral justice. Key constraints include a non-user-centred interface, predominantly manual …

This research uses a qualitative case study approach to explore how three college registrars lead and participate with coworkers.
This investigation used a multiple case study design where data collection involved exploring three small colleges of fewer than 1,000 students. The study used semi-structured interviews with the registrar at each of the three colleges, and …
Clinical Case Study: The Effects Of Task Dynamics And Saltatory Pneumotactile Stimulation On Cerebral Oxygenation, Cognitive Performance, And Sensorimotor Function In An Adult Following Left Ischemic Mca Stroke, Bridget Slagle
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
In the chronic stage of stroke recovery, neuroplasticity is thought to require external influence, and is often considered to be experience-dependent, or “Hebbian,” plasticity. Current studies have been investigating multiple ways to induce plasticity to enhance recovery, including investigating the role of sensory stimulation in cortical priming to enhance the effects of rehabilitation interventions.
This case study of an 80-year-old female with aphasia after L-MCA ischemic stroke included 18 neurotherapeutic sessions over 10 weeks. Each session included pneumotactile somatosensory stimulation to the glabrous hand and perioral face, delivered to both the left and right side via the GALILEO, as well …

Creative Roots, Strategic Outcomes: Ceo Childhood Imprints And The Pursuit Of Innovation, Puya Kahhali, Alexandru Roman, Haibo Liu
American Business Review
This study examines how CEOs’ early-life experiences shape strategic decision-making, focusing on the influence of parental creativity. Drawing on imprinting and upper echelons theories, we argue that CEOs with creatively employed parents develop an exploratory mindset that promotes greater investment in firm R&D. Crucially, we propose that this learning stems from behavioral modeling of exploratory mindsets through creative problem-solving—rather than the transmission of socioeconomic capital. Using a proprietary dataset of Fortune 100 CEOs and their parents’ occupations, we find robust support for this relationship. The effect is amplified under strong firm performance, while CEO age does not consistently weaken the …

Tapestry Of Cross-Border Expansion Strategy By Navigating Ecological Risks: Joint Ventures Versus Acquisitions In India’S Textile Industry, Soumyatanu Mukherjee, Sidhartha S. Padhi, Ranit Sinha, Faisal M. Ahsan
American Business Review
We study how host-country ecological risk and carbon emissions shape Indian textile firms’ choice between cross-border acquisitions (CBAs) and cross-border joint ventures (CBJVs). We extend institutional theory by introducing ecological performance and sustainability disclosure shocks into entry-mode choice. The Environmental Outsourcing Hypothesis (EOH) posits that firms facing environmental liabilities prefer full acquisitions in jurisdictions with poorer ecological performance, effectively “outsourcing” environmental exposure to the host setting. Using 171 cross-border transactions (39 countries; 2004–2020) and Tobit/Logit/OLS models plus difference-in-differences and Heckman selection, we find: (i) higher ecological risk and higher direct (Scope 1) emissions in the host are associated with a …

Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film: Theses, Student Research, and Creative Work
This thesis examines the technical direction processes for two studio productions, Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl and Tigers Be Still by Kim Rosenstock, produced during the 2025–2026 season at the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. Through comparative analysis, this document explores how differing design styles—metaphorical and installation-based versus grounded realism—impact the planning, communication, and execution responsibilities of a technical director within a constrained academic production environment. Both productions operated within similar parameters, including limited budgets, student-based labor, and a shared performance space, allowing for a focused evaluation of process rather than resources. The Eurydice production emphasized abstract scenic elements, including large-scale string installations …
