Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a rapidly increasing prevalence, posing a significant public health challenge worldwide and in Saudi Arabia. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among patients with T2DM, necessitating early detection and intervention to prevent disease progression. Elevated natriuretic peptide levels, particularly N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), are promising biomarkers for CVD risk stratification in individuals with T2DM. However, the integration of these biomarkers in clinical management remains limited.

Methods: Published evidence and existing guidelines/consensuses related to the use of NT-proBNP for CVD risk stratification in T2DM patients were …

First Responder Resiliency With Line Of Duty Critical Incident Exposure, Jennifer Miller Dec 2025

First Responder Resiliency With Line Of Duty Critical Incident Exposure, Jennifer Miller

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

First responders' mental health resiliency and distress tolerance following crises and adverse, sporadic, and consistent exposure to critical incidents, such as line-of-duty death, mass casualty incidents, and calls involving children, continues to be a public health challenge in the United States. In this phenomenological study, the role of critical incidents in the overall mental and physical health resiliency of first responders was explored. Resilience theory served as the theoretical perspective for this study. The central research question for this study was to investigate the lived experiences of first responders who have been exposed to critical incidents in the line of …

Staff Education For Effective Patient Handoff, Kaylonn Amundson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education project was initiated to address the lack of standardized handoff procedures which was found to have contributed to an adverse outcome for a hospitalized patient. The purpose of this project was to address the question: Will an interactive education program on a standardized handoff tool increase nursing staffs’ knowledge and self-confidence regarding its use? The project involved educating 20 inpatient nurses and care staff about the structure of the SIGNOUT? handoff tool using a PowerPoint presentation with a follow-up practice simulation. Handoff sheets and visuals were distributed to aid in the learning process. Pre- and post-education surveys …

Effective Leadership Strategies For Aligning Vision And Mission To Drive Sustainability, Nyree Price Dec 2025

Effective Leadership Strategies For Aligning Vision And Mission To Drive Sustainability, Nyree Price

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Organizational leaders often struggle when ambitious innovation outpaces the systems, structures, and leadership practices needed to support consistent operational performance. When leaders fail to implement effective resolution strategies to align the organizational vision and mission with operational effectiveness, it impacts long-term operational effectiveness, productivity, and long-term sustainability. This qualitative single case study was an exploration of the strategies used by some business leaders in a mid-sized, for-profit telecommunications firm in the Midwest United States. The study applied the Baldrige Excellence Framework as the conceptual lens. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with executive leaders and through an analysis of internal …

A Critical Annotated Bibliography Of Obscure Scholarship On John Kennedy Toole And A Confederacy Of Dunces. Version 2.0, H. Vernon Leighton

Library Faculty Works

The purpose of this bibliography is to summarize texts that might be difficult for the average scholar to obtain and to evaluate the quality of those obscure texts. Most of these are Master’s theses or Ph.D. dissertations that have at least some portion devoted to a discussion of John Kennedy Toole or the novel A Confederacy of Dunces. Most of the entries were written before 2014, though some were updated in 2025.

Fine-Tuning Llama2 For Summarizing Discharge Notes: Evaluating The Role Of Highlighted Information, Mahshad Koohi Habibi Dehkordi, Yehoshua Perl, Fadi P. Deek, Hao Liu

School of Computing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This study investigates whether incorporating highlighted information in discharge notes improves the quality of the summaries generated by Large Language Models (LLMs). Specifically, it evaluates the effect of using highlighted versus unhighlighted inputs for fine-tuning LLaMA2-13B model for summarization tasks. We fine-tuned LlaMA2-13B in two variants using MIMIC-IV-Ext-BHC dataset: one variant fine-tuned with the highlighted discharge notes (H-LLaMA), and the other on the same set of notes without highlighting (U-LLaMA). Highlighting was performed automatically using a Cardiology Interface Terminology (CIT) presented in our previous work. H-LLaMA and U-LLaMA were evaluated on a randomly selected test set of 100 discharge notes …

Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin Dec 2025

Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Workforce retention among mental health professionals has been a central focus of scholars as behavioral health systems continue to face chronic staffing instability (Hallett et al., 2024). Researchers have demonstrated that burnout, limited organizational support, and resource misalignment significantly influence turnover in these settings (Maslach & Leiter, 2016; Pulman & Fenge, 2024). However, researchers have not yet established how mental health professionals within a single publicly funded, state-operated behavioral health organization interpret the organizational and cultural factors that influence their decision to remain employed. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore how mental health professionals in a …

Evolutions In European Family Law: Towards A Common Core?, Frédérique Ferrand Dec 2025

Evolutions In European Family Law: Towards A Common Core?, Frédérique Ferrand

Journal of Civil Law Studies

This paper examines developments in European family law and considers whether a common core is gradually emerging. The first part is devoted to the European Union. Under the Treaties, substantive law on family matters, including the legal status of persons, falls within the competence of Member States. However, EU regulations govern jurisdiction and the recognition of court decisions and authentic instruments in several areas directly relevant for families and children in cross-border situations. Although these regulations do not directly deal with substantive family law, they can provide indirectly for a certain harmonization via uniform jurisdiction and recognition rules as well …
