Peninsula Medical School

Children and young people’s mental health and well-being has seen a dramatic decline. In the UK, this has been exacerbated by service retrenchment associated with austerity, with evidence of increasing health inequalities. Service innovation that is grounded in practice, has ongoing learning, and is co-designed with children and young people is required now. This can provide creative solutions within the local context and contribute to the fledgling evidence base that explores complex mechanisms of impact. This methodological reflection describes a co-design process of a bespoke, group-based ecotherapy programme: from early piloting using appreciative enquiry before COVID-19 by the mental health, …

Augsso: Secure Threshold Single-Sign-On Authentication With Popular Password Collection, Changsong Jiang, Chunxiang Xu, Guomin Yang May 2025

Augsso: Secure Threshold Single-Sign-On Authentication With Popular Password Collection, Changsong Jiang, Chunxiang Xu, Guomin Yang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Single-sign-on authentication is widely deployed in mobile systems, which allows an identity server to authenticate a mobile user and issue her/him with a token, such that the user can access diverse mobile services. To address the single-point-offailure problem, threshold single-sign-on authentication (PbTA) is a feasible solution, where multiple identity servers perform user authentication and token issuance in a threshold way. However, existing PbTA schemes confront critical drawbacks. Specifically, these schemes are vulnerable to perpetual secret leakage attacks (PSLA): an adversary perpetually compromises secrets of identity servers (e.g., secret key shares or credentials) to break security. Besides, they fail to achieve …

Robust Threshold Ecdsa With Online-Friendly Design In Three Rounds, Guofeng Tang, Haiyang Xue May 2025

Robust Threshold Ecdsa With Online-Friendly Design In Three Rounds, Guofeng Tang, Haiyang Xue

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Threshold signatures, especially ECDSA, enhance key protection by addressing the single-point-of-failure issue. Threshold signing can be divided into offline and online phases, based on whether the message is required. Schemes with low-cost online phases are referred to as “online-friendly”. Another critical aspect of threshold ECDSA for real-world applications is robustness, which guarantees the successful completion of each signing execution whenever a threshold number t of semi-honest participants is met, even in the presence of misbehaving signatories. The state-of-the-art online-friendly threshold ECDSA with-out robustness was developed by Doerner et al. in S&P'24, requiring only three rounds. Recent work by Wong et …

Atypical Morphometry And Connectivity Of The Cortico-Striatal-Thalamo-Cortical Circuit In Children And Adolescents With Chromosome 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome: A Population At Ultra-High Risk For Developing Obsessive-Compulsive And Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, Amanda I. Rowan

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder associated with serious medical, cognitive, and psychiatric conditions, including significantly elevated risk for obsessive-compulsive (OCD) and/or schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SCZ). The cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) neural circuit is critical for cognitive and emotional processing. Dysfunction of the CSTC circuit is implicated in the etiopathology of both OCD and SCZ but has not been specifically examined in individuals with 22q11.2DS. This study used structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), along with standardized psychological and cognitive measures, to investigate atypical morphometry and white matter connectivity within CSTC-related brain regions in …

Wide Lock-In Energy Harvesting From Vortexinduced Vibrations Of A Deformable Cylinder, Ahmed Raafat Mostafa May 2025

Wide Lock-In Energy Harvesting From Vortexinduced Vibrations Of A Deformable Cylinder, Ahmed Raafat Mostafa

Theses

Energy harvesting from ambient sources has gained attention due to increasing energy demands. Despite VIV-based harvesters showing significant potential, their lock-in region, where significant power is generated, is narrow. Given the continuously varying ambient conditions of fluid currents, harvesters can easily fall into de-synchronization, yielding low energy output. Existing solutions like tunable masses or multiple degrees of freedom systems increase complexity and weight, limiting practical applications. This work introduces a novel variable diameter cylinder mechanism—a practical technique that actively tunes the cylinder’s geometry in real time to enhance energy harvesting efficiency from VIV. The mechanism employs an expanding pulley system …

Triple-Valued Neutrosophic Set, Quadruple-Valued Neutrosophic Set, Quintuple-Valued Neutrosophic Set, And Double-Valued Indetermsoft Set, Takaaki Fujita

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Concepts such as Fuzzy Sets, Neutrosophic Sets, Rough Sets, and Plithogenic Sets have been extensively studied to address uncertainty, finding diverse applications across various fields. A Double-Valued Neutrosophic Set (DVNS) extends traditional neutrosophic sets by introducing two distinct indeterminacy components: one leaning towards truth and the other towards falsity. In this paper, we explore Triple-Valued Neutrosophic Sets, Quadruple-Valued Neutrosophic Sets, and Quintuple-Valued Neutrosophic Sets, as well as an extension of the Indetermsoft Set, termed the Double-Valued Indetermsoft Set. Note that related concepts such as the Multi-Valued Neutrosophic Set and the n-Valued Refined Neutrosophic Set have already been established.

