The Lawyer’S Swan Lake: Generative Ai, Legal Epistemology, And The Nondelegable Duty To Think, Angie Zinzilieta Mar 2026

The Lawyer’S Swan Lake: Generative Ai, Legal Epistemology, And The Nondelegable Duty To Think, Angie Zinzilieta

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

Generative artificial intelligence (“GAI”) has entered law wearing the costume of competence: fluent, confident, and fast. But legal practice is not a memory sport despite the bar exam. Lawyers are paid to create, test, and refine ideas (arguments, narratives, and theories of liability) inside an adversarial system that punishes error, rewards precision, and demands accountability. This article argues that the central risk of GAI in legal work is not merely “hallucinations” or confidentiality breaches; it is epistemic atrophy, an outsourcing of the intellectual labor by which lawyers understand where law comes from, how it changes, and why it applies. Using …

Behind The Black Box: Employer Accountability For Algorithmic Hiring Bias, Nicole Capp

The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review

AI hiring tools are now ubiquitous in employment, promising efficiency, cost savings, and reduced human bias. Yet these systems often operate as “black boxes,” replicating or amplifying existing biases and raising significant legal concerns under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Even without discriminatory intent, AI trained on historical hiring data can produce disparate impacts, exposing employers to liability for outcomes they cannot fully understand or explain. Plaintiffs face steep challenges in litigating such claims, particularly in identifying specific practices, demonstrating causation, and proposing feasible alternatives. This article examines how AI perpetuates discrimination in hiring, analyzes the …

Text Messages To Improve Young Child Diets: Results From A Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial In Kanchanpur, Nepal, Kenda Cunningham, Sidney Cech, Aman Sen Gupta, Pooja Pandey Rana, Debbie Humphries, Edward A. Frongillo Jr. Ph.D.

Faculty Publications

The objective of this study was to test whether adding a text message campaign about the importance of eating eggs and other nutrition-related behaviours to an on-going package of large-scale, diverse social and behaviour change interventions would improve four types of nutrition-related knowledge and behaviour outcomes: child diets (egg consumption as the primary outcome), maternal diets, maternal nutrition knowledge, and maternal participation in additional interventions. The cluster-randomized controlled trial involved a repeat cross-sectional design, recruiting families with children 12–23 months of age at baseline and endline in one plains district of Nepal. Throughout the 1000-day period, 51 text messages were …

Digital Print Ordering System For Ugs, Han Nguyen Mar 2026

Digital Print Ordering System For Ugs, Han Nguyen

Graphic Communication

This project redesigns the UGS digital storefront to make ordering custom prints clearer and less confusing for students. Research showed that many delays happen because users submit incorrect files, such as wrong formats, low-resolution images, or missing fonts. To address this, I created an interactive prototype that guides users step-by-step through the ordering process and includes a built-in file checklist with simple export instructions. Instead of relying on a separate PDF guide, the new system supports users directly within the workflow, helping reduce errors and making the process smoother for both customers and UGS staffs.

Same, But Better: Modernizing A Professional Soccer Team’S Logo, Jessica A. Halladay Mar 2026

Same, But Better: Modernizing A Professional Soccer Team’S Logo, Jessica A. Halladay

Graphic Communication

Valencia CF is a historic soccer club with a highly recognizable crest, and this project focuses on modernizing that identity while preserving its core elements. Rather than creating a full rebrand, the project follows an identity evolution approach, refining the crest to improve clarity and adaptability across digital and physical applications. Guided by research in brand identity, social identity, and visual perception, the redesign focuses on four key elements: the bat, crest shape, typography, and soccer ball. Each component was simplified through iterative sketching and critique-based refinement to improve readability and consistency while maintaining recognizability. The final design demonstrates how …

Did A.T. Still, Do, Have An Md Degree?, David B. Fuller

PCOM Scholarly Works

A.T. Still, DO (1828–1917), founder of osteopathic medicine, was a licensed physician practicing in late 19th- and early 20th-century America. Although many assume he held an MD degree, the reality is more complex. Examining whether Dr. Still earned an MD degree provides important insight into the origins of osteopathic medicine and the profession that followed.

New Teacher Attrition Rate In Relation To Lack Of Administrative Support, Amy Avina Mar 2026

New Teacher Attrition Rate In Relation To Lack Of Administrative Support, Amy Avina

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine new teacher attrition in relation to perceived administrative support. Teacher attrition remains a persistent challenge in U.S. public education, particularly among novice teachers within their first 5 years of service. High turnover rates negatively affect school stability, instructional continuity, and student achievement, underscoring the need to better understand factors influencing teachers’ decisions to remain in or leave the profession. The problem addressed in this study was the limited understanding of how novice teachers perceive administrative support and how these perceptions influence their willingness to stay in the teaching profession. The researcher …

In The Miery Swamp: Metacomet And Memory, Allison Rose, Marianne Holdzkom Mar 2026

In The Miery Swamp: Metacomet And Memory, Allison Rose, Marianne Holdzkom

The Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research

Abstract for “In the Miery Swamp: Metacomet and Memory”, written by Allison Rose and sponsored by Dr. Marianne Holdzkom

