Towards Fair Sequential Resource Allocation: Algorithmic Designs, Interventions, And Evaluations, Ashwin Kumar Dec 2025

Towards Fair Sequential Resource Allocation: Algorithmic Designs, Interventions, And Evaluations, Ashwin Kumar

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

This thesis develops a comprehensive framework for fair sequential resource allocation in multi-agent systems where a centralized allocator coordinates actions under global feasibility constraints, while satisfying preferences of different agents. Ranging from ridesharing platforms and homelessness intervention programs to power grid management, such systems play a critical role in shaping access to essential resources. Yet, existing approaches to resource allocation often prioritize aggregate utility, leading to systematic inequities across individuals and groups, particularly in sequential settings where decisions unfold over time. To address this challenge, we introduce the Distributed Evaluation, Centralized Allocation (DECA) framework, which unifies a broad class of …

Exploring The Role Of Human Pioneer Factors On Hiv Transcription Through Rna Interference Screening, Zachary Comella Dec 2025

Exploring The Role Of Human Pioneer Factors On Hiv Transcription Through Rna Interference Screening, Zachary Comella

Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2020 - Present

Per the World Health Organization, approximately 40 million individuals live with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) worldwide. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) against HIV limits viral replication but does not eradicate the virus. This is mainly due to the presence of long lived CD4+ T cells harboring transcriptionally silenced integrated proviruses, hidden from the immune system, which are, however, ready to reinitiate a spreading infection as soon as treatment is interrupted. To develop novel strategies to block virus reactivation without treatment, a deep understanding of host factors contributing to HIV transcriptional regulation is needed. Pioneer factors (PFs) are a unique type of …

Analysis Of Source–Sink Organ Dynamics In Kaffir Lime (Citrus Hystrix Dc.) At Different Plant Ages, Siti Auliya Rahma, Rahmat Budiarto, Syariful Mubarok Dec 2025

Analysis Of Source–Sink Organ Dynamics In Kaffir Lime (Citrus Hystrix Dc.) At Different Plant Ages, Siti Auliya Rahma, Rahmat Budiarto, Syariful Mubarok

Jurnal Kultivasi

Kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix DC.) is a leafy spice commodity widely used as a culinary ingredient, in bio-pharmaceuticals, and as a raw material for essential oil production. Despite its high demand, leaf productivity remains relatively low, highlighting the need for improved cultivation practices. A better understanding of source–sink dynamics is essential, as leaf production is strongly influenced by the balance between assimilate-producing and assimilate-consuming organs. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the source-sink capacity of kaffir lime plants of different ages as a preliminary step toward identifying cultivation strategies to enhance leaf production. The experiment was conducted at Bale Tatanen …

Ach Health Hotline: Summary 2025 Dec 2025

Ach Health Hotline: Summary 2025

CompassPoint

Each summer, camp health and leadership teams encounter a wide range of challenges that reflect the complexities of creating safe, supportive environments for young people. Camps experience moments of uncertainty—health concerns, behavioral issues, environmental emergencies, and emotional struggles. The Alliance for Camp Health (ACH) Health Hotline is a vital resource supporting camps by offering real-time guidance, reassurance, and problem-solving.

This summer’s hotline calls tell the stories of how health staff navigated physical health challenges, from directors seeking clarity regarding care protocols to communities facing natural disasters, heat waves, and unexpected illnesses. Each caller received support, encouragement, and guidance to improve …

Seizures In Camp Settings, Sandra Shapiro, Taylor Gilman, Tamar Sternfield, Jolie Skivington Dec 2025

Seizures In Camp Settings, Sandra Shapiro, Taylor Gilman, Tamar Sternfield, Jolie Skivington

CompassPoint

Managing seizures in the summer camp environment presents unique challenges, requiring not only medical attention but also empathy and understanding from both peers and caregivers. Approximately 0.5–5% of children and adolescents will experience at least one afebrile seizure by adolescence and there is a 3.6% risk of experiencing at least one seizure in an 80-year-lifespan (Murphy et al., 1995 as cited in Wilfong, 2025). Recognizing how to support a child with seizures during the camp season is essential to promoting their safety and well-being while also ensuring they have a positive and inclusive camp experience.

Camp Staff Self-Care: What Are We Encouraging, What Are We Observing?, Megan Owens, Alexandra Skrocki, Melissa Van Scoy Dec 2025

Camp Staff Self-Care: What Are We Encouraging, What Are We Observing?, Megan Owens, Alexandra Skrocki, Melissa Van Scoy

CompassPoint

Self-care is widely discussed within nursing literature, most often referencing a patient’s ability to care for themselves or address their own needs when dealing with chronic illnesses and diseases (Kickbusch, 1989; McCormack, 2003). Social movements related to women’s empowerment, health and wellness, and the COVID-19 pandemic expanded this research toward understanding how self-care practices combat stress and negative emotions among employees in helping professions (Martinez et al., 2021). Summer camp work may be considered a helping profession given the level of care and responsibility attributed to camp staff.

Health Center Staff I: Where We Are Now And Considerations For The Future, Tracey Gaslin, Beth Schultz, Ann Laske, Alexandra Skrocki Dec 2025

Health Center Staff I: Where We Are Now And Considerations For The Future, Tracey Gaslin, Beth Schultz, Ann Laske, Alexandra Skrocki

CompassPoint

Having appropriate and qualified healthcare staff aligns with safe, well-coordinated services. When a camp identifies what health services they wish to provide (e.g., screening, medication management, delegation, documentation, communicable disease planning), they are better able to determine who has the appropriate education and credentials to provide those services. Additional variables to consider when making decisions about camp healthcare staff include the camp’s distance from higher-level care, risks associated with camp activities, and populations being served.

