Student Research Symposium (SRS)

This project involves the ongoing research and authorship of individual biographies for Royal Air Force cadets who died while training in the United States during World War II, specifically those associated with No. 5 British Flying Training School (5BFTS) at Riddle Field, Clewiston, Florida. These cadets, many of whom were in their late teens or early twenties, lost their lives far from home—some in aircraft accidents, others from illness—before they had the chance to serve in active combat. The goal of this work is to honor their memory through accurate, respectful, and human-centered biographies, each grounded in verified historical sources …

Privacy Preserving Drone Authentication Framework With Blockchain, Luke Mauro, Kanchon Gharami Apr 2026

Privacy Preserving Drone Authentication Framework With Blockchain, Luke Mauro, Kanchon Gharami

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

Autonomous drones have many applications including reconnaissance, surveillance, delivery, agriculture, and cinematography. However, security and privacy remain critical challenges due to vulnerabilities in wireless communication and the need to ensure airspace compliance as drones traverse multiple flight zones. While necessary for safety, these authentication techniques can compromise privacy or suffer from single points of failure. This paper proposes a decentralized, privacy-preserving authentication system using blockchain technology to authenticate drones across multiple flight zones while preserving the anonymity of the drone and its flight path. The system assigns drones unique PseudoIDs for each flight zone, which are stored and verified on …

Advancements In Spacecraft Trajectory Generation Through Matrix Decomposition Techniques, David Stoev Apr 2026

Advancements In Spacecraft Trajectory Generation Through Matrix Decomposition Techniques, David Stoev

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

The Circular Restricted Three-Body Problem (CR3BP) is renowned for its intricate and chaotic dynamics, leaving it without a closed-form solution. In this poster, we introduce an innovative approach to determine spacecraft trajectories within the CR3BP framework using matrix factorization techniques. We formulate a matrix equation where the right-hand side vector is constructed from the spacecraft's position and velocity data, while the coefficient matrix is derived from the spacecraft's temporal data. Subsequently, we apply several matrix decomposition techniques, including modified Gram-Schmidt, the Householder technique, and Givens Rotation, to analyze the coefficient matrix and derive the spacecraft trajectories. Finally, we evaluate the …

Fatherhood Redefined: How Paternity Leave Shapes Relationships, Olivia Flores Apr 2026

Fatherhood Redefined: How Paternity Leave Shapes Relationships, Olivia Flores

Family Perspectives

Paternity leave remains limited in the United States, with relatively few fathers granted paid time off following the birth of a child. This literature review examines how paternity leave shapes marital relationships by influencing parental mental health and couple communication during the transition to parenthood. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, the paper synthesizes evidence indicating that fathers’ use of paternity leave is associated with higher marital satisfaction and greater relationship stability. These benefits are largely mediated by improvements in both maternal and paternal mental health, as paternity leave reduces role overload, stress, and symptoms of anxiety and depression for both partners. …

The Social Validity Of The Zones Of Regulation, Tracy Grass Apr 2026

The Social Validity Of The Zones Of Regulation, Tracy Grass

Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to examine teachers’ perceptions of the social validity of the Zones of Regulation, specifically in terms of the constructs of acceptability, feasibility, and perceived effectiveness, in elementary school classrooms. Despite the popularity of this social-emotional learning (SEL) program, limited research has explored its social validity. To address this gap, a mixed-methods research design was used to gain a comprehensive understanding of teacher perceptions and experiences.

A total of 43 elementary teachers completed the Usage Rating Profile—Intervention Revised (URP-IR), and seven teachers participated in semi-structured interviews. Abductive thematic analysis was used to integrate data and …

Trademark’S Parody Problem, Christine Haight Farley Apr 2026

Trademark’S Parody Problem, Christine Haight Farley

Research Reports & White Papers

This Article challenges the Supreme Court's recent assurance that trademark parody is adequately protected under ordinary infringement doctrine without the need for special speech safeguards. In Jack Daniel's Properties, Inc. v. VIP Products LLC, the Court curtailed the principal First Amendment defense for expressive trademark uses while predicting that parodies would nonetheless prevail under the likelihood of confusion test. This Article shows why that prediction is mistaken. Drawing on recent case law and trademark doctrine, it identifies four structural vulnerabilities that now confront parody: the expansion of "trademark use" as a gatekeeping device that excludes parodists from speech-protective …

The Impact Of Traffic On Packet Schedulers Within A Simulated Environment, Landon Mohr Apr 2026

The Impact Of Traffic On Packet Schedulers Within A Simulated Environment, Landon Mohr

Honors

Packet scheduling is a well-studied topic in networking. It determines the order in which packets leave a congested output link and therefore affects delay, jitter, throughput, and packet loss. Prior research has shown that different schedulers offer different tradeoffs, but fewer studies have examined how scheduler performance changes under defined mixed-traffic workloads. The experiment uses NS-3 to simulate a congested network with multiple traffic types, including VoIP, gaming, HTTP, streaming, and bulk transfer, and compares FIFO, Strict Priority Queuing, and FQCoDel under varying traffic profiles and queue sizes. The results show that scheduler choice affects timing-sensitive traffic much more strongly …

Why Israel Failed To Anticipate The October 7 Attack: A Postmortem Analysis, Emily Helgeson

Honors

This project conducts an autopsy of Israel’s failure to anticipate Hamas’s surprise attack on October 7, 2023. Existing scholarship identifies multiple contributing factors for this intelligence failure, including flawed strategic assumptions (conceptzia), political dysfunction, organizational sexism, and overreliance on surveillance technology. While all these factors may have contributed to the failure, most studies either examine the causal impact of a single factor in isolation or treat multiple factors together as equally impactful. As a result, the literature has yet to identify the primary driver of the October 7 failure. To address this gap, this study adopts a postmortem approach, borrowed …

Is It Altruism Or Codependency? A Dive Into Our Relationships With Others, Livia Dietrich

Psychology Student Publications

Codependency is characterized by the tendency to put others’ needs ahead of your own. It can affect anyone; but is typically most common in mothers. This paper explores many reasons someone may fall into these patterns, such as low self-esteem or an abusive partner. Trends of relationships in one’s past, like their relationship with their parents, could also affect the likelihood of codependent tendencies. These examinations can help to identify what codependency looks like in order to repair relationships moving forward
