Datamut: Deterministic Algorithms For Time-Delay Attack Detection In Multi-Hop Uav Networks, Keiwan Soltani, Federico Corò, Punyasha Chatterjee, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, have gained popularity in various fields such as agriculture, emergency response, and search and rescue operations. UAV networks are susceptible to potential security threats, such as wormhole attacks, jamming, spoofing, and false data injection. Time-Delay Attack (TDA) is a unique attack in which malicious UAVs intentionally delay packet forwarding, posing significant threats, especially in time-sensitive applications. It is challenging to distinguish malicious delay from benign network delay due to the dynamic nature of UAV networks, intermittent wireless connectivity, or the Store-Carry-Forward (SCF) mechanism during multi-hop communication. Some existing works propose machine learning-based …

Ulama And Vision 2030: Saudi Arabia Government's Strategies To Navigate A Successful Economic Reform, Nashiha Ulya, Hamdan Basyar

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 seeks to diversify its oil-dependent economy, but scepticism persists due to past reform failures, particularly in fiscal policy and labour markets. Ulama, as key figures in the Saudi "social contract," play a vital role in legitimising government policies, especially on social and religious matters. However, reforms promoting private sector growth and social liberalisation have raised concerns among conservative ulama over potential threats to Islamic values. To address this, the government under Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) employs a strategy of separating economic and religious narratives while using a "carrot and stick" approach to manage ulama opposition. This …

Interactions among tumor, immune, and vascular niches play major roles in glioblastoma (GBM) malignancy and treatment responses. The composition and heterogeneity of extracellular core matrix proteins (CMPs) that mediate such interactions are not well understood. Here, we present an analysis of the clinical relevance of CMP expression in GBM at bulk, single-cell, and spatial anatomical resolution. We show that CMP enrichment is associated with worse patient survival, specific driver oncogenic alterations, mesenchymal state, pro-tumor immune infiltration, and immune checkpoint expression. Matrisome expression is enriched in vascular and leading edge/infiltrative niches that are known to harbor glioma stem cells. Finally, we …

Statistics Of Glinting Clouds Observed By Dscovr And Geostationary Satellites, Tamás Várnai, Alexander Marshak, Alexander Kostinski

Michigan Tech Publications

This study examines how frequently the specular reflection of sunlight—that is, sun glint—reveals the presence of ice crystals that maintain a steady horizontal orientation. The study analyzes data from the Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) onboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) spacecraft and from collocated images taken by geostationary satellites. The analysis of spatio-temporal variations in glint frequency over vegetated land surfaces reveals that (a) year-to-year variations are modest with no clear trends; (b) glints typically occur 7%–8% more frequently than previously estimated; (c) glints are most frequently observed during the May-August period, and over Asia. The results also …

Emergent Bias And Fairness In Multi-Agent Decision Systems, Maeve Una Madigan, Stuart Burrell, Kamalaruban Parameswaran, Glenn Moynihan, David Sutton

Defensive Publications Series

The present subject matter relates to a systematic study of emergent bias and fairness dynamics in multi-agent LLMdecision making. In particular, the present disclosure compares single-agent performance with memory-based and collective refinement multi-agent discussion paradigms across a suite of group fairness metrics on tabular datasets with sensitive attributes. Across settings, fairness changes from multi-agent collaboration relative to single-agent baselines are typically concentrated around small negative values or near zero, indicating that bias is most often only marginally reduced or remains unchanged, while a thin but long positive tail shows rare cases where multi-agent interaction can substantially worsen bias. These findings …

Wei Xiqin’S Evolutionary Plan For Modern China, Nianhong Qiu

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

This study examines the thinking, practices, and significance of Wei Xiqin (1882- 1952). Born in Germany and educated in various European countries, Wei was a musician and educator who played an active role in the educational reform of the Republic of China. Wei was equipped with modern European thoughts but held deep reverence for Confucianism and other traditional Chinese classics. Examining this contentious figure in the wake of “Chinese Evolutionism” trend, this study investigates the differences between Wei’s evolution theory and the dominant evolution theory during early 20th-century China. Wei’s evolutionism, which I call a type of “Cyclic Evolution,” implies …

Multi-Device Synchronization For A Distributed Antenna Array In Non-Terrestrial Network Communication, Kasra Ghaemi, Ali Molaei, Gregory Black Jan 2026

Multi-Device Synchronization For A Distributed Antenna Array In Non-Terrestrial Network Communication, Kasra Ghaemi, Ali Molaei, Gregory Black

Defensive Publications Series

Mobile communication with non-terrestrial networks can be impacted by signal degradation and link budget constraints. These impacts may result from factors including path loss over satellite distances and the limited transmit power of a mobile device. To address these impacts, multiple, physically distinct user devices can be coordinated to function as a distributed antenna array. A primary computing device, for example, a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, can orchestrate the operation of one or more secondary devices, such as a smartwatch, wearable device, or another smartphone. This orchestration can involve frequency and phase synchronization between the devices and spatial optimization of …

Pciafl: Personalized And Class Imbalance-Aware Federated Learning For Driver Behavior Classification, Osho Osho, Shubh Garg, Suchetana Chakraborty, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Automated understanding of driver behavior from vehicular kinematics is vital for safety-aware intelligent transportation systems. However, centralized cloud processing suffers from latency, scalability, and privacy issues. Federated Learning (FL) provides a decentralized alternative but faces two major challenges: (i) non-IID client data due to heterogeneous driving styles and sensors, and (ii) severe class imbalance, as risky behaviors are inherently rare. In this work, we propose a personalized FL framework that uses a shared CNN-LSTM backbone with client-adaptive classifiers and incorporates a cost-sensitive loss to address behavior skew. Evaluated on the UAH-DriveSet dataset, our method achieves 92.60% accuracy and 91.68% macro-F1, …
