Social Data's Role In Law And Political Economy, Salome Viljoen
Social Data's Role In Law And Political Economy, Salome Viljoen
Book Chapters
Over the past several years, the digital economy has been a notable uptick in interest from scholars across areas of law. This should come as no surprise. The digital economy encompasses some of the largest companies in the world, whose business models pioneer and spread new strategies to concentrate private power across the political economy more broadly. Digital companies have transformed commercial and social life, and they raise problems of concentrated private power. They are also charged with a slew of downstream disruptions resulting from collective pursuit of that power: global, social, and interpersonal forms of dislocation, oppression, impoverishment, alienation, …

Koszulity, Supersolvability And Stirling Representations, Ayah Almousa, Victor Reiner, Sheila Sundaram
Mathematics Faculty Publications
Supersolvable hyperplane arrangements and matroids are known to give rise to certain Koszul algebras, namely their Orlik–Solomon algebras and graded Varchenko–Gel’fand algebras. We explore how this interacts with group actions, particularly for the braid arrangement and the action of the symmetric group, where the Hilbert functions of the algebras and their Koszul duals are given by Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds, respectively. The corresponding symmetric group representations exhibit branching rules that interpret Stirling number recurrences, which are shown to apply to all supersolvable arrangements. They also enjoy representation stability properties that follow from Koszul duality.

Ripples: An Automated Embedding Generation Algorithm For The Forward-Forward Algorithm, Spencer Connolly
Ripples: An Automated Embedding Generation Algorithm For The Forward-Forward Algorithm, Spencer Connolly
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The Forward-Forward algorithm (FF) is yet another novel invention by Geoffrey Hinton, the creator of the famous backpropagation algorithm (BP). Since its proposal, many papers have been published exploring its potential, and good progress has been made in increasing its viability. Though FF continually falls short of BP, its purpose is not to replace BP and preliminary research shows that there is plenty of room for growth. In this paper, we present a literature review for FF algorithms applied to Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) for image classification tasks and set the stage for applying FF to more complex datasets. The …

Shame And Shame Resilience Among Students In An Alternative Suspension Program, James Alvin Rader Jr.
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This explanatory sequential mixed methods study investigated the impact of an alternative suspension academic recovery program on shame and shame resilience among academically suspended college students. Grounded in shame resilience theory, the study examined changes in shame, specifically avoidance behavior, negative self-perception, and overall feelings of shame, and in shame resilience, including critical awareness, recognition of shame, the ability to verbalize shame, help-seeking behaviors, and total shame resilience. Quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-program surveys using the Test of Self-Conscious Affect-4 (TOSCA-4) and a researcher-developed Shame Resilience Scale. Qualitative data were then gathered through postintervention focus groups to …

This Master of Applied Science (MAS) project report assesses the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of archaeological sites 45CH01104 and 45CH00402 near Wells Dam in Chelan County, Washington. Field investigations conducted in 2024 included pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) analysis to gather data on site conditions and potential cultural features. Site 45CH01104 was characterized by pre-contact lithic and fire-cracked rock (FCR) scatters and is recommended as eligible in this report for the NRHP under Criteria A and D due to its association with Indigenous subsistence activities and its potential to yield important archaeological information. It …

Improving Communication And Follow Up For Incidental Findings From Panscan Imaging, Makenzie Morrissey, Kristen Payne, Randall Rittmann, Chris Robert, Joseph Lim, Danielle Pigneri
North Texas Research Forum 2025
OBJECTIVE: Incidental findings in medical imaging pose a significant challenge in healthcare due to the potential for missed follow-ups, which can lead to adverse outcomes for patients. These findings, which are unrelated to the primary purpose of the imaging study, are increasingly common due to advances in imaging technology and its widespread use. The consequences of missed follow-ups can be severe. For instance, the rate of malignancy in incidental pulmonary nodule id about 5% and follow up fails in 30-70% of cases. This means for every 120 CT chest scans ordered, 1 lung cancer is missed (McWilliams et al., 2013). …

Assessment Of Patient Satisfaction Through The Introduction Of A Post-Procedure Pamphlet In An Outpatient Clinic, Mohammad Rashik, James Aston, Sajid Surve
North Texas Research Forum 2025
This quality improvement project aimed to create a patient pamphlet for the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) clinic at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The pamphlet provides important post-procedure information for patients who undergo treatments like joint injections, platelet-rich plasma therapy, prolotherapy, hydrodissection, botulinum toxin injection, and nerve blocks. These procedures can lead to potential side effects, some of which patients may not be aware of. To address this, the pamphlet includes information on common symptoms, their causes, recommended next steps, and guidance on when to contact the OMM clinic or visit the Emergency Department. The pamphlet was …

A Unique Case Of Small Bowel Arteriovenous Malformations In The Setting Of Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura, Austin Moore, Evan Chen, Hassan Ahmed
North Texas Research Forum 2025
Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are a common cause of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding and often require intervention for definitive treatment. The diagnosis and management of this disease process becomes complicated when combined with an immunologic coagulation disorder. There is very limited literature describing management techniques for patients with these coinciding diseases. This unique case describes a 65-year-old male with a history of AVMs of the small bowel as well as immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Previously he had undergone multiple medical interventions for management of his ITP, including steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. He had also undergone multiple imaging and endoscopic interventions to …

The Process And Significance Of Convening A Community Advisory Board With Individuals With Severe Mental Illness, Jacelyn Biondo, Nia Johnson
The Process And Significance Of Convening A Community Advisory Board With Individuals With Severe Mental Illness, Jacelyn Biondo, Nia Johnson
Department of Medicine Faculty Papers
Individuals with lived experience of being diagnosed with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders have deep and profound knowledge regarding the culture and needs of their community. Historically, these and other vulnerable populations have been excluded from care access, treatment insights, research development and participation, and often society in general. In this paper, we share our experience of convening a community advisory board with vulnerable populations and highlight the expertise these community members provide. We outline our processes of convening the community advisory board, engaging in collaborative meetings, revising the research protocol, and exploring future research needs. Using meeting …

A New State Constitutional Right To Informational Privacy: The Origins Speak, Albert E. Scherr, Neal Kurk
Law Faculty Scholarship
[Excerpt] This article occupies the space between the ongoing, newly energized development of state constitutional law and the fraught public policy field of privacy protections. It analyzes a new state constitutional provision that is explicitly and exclusively about information privacy. The provision, Part I, Article 2b9 of the New Hampshire Constitution,10 reads as follows: An individual’s right to live free from governmental intrusion in private or personal information is natural, essential, and inherent.11 The provision extends an individual’s privacy right significantly beyond that of both the federal and New Hampshire state constitutions. It operates at the intersection of privacy and …

Collaboration plays a critical role in wildfire risk mitigation efforts. This study examines collaborative wildfire governance networks within Southwest Idaho, a priority landscape designated in 2022 under the USDA Forest Service's Wildfire Crisis Strategy (WCS). Through survey data from 64 respondents, the Fueling Adaptation study aimed to identify the structure, capacity, and gaps in governance networks addressing wildfire risk in Southwest Idaho and understand how WCS investments have influenced wildfire management in the area. The findings reveal a growing governance network centered on the USDA Forest Service and the Idaho Department of Lands and supported by numerous non-governmental organizations and …
