Elementary Teachers’ Perceptions Of A District Tutoring Program Focused On Improving Minoritized Students’ Proficiency, Asia M. Michael

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The problem that was addressed through this study is that 75% of minoritized students in Grades 3–5 are not meeting proficiency goals in math at a suburban New Jersey school district (NJSD, a pseudonym), which prompted the implementation of a high-impact tutoring program for all students. Grounded in Dewey’s theory of action, the purpose of this mixed-methods study was to explore upper elementary teachers’ perceptions of the high-impact tutoring program and its influence on minoritized students’ math proficiency at NJSD. Data were collected from 22 upper elementary teachers through an anonymous survey, including both quantitative and qualitative prompts. The quantitative …

Implementing Dataops: A Scalable Framework For Modern Data Warehousing, Dmytro Valiaiev Dec 2025

Implementing Dataops: A Scalable Framework For Modern Data Warehousing, Dmytro Valiaiev

Theses and Dissertations

DataOps has been coined as a novel term that emerged as a synthesis of data management practices with software engineering concepts, such as DevOps and Agile, with the goal of improving data quality and governance in enterprises. The proliferation of scratch table use and transformation tools, such as dbt, has led to an exponential increase in the number of data models, which complicates standardization efforts and increases maintenance overhead. Although the market is saturated with various flavors of text-to-SQL engines that promote increased productivity and self-service use in organizations, there are limited tools available to optimize individual queries, enforce consistency, …

From The Margins To The Center: The Transformative Promise Of Philosophy For Children, Maughn Rollins Gregory, Megan Jane Laverty, Joe Oyler

Department of Educational Foundations Scholarship and Creative Works

What began as an innovative idea in the late 1960s—the recognition that even very young children are philosophically disposed—is no longer considered novel. While philosophy for children has transitioned from a fledgling initiative to a worldwide movement, it remains on the margins of education. In this article, we look back at key initiatives that have advanced its growth before looking ahead to what can move philosophy for children to the center of education. We consider the introduction and development of materials that invite children into philosophical spaces, the community of philosophical inquiry as a model of teachers' and children's philosophical …

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Chiral optical meta surfaces have emerged as a promising platform in coupling with molecular vibrational fingerprints through the enhanced light-matter interaction under different circularly polarized light illumination. This work reports the mode coupling between the mid-infrared phonon vibrations of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) molecules, and the thermally tunable chiral meta surfaces based on the phase-change material Ge₂Sb₂Te₅ (GST-225). Phase-change chiral meta surfaces with high circular dichroism (CD) in absorption and tunable plasmonic resonance in the frequency range of 48-56 THz are demonstrated, which covers the phonon vibrational frequency of PMMA molecules at 52 THz. The mode splitting features are observed in …

The Association Between Loneliness And Mental Health In Underserved Communities, Ameemah Khan, Yu-Ping Chang

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Background: Loneliness is a distressing emotional state that arises when an individual's actual social relationships do not align with their desired social connections. As loneliness becomes increasingly prevalent among adults, its adverse effects on mental health have grown more evident. Research links loneliness to poor sleep quality, suicidal ideation, severe depressive symptoms, and heightened stress. These effects are particularly pronounced in underserved communities, where social determinants of health disproportionately impact African Americans, contributing to poorer health outcomes. However, limited research explores the relationship between loneliness, sleep, and depression specifically within African American populations.