Plansyncc - A Construction Document Translation Software, Easton Richard Abreo, Ashton Lee Gandrup, Javier Solis May 2025

Plansyncc - A Construction Document Translation Software, Easton Richard Abreo, Ashton Lee Gandrup, Javier Solis

Construction Management

PlanSyncc was born from shared construction internship experiences, where the team observed significant language barriers between supervisors and tradesmen, leading to miscommunication, inefficiencies, and safety risk. Motivated by this problem, PlanSyncc developed an AI-powered translation software to bridge the gap by translating construction documents in real-time. To bring PlanSyncc to life, the team divided the project into three key deliverables: a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), a business plan, and a pitch deck. The MVP involved creating two Python-based translation codes, one for specifications and another for complex construction plans using tools like PyMuPDF, Tesseract, mtranslate, and others. The business plan …

4-H Camps: Complexities In Adult-Youth Dynamics, Stephanie Femrite, Rebecca Mott, Steven Krauss May 2025

4-H Camps: Complexities In Adult-Youth Dynamics, Stephanie Femrite, Rebecca Mott, Steven Krauss

Journal of Youth Development

Summer camp programs provide adolescent counselors with opportunities to work alongside adult staff, aiming to develop critical skills such as communication, responsibility, independence, and teamwork. Growing research supports the value of camp-based developmental relationships through youth-adult partnerships. However, tensions often arise as adults struggle to share power while youth question their roles as partners. Few studies have investigated the role of expectations and realities in camps that promote a youth-adult partnership approach. To address this gap, a qualitative study was conducted to explore the role perceptions of 14- to 18-year-old camp counselors and program directors’ expectations of counselors’ roles in …

The Importance Of Optimising Performance Within Retrofit Programmes, Seamus Harrington, Mark Mulville May 2025

The Importance Of Optimising Performance Within Retrofit Programmes, Seamus Harrington, Mark Mulville

Conference Papers

Ireland’s Climate Action Plan details a roadmap of measures that seek to achieve net-zero target carbon emissions by 2050. In this context, Ireland has introduced the National Retrofitting Scheme (NRS) which has set a goal of retrofitting c. 30% of existing dwellings to a Building Energy Rating (BER) of B2 by 2030. The route to attaining this rating is dependent on the current specification and configuration of each individual property, therefore it can promote the adoption of retrofit techniques that achieve the required BER rating as opposed to focussing on optimisation of dwelling performance. The pre-cursor to the NRS was …

We are surrounded, in both indoor and outdoor environments, by air containing particles of biological origin (bioaerosols). We constantly inhale them, and, depending upon their size, they deposit in different parts of our airways. Despite their ubiquitous nature and our constant exposure, bioaerosol diversity and composition of the environment are not well characterized, and we understand little about which bioaerosols we are exposed to and how this impacts our health, either positively or negatively. Indoor/Outdoor Bioaerosols Interface and Relationships Network (BioAirNet), a Clean Air Programme-funded network, has recognized the need for the bioaerosol community to reflect on the current challenges …

Do Bans On Conversion Therapy Impose A Governmental "Orthodoxy" About Sex And Gender?, Linda C. Mcclain

Faculty Scholarship

In Part I, this Essay evaluates how orthodoxy arguments featured in Mr. Tingley’s challenge to Washington’s ban on conversion therapy. Part II offers a preliminary analysis of Chiles v. Salazar, 42 which the Court will hear during its 2025-2026 Term. I illustrate how the arguments made against Washington’s law by Chiles and her amici draw from the anti-orthodoxy and marketplace of ideas rhetoric found not only in Justice Thomas’s Tingley dissent and his NIFLA opinion but also in Justice Gorsuch’s majority opinion in the 303 Creative decision.43 Woven together with these speech arguments are appeals to the Court’s …

Antiracist Expert Evidence, Jasmine Gonzales Rose, Asees Bhasin, Spencer Piston

Faculty Scholarship

Since 2020, when mass protests against racism swept across the United States, scholars, lawyers, and the general public have become increasingly aware that racism permeates society and the criminal legal system, from overt racial animus to the nuanced effects of structural racism. Demonstrating the influence of racism is therefore vital to the practice of criminal defense, yet many attorneys do not know how to prove racism in court. We surveyed over seven hundred criminal-defense attorneys across the United States, and nearly half had never heard of expert witnesses testifying or submitting written reports on racism—what we call “antiracist expert evidence.” …