Memorials have become omnipresent ties to our communal past. Plaques and dedications materialize in our town squares. Statues loom over our city parks. Monuments tower over our cemeteries. A large issue facing public historians today is the disconnect between the original intent of public memorials and the collective representation of diverse histories. “In the Miery Swamp: Metacomet and Memory” addresses how interactions with the public alter and transform four public memorials. Through a chronological and historical analysis of four monuments to …

Free Speech Trapped In Amber: The Rise Of The 'History And Tradition' Test, From Unregulated Guns To Highly Regulated Speech, Matthew D. Bunker, Emily Erickson Mar 2026

Free Speech Trapped In Amber: The Rise Of The 'History And Tradition' Test, From Unregulated Guns To Highly Regulated Speech, Matthew D. Bunker, Emily Erickson

William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal

An insidious virus appears poised to invade First Amendment free speech doctrine. “History and tradition,” a deeply flawed variant of originalism, threatens to transform speech law from a rational enterprise, employing tiers of scrutiny to evaluate potential infringements on speech, to a random scavenger hunt through the distant past that could upend numerous vital First Amendment principles.

Traditionalism’s ascendence to the forefront of history-centric constitutional interpretation was heralded in three dramatic cases decided at the end of the U.S. Supreme Court’s October 2021 term. New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen elicited particular concern among First Amendment scholars, …

Mapping Child Care And Early Education Capacity To Needs In Massachusetts, Alan Clayton-Matthews, Christa M. Kelleher, Randy Albelda, Anne Douglass, Laurie Nsiah-Jefferson Mar 2026

Mapping Child Care And Early Education Capacity To Needs In Massachusetts, Alan Clayton-Matthews, Christa M. Kelleher, Randy Albelda, Anne Douglass, Laurie Nsiah-Jefferson

Publications from the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy

Massachusetts has made notable strides in expanding access to affordable, quality, licensed child care and early education in recent years. Ongoing robust state investment in the Commonwealth Cares for Children Grant Program, activities of the Healey-Driscoll Inter Agency Early Education and Child Care Task Force, and increased income eligibility for child care financial assistance to families with moderate incomes, among other initiatives, all help address persistent barriers to quality education and care at a price families can afford.

Yet the supply of licensed child care for infants, toddlers, and preschool children remains a formidable challenge to meeting the child care …

Coyotes (Canis latrans) expanded across eastern North America in the last century and are ecological generalists capable of thriving across diverse habitats. Broad genetic surveillance has reported little spatial genetic patterning for this highly dispersive species. Here, we explore the genome-wide signatures of spatial patterns found in a 10-year study of 1199 coyotes from northeastern United States, with a temporal analysis of Pennsylvania coyotes. Despite their broad dispersal capability, we detected subtle but significant population structure, with two genetic clusters that have a weak clinal transition zone. This partitioning aligned qualitatively with patterns of human population density and activity. We …

Adaptation And Initial Validation Of The U.S. Census Multidimensional Deprivation Index For Resettled Afghans, Mitra Naseh, Saria Bechara, Yingying Zeng, Jihye Lee, Miriam Potocky

Forced Migration Initiative

This working paper describes the adaptation, pilot testing, and initial validation of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Multidimensional Deprivation Index (MDI) for use among resettled Afghan refugees. The adaptation process included a scoping review, a qualitative descriptive study, and consultation with a community advisory board. The adapted index was subsequently pilot tested among 336 resettled Afghan households in the United States. Results indicate high rates of deprivation across all seven domains of the adapted MDI. Notably, employment and career mobility domain showed limited association with other domains, confirming the emerging evidence that employment alone no longer could be an indicator of …

Ƒ(Cell): Software For Reproducible Analysis Of Optoretinograms, Robert F. Cooper, Mina Gaffney, Brea D. Brennan, Niko Rios

Biomedical Engineering Faculty Research and Publications

Purpose: There has been a marked increase in use of a noninvasive functional imaging technique called optoretinography (ORG). As more groups use ORGs, it is crucial to have a consistent methodology, and understand what analysis parameters influence repeatability. In this work, we present an open-source software library called ƒ(Cell) designed to facilitate reproducible and repeatable analyses of ORG data.

Methods: We designed ƒ(Cell) as a Python software library that can co-register and analyze ORG datasets, while also enabling process auditing. To validate the software, we used our previously obtained normative optoretinography datasets as well as datasets from six …

Awakening To Languages: Preparing A Peaceful Multilingual World, Michel Candelier, Jean François De Pietro Mar 2026

Awakening To Languages: Preparing A Peaceful Multilingual World, Michel Candelier, Jean François De Pietro

Dimensions

Awakening to Languages (AtL) is a teaching approach that proposes multilingual activities and accompanies language teaching to foster the learners’ awareness of and openness to multilingualism, while increasing their reflexive metalinguistic abilities. In this article, we describe ATL as a component of Didactics of Plurilingualism (DP) and its main aims and characteristics which will be illustrated through multiple examples of activities and teaching materials. We further discuss the reported effects of AtL on learners, teachers, and parents, followed by current trends in integrating AtL in schools. We then turn to a comparison of core concepts of AtL and DP to …