Nursing At Summer Camp: Piloting A Novel Clinical Rotation Experience For Undergraduates In Pediatrics, Vanessa Lugo Dec 2025

Nursing At Summer Camp: Piloting A Novel Clinical Rotation Experience For Undergraduates In Pediatrics, Vanessa Lugo

CompassPoint

Nursing schools have traditionally relied on inpatient settings as the primary venue for clinical placement for undergraduate courses. However, the availability of clinical placement sites has diminished in recent years for reasons that include faculty retirements, problems with administrative support and coordination in large hospital systems, and intensified competition among health-profession schools for a limited pool of rotation sites (Chesney et al., 2021; American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2022). Clinical placement sites became especially sparse during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many facilities prohibited on-site student instruction (Kaveh et al., 2022; Ridgway et al., 2022). Nursing schools in rural areas …

Part I: Building Stronger Camp Communities Through Motivation As A Connected Process, Kelley Freridge Dec 2025

Part I: Building Stronger Camp Communities Through Motivation As A Connected Process, Kelley Freridge

CompassPoint

Every summer, millions of children, youth, and young adult staff members gather in camp communities seeking adventures, community, and growth. They arrive carrying stories of who they are and who they might become. While some camp professionals have explored the existing research on motivation, many still struggle with this question: how do we move beyond temporary, programmatic reward-driven compliance or temporary entertainment-centered enthusiasm to spark genuine, sustained engagement that transforms both individuals and the community?

Prism (Proxy Recognition And Inclusion Scoring Method), Destiny Raburnel, Crystal Tubbs, Md Abdullah Al Hafiz Khan Dec 2025

Prism (Proxy Recognition And Inclusion Scoring Method), Destiny Raburnel, Crystal Tubbs, Md Abdullah Al Hafiz Khan

Symposium of Student Scholars

AI-driven automated hiring tools are reshaping how companies find talent, but they often reproduce the hidden biases embedded in their training data. Our project, PRISM (Proxy Recognition and Inclusion Scoring Method), investigates how subtle demographic signals, specifically first names associated with gender and race, influence AI resume screening even when candidates have identical qualifications. We built a controlled dataset of resumes that are identical in every way except for the applicant's first name, with each resume using a racially neutral surname to isolate how first names alone affect scoring. We tested these resumes against job postings in technology, healthcare, and …

Talkin' 'Bout My Genderation: The Effect Of Gender Bias On Arbitral Representation, Amy E. Allen Dec 2025

Talkin' 'Bout My Genderation: The Effect Of Gender Bias On Arbitral Representation, Amy E. Allen

Washington Journal of Social & Environmental Justice

Gender bias is rampant in all industries, and the world of arbitration is no exception. For decades, members of the field of arbitration have debated the suitability of women as arbitrators. This led to a broader discussion regarding different styles of arbitration, how or if these styles are related to the gender of the arbitrator, and whether one arbitration style is more effective than others. This paper begins with a brief assessment of the history of arbitration, as well as a more focused overview of the history of women in arbitration. Next, the paper questions the reasons for gender disparity …

A 25-Year Progress Report Of Jupiter's Oval Ba, Richard W. Schmude Jr.

Georgia Journal of Science

Oval BA has now been present on Jupiter for 25 years. During this time, the east-west length of this feature, in visible wavelengths, has shown a gradual shrinkage at an average rate of 0.045 degrees/year. The average shrinkage rate of its east-west length in methane band images (wavelength of 890 nanometers) is 0.11 degrees/year. The north-south dimension of this oval has also shrunk. There is also a correlation between the latitude of Oval BA and its speed with respect to Jupiter's interior.

Interactive Photo Exploration Agent With Chained Language Model Calls, D Shin

Defensive Publications Series

Some photo library applications provide a conversational interface that enables users to retrieve photos that match their query. However, current interfaces are not multi-turn and are limited to retrieval and cannot automatically perform generation tasks. This disclosure describes an interactive, conversational interface for a digital photo library that allows users to explore their photos using natural language and receive generative, insightful answers. The exploration is multi-turn and multimodal, and is powered by a multimodal large language model (LLM). With user permission, the LLM is employed to interpret both the user's query (e.g., entered as free-form text) and the content of …

Generating Interactive, Llm-Driven Annotations For Inclusion In Digital Image Files, Ilia Labzovsky, Danny Karmon

Defensive Publications Series

While photographs capture visual information, they lack depth and interactivity. Contextual information, memories, stories, and related data associated with a photograph are external to the image file itself, and are scattered across applications, cloud services, or within the user’s mind. This disclosure describes techniques to enhance a digital image by automatically generating interactive annotations using a large language model (LLM) and incorporating the annotations into the image. Entities within a photo are identified and an LLM is instructed to generate an annotation object for the recognized entities. The annotation object is a self-contained package of data and instructions that specifies …

How Did Creative Expression Impact Advocacy And Accessibility For Female Reproductive Freedom During Second Wave Feminism In America?, Vivian Fitch Dec 2025

How Did Creative Expression Impact Advocacy And Accessibility For Female Reproductive Freedom During Second Wave Feminism In America?, Vivian Fitch

Saint John’s Preparatory School Student Work

This paper analyzes how poetry, visual art, and rhetoric have impacted accessibility for female reproductive freedom. The time period is 1960s through the 1990s; referred to as second wave feminism. The feminist art pieces examined are mediums such as poetry, visual art, and rhetoric. To find the implication of these art forms, I inspected each form of art and focused on literary devices, artistic technique, and Aristotle’s method for persuasive language. I conclude that art has a deep emotional, social, and legal effect on society. This art is accessible, conveys a clear point, and is rhetorically complex, which inspired change …
