Trauma-Informed Gatekeeping In Counselor Education And Supervision: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Leslie E. Davis Apr 2025

Trauma-Informed Gatekeeping In Counselor Education And Supervision: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Leslie E. Davis

Dissertations

Gatekeeping is a challenging ethical and legal obligation for counselor educators and supervisors. Many counseling students demonstrate some sort of problem of professional competence in their counseling programs, and it is critical that counselor educators utilize gatekeeping practices to prevent gateslipping (Brown-Rice & Furr, 2016a; Gaubatz & Vera, 2002; Kimball et al, 2019). According to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, 2023), there is an increasing need to address trauma as a critical element of providing effective mental health services. Trauma-informed care and trauma-informed principles began to appear in the mental health literature in 2001, and the …

Planning And Dissemination Of Quality Improvement Activities: A Qualitative Study Evaluating Barriers And Enablers To Implementation Of The Squire 2.0 Guidelines, Jessica Rose Phillips

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Background: Quality improvement (QI) initiatives aim to systematically improve the efficiency and safety of healthcare provided to patients. These data-driven projects also seek to improve processes within the healthcare industry. Potential goals for quality improvement projects (QIPs) can include improving patient outcomes, improving healthcare access, increasing efficiency, and enhancing patient safety. While essential to improve care at the local level, QIPs are not without challenges. Currently, healthcare organizations plan and report the findings of these QIPs in non-standardized ways. This can lead to missing key details and the sharing of inaccurate results, among other things. The Standards for Quality Improvement …

What Is A Nation? Colonial Legacies, Identity, And Reclaiming In Métisse Autobiographical Narratives – A Case Study Of Sugar And Slate And Garçon Manqué, Thaïs Maëlle Autin

Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs

This thesis examines the question of national belonging in autobiographical narratives of second-generation immigrant métisse women. I study the similar aesthetic manner in which individuals with different regional and cultural influences grapple with concepts of identity, gender, racism, exile, and negotiation, and the way in which the authors anchor themselves in a broader familial and national heritage. I argue that such an enterprise can be understood as part of the alternative heritage wave, based on Andrew Higson’s theory. The texts put in question traditional understandings of nation. Doing so opens the possibility of engaging in a dialogue that expands the …

An Independent Living Skills Training Guide For Direct Support Professionals Working With People With Intellectual Or Developmental Disabilities, Nigel Yeo, Steven Gerardi Phd, Otd, Mss, Otr Apr 2025

An Independent Living Skills Training Guide For Direct Support Professionals Working With People With Intellectual Or Developmental Disabilities, Nigel Yeo, Steven Gerardi Phd, Otd, Mss, Otr

Spring 2025 OTD Capstone Symposium

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) serve an important role in assisting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in many aspects of their lives through the provision of care and support. Despite lacking in knowledge and training to support the potentially complex and varied presentation of people with IDD, DSPs are in a position to help their clients address and improve on their independent living skills that are important for autonomy and overall well-being. The capstone project developed the Independent Living Skills Teaching Guide (ILSTG), as a tool for DSPs, containing activity plans related to independent living skills, activity modifications based …

Optimizing Care For Heart Failure Patients With Reduced Ejection Fraction: A Quality Improvement Project On Guideline Directed Medical Therapy Adherence, Leonie Campbell-Williams

DNP Projects

Significance and Background: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) remains a major cause of hospital readmissions, increasing both healthcare utilization and patient morbidity. Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT) has been proven to reduce mortality and hospitalizations; however, adherence to these evidence-based guidelines remains inconsistent (Yancy et al., 2022).

Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to evaluate whether enhancing GDMT adherence in an outpatient heart failure clinic could reduce emergency room (ER) admissions among patients with HFrEF.

Methods: A structured intervention was implemented at a local healthcare system Cardiology Clinic, focusing on optimizing adherence to GDMT in 60 patients with HFrEF. …

Unraveling The Narrative: How External Messaging Shapes The Academic Identities Of Neurodiverse Women Of Color, Timarie A. Franco Apr 2025

Unraveling The Narrative: How External Messaging Shapes The Academic Identities Of Neurodiverse Women Of Color, Timarie A. Franco

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative study examines how neurodiverse Women of Color understand and experience academic self-concept (ASC) within higher education systems shaped by whiteness, ableism, and gendered expectations. Traditional ASC measures rely on internalized perceptions of ability and often exclude the influence of external messaging and systemic oppression—especially for students with intersecting marginalized identities. Grounded in Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), this study centers the voices of nine undergraduate collaborators at a large public university who identify as Women of Color and experience neurodivergence. Using narrative interviews and arts-based methods, collaborators explored how academic, social, and cultural experiences informed their sense of …
