Econometric Analyses Across The Continuum Of Care For Individuals With Hearing Loss, Teresa I. Anthony Oct 2025

Econometric Analyses Across The Continuum Of Care For Individuals With Hearing Loss, Teresa I. Anthony

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Hearing loss affects individuals across the age span and, if left untreated, can lead to developmental delays and health and well-being concerns. This dissertation applies econometric analyses to investigate factors influencing diagnostic outcomes in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), intervention enrollment rates among babies with permanent childhood hearing loss (PCHL), and utilization and hospitalization outcomes among adults with sensory impairment (SI). The first study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of automated auditory brainstem response (aABR) versus transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) for newborn hearing screenings in a Thailand hospital NICU. Decision tree modeling and economic evaluation suggested that although aABR is …

Readiness In Ncaa Division I Collegiate Scholarship Men’S Basketball Players: Seasonal Changes In Neuromuscular Performance Tracked Via Force Plate Metrics, Garrett Medenwald

Doctorate in Kinesiology

Monitoring neuromuscular performance across a competitive season is essential for managing training load, recovery, and readiness in elite athletes. Force plate–derived metrics from the hands-on-hips countermovement jump (HOH CMJ) are commonly used to assess neuromuscular status, yet limited longitudinal data exist in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, particularly on game days. The purpose of this study was to examine seasonal changes in HOH CMJ force-time metrics across three competitive phases—non-conference, conference, and postseason—in Division I men’s basketball players.

Nine NCAA Division I scholarship athletes performed three HOH CMJs on force plates within 30 minutes of game time throughout the 2024–2025 …

Connectedness And Belonging: An Autoethnography About Military Veteran Transition, Benjamin A. Smet Oct 2025

Connectedness And Belonging: An Autoethnography About Military Veteran Transition, Benjamin A. Smet

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Military veterans often face profound challenges transitioning to civilian life, yet prevailing narratives focus narrowly on PTSD and combat trauma. This dissertation uses autoethnography to broaden that view, blending personal narrative with theory to explore seven interrelated transition stressors: grief and bereavement, loss of military identity, autobiographical memory, service-connected nostalgia, moral injury, stereotype threat, and socialized masculinity and stoicism. These layered stories illuminate the cultural, emotional, and relational dimensions of transition, showing how isolation, disconnection, and loss of belonging shape veteran experiences as deeply as trauma. The analysis demonstrates that healing emerges not from prescriptive programs but from relational practices …

Correlates Of Professional Breastfeeding Perceived Role, Perceived Influence, And Confidence In Providing Lactation Support Among Registered Dietitians And Registered Nurses, Lauren M. Dinour, Melanie Shefchik, Andrea Uguna

Department of Nutrition and Food Studies Scholarship and Creative Works

Lactation support from health professionals is a crucial social determinant of health. Registered dietitians (RDs) and registered nurses (RNs) can play an important role in supporting breastfeeding, yet most have minimal formal lactation education and training. This study seeks to explore the correlates of professional breastfeeding perceived role, perceived influence, and confidence in providing lactation support among RDs and RNs. Using a cross-sectional design, a convenience sample of 111 credentialed providers completed an online survey assessing their breastfeeding-related training, experiences, knowledge, attitudes, and practices. We also examined perceptions of social support, intentions for future breastfeeding, professional roles, and confidence in …

Catching On: Work Stress, Employee Wellbeing, And The Moderating Role Of Team-Level Emotional Contagion, Aglae Hernandez Grande, Ben Farr-Wharton, Fleur Sharafizad, Simon Darcy, Mihajla Gavin

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Work stress and employee wellbeing have gained heightened attention since the COVID-19 pandemic. Until now, organizations have primarily sought to conceptualize these variables as an individual-level phenomenon; thereby neglecting the potential influence of social dynamics within the workplace. Drawing on conservation of resources and emotional contagion theories, this study examines the extent to which team-level emotional contagion moderates the impact of stress on wellbeing, factoring in multilevel effects. Data from 237 professional services employees nested within 41 teams was analyzed. The results show support for emotional contagion as a team-level moderator between individual-level work stress and employee wellbeing. The role …

Background Timely and comprehensive analyses of causes of death stratified by age, sex, and location are essential for shaping effective health policies aimed at reducing global mortality. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 provides cause-specific mortality estimates measured in counts, rates, and years of life lost (YLLs). GBD 2023 aimed to enhance our understanding of the relationship between age and cause of death by quantifying the probability of dying before age 70 years (70q0) and the mean age at death by cause and sex. This study enables comparisons of the impact of causes of …

Leveraging Gamification To Overcome Challenges In Undergraduate Research Motivation And Engagement, Harika Rao Oct 2025

Leveraging Gamification To Overcome Challenges In Undergraduate Research Motivation And Engagement, Harika Rao

Faculty and Staff Publications & Presentations

In an era where students are increasingly digitally immersed, traditional methods of motivating undergraduate research often fall short of fostering sustained engagement and intrinsic interest. This research explores the innovative potential of gamification as a transformative strategy to address these challenges. By integrating game elements—such as points, badges, leaderboards, and narrative-driven challenges—into undergraduate research curricula, the study aims to create immersive, interactive learning environments that reignite students’ curiosity, motivation and engagement. Drawing from interdisciplinary frameworks, including Self-Determination Theory and Flow Theory, the research investigates how gamified platforms influence students' perceptions of autonomy, competence, relatedness and immersion, ultimately enhancing their research …
