Geopolitical Legitimacy Contestation Of The 2026 Iran War In Al-Jazeera: A Critical Discourse Analysis, Doni Firdaus, Fahmy Lukman
Journal Of Middle East and Islamic Studies
This study investigates the discursive strategies and geopolitical legitimacy contestation surrounding the 2026 conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel, as reported by Al-Jazeera Arabic. Utilizing Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework-comprising textual analysis, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice-the research decodes how media language constructs power relations and ideological hegemony. The data is sourced from ten purposively sampled Al-Jazeera reports, spanning multiple journalistic genres, published between February and March 2026. The findings reveal a significant discursive shift in Al-Jazeera's editorial framing. Textually, the use of symmetric prepositions such as "بين" (between) and the juxtaposition of …

Neurint In The Age Of Generative Agentic Ai: A Proposed Paradigm For Left-Of-Bang Strategic Deterrence, James Giordano, Elise Annett
Strategic Insights
This commentary focuses on how neurocognitive intelligence, or NEURINT, could be operationalized through generative agentic artificial intelligence to strengthen anticipatory intelligence and left-of-bang deterrence. NEURINT combines neuroscience, psychology, behavioral science, computational modeling, and traditional intelligence to better understand the cognitive, emotional, cultural, and organizational factors shaping adversary decision-making. This piece looks at how agentic AI, large-scale data integration, cognitive digital twins, and probabilistic forecasting could help intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance identify behavioral patterns, escalation thresholds, vulnerabilities, and potential intervention points before hostile activity becomes operational. It also emphasizes that AI should augment and not replace human analysts. Human judgment, ethical …

The Human Side Of Policy: Rural Teachers And Alberta’S 2024 Mobile Device Ban, Kelly A. Smith
The Human Side Of Policy: Rural Teachers And Alberta’S 2024 Mobile Device Ban, Kelly A. Smith
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
Technology-restrictive educational policies are increasingly shaping classroom practice, yet limited qualitative research has examined how teachers experience implementing these mandates in rural contexts. This study explored how rural elementary teachers experienced Alberta’s 2024 Ministerial Order banning personal mobile devices during instructional time. Using a phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight rural elementary teachers and analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis. Four themes emerged: policy ambiguity, reduced professional autonomy, emotional labour, and leadership as a mediating force. Findings suggest the policy functioned as more than a classroom technology restriction, shaping trust, instructional flexibility, teacher well-being, and school relationships. The study …

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research
Reward seeking is an essential component of human behavior. Anhedonia (reduced motivation for and pleasure in reward) is a core feature of several mental illnesses. Early life adversity associates with later impairments in reward behaviors and related psychopathology; however, specific aspects of early adversity that lead to disrupted reward behaviors are unknown. Capitalizing on evidence that unpredictable signals to the developing brain constitute adversity and influence neurodevelopment, we examined whether exposure to perinatal unpredictable maternal signals associated with diminished reward responsivity, and probed causality using experiments in mice. We analyzed a longitudinal human study (N=158 mother/child dyads) and a …
