Bathtub Concept In Health Sciences A Comment, Nidhi Dwivedi, Sandeep Sachdeva, Anika Sulania

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

Bathtub shape has important connotations in public health and the concept could be reflected in two novel ways: (1) engineering (2) epidemiological model. Typical bath-tub curve is a combination of three failure rates, that is, decreasing, constant, and increasing failure rate, and different techniques are utilized to reduce these failures. This brief study highlights the concept of bath-tub, related theory, application, and how data modeling could be undertaken considering bath-tub failure rate.

Evidence-Based Medicine A Non-Starter In India?, Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi, Shailesh Deshpande

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

Introduction:

All patients have a right to the best treatment for the ailment that they suffer from, and the best treatment usually would be evidence based medicine (EBM).

Practice of EBM:

This is formulated considering the physician's personal experience, that of the peers and the patients' expectations. In our country EBM is conspicuous in its absence due to poor maintenance of patients' records, poor access to journals and non-involvement of patients in therapeutic decisions. Physicians in private practice are generally not trained to evaluate external experience, whatever is available. Badly designed diagnostic approach and poor quality of information on which …

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

A mandibular molar with more than four canals is an interesting example of anatomic variations. This case report describes a mandibular first molar with six canals, three canals located in the mesial root and three canals in distal root. The canals were instrumented with rotary system and irrigated with NaOCl (5.25%) and normal saline as the final irrigant. The canals were filled with gutta-percha (Denstply, Maillefer, Switzerland) and AH-plus sealer (Dentsply DeTrey GmbH Konstanz, Germany). This case shows a rare anatomic configuration and points out the importance of search for additional canals.

Gmos And Public Perception: College Students’ Opinions And Knowledge Of Genetic Engineering, Serene M. Cheng Jun 2025

Gmos And Public Perception: College Students’ Opinions And Knowledge Of Genetic Engineering, Serene M. Cheng

RURALS: Review of Undergraduate Research in Agricultural and Life Sciences

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be developed and implemented to address significant global challenges, including nutrient deficiencies, climate change, and crop disease. However, widespread opposition has prevented the success of GMOs. We believe this opposition is strongly connected to a lack of understanding about genetics in general, which has been reflected by previous studies.

In this study, we considered the relationship between GMO support and genetics knowledge by comparing results from a brief quiz and responses to prompts relating to GMOs. Using a survey of college students, we found that support for GMOs and general knowledge of genetics are positively …

The Importance Of Simulation Fidelity To Physician Assistant/Associate Education, Taylor L. Fischer Jun 2025

The Importance Of Simulation Fidelity To Physician Assistant/Associate Education, Taylor L. Fischer

Lynchburg Journal of Medical Science

Simulation, a tool that has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness, is a cornerstone of medical education. Simulation implies an imitation of reality and includes any activity, exercise, or teaching modality mimicking some aspect of actual patient care. Although much of the work on simulation education has been published by nurses and physicians, Physician Assistant/Associates (PA) have begun to contribute to the literature. Still, the use of simulation in PA training has room for growth. On average, physician assistant/associate (PA) programs spend $29,400 annually on simulation activities, roughly 1.6% of the average PA program’s yearly expenditures, according to the latest PA Program …