Purpose: This study aims to determine whether …

Kimmel Cancer Center Faculty Papers

Cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAP) is emerging as a clinically relevant therapy for dermatological conditions such as actinic keratosis, warts, and chronic wounds. However, these therapies lack strategies to monitor CAP delivery in situ and to ensure delivery of an effective CAP dose without unwanted toxicity. CAP acts as a therapeutic agent in these biomedical applications primarily (but not solely) through reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) generated at transiently high local concentrations. Here we demonstrate the use of bio-electrochemical sensors capable of real-time measurements of key CAP RONS: hydrogen peroxide and oxidation-reduction-potential (ORP). In in vitro scratch assays and …

I Can’T Believe It’S Not Social: Investigating The Relationship Between Loneliness, Parasocial Relationships, And Potential Moderators, Hannah I. Suozzi Dec 2025

I Can’T Believe It’S Not Social: Investigating The Relationship Between Loneliness, Parasocial Relationships, And Potential Moderators, Hannah I. Suozzi

Master's Theses

Increased loneliness trends coincide with increased media use. Media is turned to as a source of comfort and distraction from the real world. There is cause to believe that people also use media as a way to form parasocial relationships (PSRs), one-sided relationships audiences form with media figures (i.e., celebrities, influencers, and fictional characters). The connection between loneliness and PSR is thought to be moderated by social vulnerability, particularly the need to belong (NTB) and ethnicity. The medium from which PSRs originate lacks empirical study. To address the limitations, this study analyzed data collected from San Jose State University students …

Rural Maternal Health And Information Exchange Challenges In Western New York, Stephanie Lynn Durfee, Sharon Hewner Dec 2025

Rural Maternal Health And Information Exchange Challenges In Western New York, Stephanie Lynn Durfee, Sharon Hewner

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Background/Purpose: Our pregnancy healthcare work in Western New York (WNY) has revealed a pressing issue: high-risk patients are often forced to seek care outside their communities, leading to significant delays in addressing their medical and social needs. Our research, focusing on poor pregnancy outcomes in WNY rural areas, underscores the urgency. The challenges of limited resources and distance from healthcare facilities make it difficult for these individuals to receive adequate pregnancy care, resulting in gaps in health information due to fragmented care and disparate health information exchange databases.

Methods: To address this, we used the AHRQ CCSR to manually review …

The Patient Violence Framework, Laura Graham, Jennifer Bail Dec 2025

The Patient Violence Framework, Laura Graham, Jennifer Bail

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Patient Violence against nurses is a widespread problem resulting in both emotional and physical injury to the nurse. Emergency Department (ED) nurses are at an increased risk due to the volume and variety of the patients they serve, and the general chaotic environment of the ED; however, little research has been done examining the characteristics of patients who offend and the physical environment of the ED where the event happened. The aim of this three-article dissertation was to develop a more thorough understanding of the personal attributes (endogenous) of the individual patient and external (exogenous) factors of the ED setting …

Orbital Reliable Printed Circuit Boards, Thomas Maxwell Starnes, Keegan Blake Jordan, Ian Griffith, Grant Monroe Pesqueira, Vishal Navin Patel

Senior Design Project For Engineers

Deep Interstellar Solutions is proposing a device to produce custom, serviceable printed circuit boards (PCBs) in low Earth orbit. This technology uses blank PCBs that are laser-etched and prepared for electrical components, then stored in the module. This method of PCB production allows for rapid repairs or prototyping without the need for subsequent resupply missions. By implementing this technique, future missions will achieve greater autonomy, sustainability, and resource efficiency. The goal of this development is to pioneer the creation of custom circuitry for use in deep-space missions where resupply is neither cost-effective nor timely.

The Effectiveness Of Telemedicine As A Pivotal Tool In Providing Accessible Medical Care, Peyton Wilt

Honors Theses

Telemedicine has emerged as one of the most transformative innovations in modern healthcare, offering new opportunities to bridge long-standing gaps in access, quality, and continuity of care. Rural and underserved communities in the United States face persistent barriers to healthcare, including provider shortages, geographic isolation, limited access to specialty services, transportation challenges, and socioeconomic disparities. These structural barriers often delay diagnosis, disrupt chronic disease management, and worsen overall health outcomes. Telemedicine provides a mechanism to address many of these obstacles by enabling remote consultations, real-time monitoring, follow-up appointments, and access to specialty providers through digital platforms.

This thesis examines the …
