Third-Party Accommodations, Doron Dorfman Nov 2025

Third-Party Accommodations, Doron Dorfman

Michigan Law Review

Does disability rights law impose an obligation on employers, schools, and other places of public accommodation to control the behavior of coworkers, students, or other third parties to accommodate an individual with disabilities? This Article examines that unexplored legal question and shows that the law frequently fails to protect people with disabilities from the choices and behaviors of third parties. Judges often consider these major barriers to access beyond the reach of the Americans with Disabilities Act’s reasonable accommodation mandate. This Article argues that this problem results from improperly imposing the privity paradigm, a doctrine that limits the inquiry about …

Neutrosophic Approaches For Analyzing The Interaction Between The Sports Industry And Community Health: A Multi-Attribute Decision-Making Perspective, Hang Zhang

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

In the context of integrating sports and medicine, the evaluation of collaborative development models in community healthcare and the sports health industry can be analyzed through four aspects: resource integration efficiency, health service coverage, improvement in residents' health levels, and policy support and implementation effectiveness. These indicators help assess the model's effectiveness and promote residents' well-being and industry collaboration. The collaborative development patterns evaluation of community medical and sports health industry based on sports medicine integration is multiple-attribute decision-making (MADM). In such a study, the generalized weighted geometric Bonferroni mean (GWGBM) approach is conducted for MADM with single-valued neutrosophic sets …

Linguistic Neutrosophic Sets With Application To Group Decision-Making To Enhance The Work Effectiveness Evaluation Of University Counselors, Li Wang

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The evaluation of university counselors' work effectiveness in the new era aims to assess their performance in areas such as ideological and political education (IPE), psychological counseling, academic support, and daily management. The evaluation typically includes counselors' performance in guiding students’ thoughts, promoting mental health, crisis intervention, and career planning. A scientific and comprehensive evaluation system can improve the quality of counselors' work and promote students' holistic development. The work effectiveness evaluation of university counselors is multiple-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM). Recently, Exponential TODIM (ExpTODIM) and TOPSIS approaches have been introduced to address MAGDM. The 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic sets (2TLNSs) have …

Policy Aspects Of Mitigation And Adaptation To Glacier Melt, José Romero Nov 2025

Policy Aspects Of Mitigation And Adaptation To Glacier Melt, José Romero

New England Journal of Public Policy

Global warming is causing irreversible glacier retreat. This phenomenon will have major consequences for the environment and human systems, particularly in terms of water availability, increased natural hazards, slope and valley stability, hydroelectric power generation, tourism, culture, and local lifestyles. Only a drastic and rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions could slow this phenomenon, but this reduction is slow in coming. Countries are experimenting with different approaches to mitigate ice melt, including integrated management of glacial and periglacial ecosystems and the local application of technologies. These technologies raise scientific questions about their effectiveness in a warming climate, and policy questions, …

Making Institutional Criteria Transparent For Minority Entrepreneurs, Yolanda Christophe Nov 2025

Making Institutional Criteria Transparent For Minority Entrepreneurs, Yolanda Christophe

The Lender Center for Social Justice

Entrepreneurship has become a vital pathway for many minority communities, especially in historically disinvested neighborhoods such as Baltimore’s Black Butterfly. Yet, instead of serving as gateways, mainstream institutions, banks, government agencies, corporations, and landlords too often act as barriers. Entrepreneurs report being denied access without clear explanations, forced to rely on exhausting workarounds like piecing together small grants, leaning on personal networks, or slowly building credibility with skeptical institutions. These hurdles unfairly burden business owners who already face limited resources. The research finds that progress cannot rest on specialized minority programs alone; the broader system must change. By making institutional …

Be+ Assisted, Simultaneous Confinement Of More Than 15000 Antihydrogen Atoms, Tim Tharp Nov 2025

Be+ Assisted, Simultaneous Confinement Of More Than 15000 Antihydrogen Atoms, Tim Tharp

Physics Faculty Research and Publications

Antihydrogen, the bound state of a positron and an antiproton, is the only pure anti-atomic system ever studied. It is produced exclusively in the laboratory, as it has never been observed in nature. This unique system is of great interest for searching for tentative differences between matter and antimatter. Antihydrogen has been routinely trapped since 2010 and accumulated since 2017, enabling, for example, the first precision spectroscopic study of the anti-atom in 2018 and the first observation of the influence of gravity in 2023. Here we report an eight-fold increase in the trapping rate of antihydrogen, enabled by sympathetic cooling …

Beyond Mass Deportation, Nancy Plankey-Videla, Huyen Pham, Angela D. Morrison, Luz E. Herrera

Faculty Scholarship

Donald Trump’s threats to carry out the mass deportation of unauthorized immigrants helped propel him to a second term as President of the United States. For the estimated 11 million people in the U.S. without lawful status, those threats have increased fears of forced returns to their countries of origin. While American immigration law is heavily focused on the legal processes leading to deportation, little attention has been paid to the post-deportation experiences of individuals who must reintegrate into their home countries. This gap in understanding is especially alarming given the high stakes of reintegration. A successful transition can empower …
