Mariachi is an internationally renowned artform and tradition whose history spans over decades and several continents. This study examines the relationship between abortion policy changes and women’s health services, focusing specifically on the state of Ohio’s evolving abortion laws and their implications. Using a qualitative approach, the research explores competency's role in addressing mental health disparities among diverse populations and marginalized communities. Through analyzing state policies and interviews with healthcare advance practice providers, this study completed a thematic analysis that identified opportunities such as shaping access and quality of care. The findings aim to inform strategies that reduce health disparities and improve competent care in women’s health services.

Adequate cerebral perfusion is necessary to help the brain maintain a constant and steady state of nutrient delivery. Since the brain is highly metabolic, changes in the vasculature structure can impact perfusion levels and, therefore, reduce the ability of the brain to receive the support necessary for full functionality. Vascular dysfunction is a common comorbidity among obese individuals. Given the strong association between obesity and cognitive dysfunction, understanding the correlation between reduced cerebral perfusion and altered cerebrovascular structure is crucial. From 1865 to 1870, tens of thousands of ex-Confederate soldiers, officials, and citizens fled the South for destinations in Latin America. They did so because their defeat in the U.S. Civil War instigated an emotional and identity crisis. Ex-Confederates felt that they could no longer live in the South given the changes wrought by Reconstruction. Rather than remain in the region, many looked toward Latin American states, such as Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, and British Honduras (Belize), where they believed they could create a way of life like that experienced in the Old South. To investigate the mechanical properties of high liquid limit clay under different humidity and stress levels in hot and humid regions,high liquid limit clay in hot and humid regions was studied.Dynamic and static triaxial tests were carried out under different humidity and stress levels to reveal the stress-strain relationship and permanent deformation properties across different water contents and confining pressures.The results show that under low confining pressures of the subgrade,the stress-strain curves of the specimens exhibit either strain hardening or strain stabilization,and the failure strength of the specimens decreases with increasing water content and decreasing confining pressure.Based on the Konder …

Construction solid waste is often used as subgrade filler,and its mechanical properties are greatly affected by moisture content and compaction degree.To explore the influence of these factors on the mechanical and particle crushing performance of construction solid waste,laboratory large-scale direct shear tests and particle screening tests were conducted.This study analyzed samples with varying moisture content and compaction degrees under a certain maximum dry density.The large-scale shear tests were carried out under three normal stress conditions:50 kPa,100 kPa,and 150 kPa,and the particle crushing characteristics of construction solid waste before and after shearing were analyzed.The results reveal notable changes in particle crushing …

In mountainous regions,high fill slopes and bridge structures are common due to topographical limitations,often leading to difficulties in transporting prefabricated bridge components.To address this situation,this paper proposed arranging a sunken precast beam yard on high fill roadbeds.The research analyzed the primary factors of roadbed settlement and deformation,applied multiple deformation control measures to manage the deformation of high fill roadbeds and the precast beam yard,and characterized their deformation through a three-dimensional numerical model analysis.The results show that replacing the lower soil layer with poor physical properties with a filler layer with better physical properties can effectively reduce the uneven settlement of …

Medical education is increasingly challenged to develop a curriculum that addresses ambiguity, empathy, and perspective-taking. We developed a required art-based curriculum for all first-year medical students to address this need. Within this course, students use art observation and the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) question framework to explore interprofessional collaborative practice, ambiguity in healthcare, and perspective-taking. The purpose of this study was to examine if the art-based curriculum was associated with changes in tolerance for ambiguity, perspective-taking, and empathy in medical students. Changes in these qualities were evaluated between in-person, emergency remote, and planned remote sessions.

The Laureate’s mission is to provide undergraduate students at Western Michigan University a medium through which to publish their fiction, poetry, nonfiction, photography, graphic novels, and other creative works. The Laureate strives to be a professional and engaging journal that appeals to all. The 23rd edition of The Laureate is unique in that, despite having no strict guidelines on themes, mediums, or styles, we found that many students expressed themes of grief, recovery, self-discovery, and new beginnings.
