Implementation Of The Neural Network Execution Framework In A More Advanced Space-Like Hardware And Software Configuration, Rafael Polanco-Segovia, Piyush M. Mehta, Scott A. Zemerick

Small Satellite Conference

This work presents our Neural Network Execution Framework (NNEF), which aims to provide a cross-platform and reusable framework to deploy and execute trained neural networks (NN) for deep learning (DL) aerospace applications. This framework will execute any neural network inference process, regardless of the original deep learning framework in which it was created, in several flight software frameworks, operating systems, and hardware configurations. Users and organizations can use this framework to create reusable deployment and execution solutions for deep learning, instead of implementing one-off solutions each time they need to develop a specific aerospace application. …

Enhanced Navigation Using Wireless Beacons In Infrastructure, Qi Jiang, Danqing Fu

Defensive Publications Series

To address the limitations of conventional navigation systems in dynamic environments, this disclosure presents a system for improving location accuracy and providing real-time data to users. This disclosure describes equipping public infrastructure, such as traffic lights, pedestrian crosswalks, railroad crossings, and other roadside units (RSUs), with low-cost wireless beacons or local transmitters (e.g., Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband, RFID, etc.). These transmitters continuously broadcast or advertise valuable information, like traffic signal timing, status updates, or precise location data. A user's computing device—which could be a smartphone, wearable, or an in-vehicle system within a connected or autonomous vehicle—may then receive these signals as it …

Advances in Clinical Medical Research and Healthcare Delivery

Background:

Surgical site infections (SSI) can affect up to 26.8% of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In New York State (NYS), hospitals are evaluated by comparing their risk-adjusted CABG SSI rates to the NYS average rate. In 2021, our facility’s rate was significantly higher than the NYS average at 3.40 and 1.51, respectively. We sought to reduce infection rates using a multidisciplinary Implementation Science (IS) approach across the continuum of care.

Methods:

Standardized definitions from the National Healthcare Safety Network were utilized in a 24-month before and after study at a 528-bed hospital that averages 468 CABG/year. In …

Caught In The Crossfire: Navigating Institutional Neutrality Amidst Campus Controversy & Competing Demands, Jamie Herman, Sally Moore Aug 2025

Caught In The Crossfire: Navigating Institutional Neutrality Amidst Campus Controversy & Competing Demands, Jamie Herman, Sally Moore

Prindle Faculty and Staff Publications

When controversies arise, colleges and universities often find themselves in the crossfire of heated debates over institutional neutrality. Some institutions claim neutrality to distance themselves from controversy and defuse tensions surrounding sensitive issues. However, when institutions choose not to engage—whether through nonresponse or by stating they will make no response—they may inadvertently suggest that their current position is neutral, a premise many dispute (A. Ford, 2024). How should higher education institutions (HEIs) navigate the various demands they face to either act or maintain neutrality? Moreover, once institutional leaders understand these competing pressures, how should they respond? This paper has two …

Chemically Mediated Communication In Mound-Building Termites, Sree Subha Ramaswamy Aug 2025

Chemically Mediated Communication In Mound-Building Termites, Sree Subha Ramaswamy

Theses and Dissertations

Nest-building in social insects requires layered communication to coordinate complex, functional structures for housing, protection, storage, and homeostasis. This is especially striking in mound-building termites, which construct and repair large mounds collectively despite lacking image-forming eyes. This thesis investigates how Odontotermes obesus achieves such coordination through chemical communication embedded in soil.

Using controlled two-choice assays with manipulated soils, I separated airborne volatile signals from contact non-volatile signals by baking to remove volatiles, a mesh assay that presented volatile cues without contact, and solvent extraction with reapplication of contact cues. I quantified responses in major-only, minor-only, and mixed groups at two …

The Interplay Of Oxidative Stress, Mitochondrial Dysfunction, And Neuroinflammation In Autism Spectrum Disorder: Behavioral Implications And Therapeutic Strategies, Ansab Akhtar, S K. Rahaman

School of Medicine Faculty Publications

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) deals with several symptoms, including language and speech impairment and developmental delays. The main brain regions affected could be the prefrontal cortex (PFC) or the temporal lobe. The detrimental features could include oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation. Most often, these phenomena are interrelated and can lead to one another, creating a vicious cycle. They also influence the regulation of certain genes involved in the pathogenesis of ASD or related behavior. In the brain regions prone to these detrimental features, a cascade of free radicals, inflammatory cytokines, and mitochondrial energy disruptions is initiated. These actions during …

Is Social Media Use A Reason For Socially Withdrawn Individuals' Mental Health Difficulties?, Angela Grundvig Aug 2025

Is Social Media Use A Reason For Socially Withdrawn Individuals' Mental Health Difficulties?, Angela Grundvig

Theses and Dissertations

Studies have found a link between subtypes of social withdrawal and internalizing problems throughout most of the lifespan. However, the work conducted in adolescence is much more limited including a lack of work examining factors that might mediate the association between forms of social withdrawal and internalizing problems. Social comparison may be one way in which social withdrawal predicts internalizing problems. There has been research showing that social media usage is associated with internalizing problems. The purpose of this study was to assess (a) the associations between three subtypes of social withdrawal (shyness, avoidance, and unsociability), respectively, and indices of …
